What? WHAT?! Surfin' the Highway coming back in print?!!
Posted by emily June 27, 2007
Surely I'm joking.

Oh, no, we don't joke about things like this.

Sam & Max are turning 20 this year (I know, they don't look a day over 19...) and to celebrate, Steve Purcell and Telltale are bringing back the complete Sam & Max collection, Surfin' the Highway, for your extreme reading pleasure. It'll be printed later this year and available in Telltale's very own store.

In addition to the same ooey, gooey goodness of the original, the new edition of Surfin' the Highway will feature some brand spanking new content (mostly stuff that's come out in the 10+ years since the book was originally published) and a new cover. Plus you won't have to trade an arm, a leg, and your first born child to get your hands on it. Good stuff.

Check out the official press release, and/or send us an email to request a notification when the book shows up in the store.

Comment by purple_monkfish June 27, 2007, 3:22 pm
Due to me in the UK, i have NEVER read any of the comic's of Sam and max, time to get this print!
Comment by Trixie June 27, 2007, 3:32 pm
As much as new Sam & Max content is like gold dust, I can't help but think adding new content and rejigging the cover is tantamount to defilation.

Can they not just re-release Surfin' the Highway (just to kick the eBayers in the balls) and gather the new content into a further (smaller?) compilation.
Comment by Optimaximal June 27, 2007, 3:34 pm
Holy crap. I actually bought the original Surfin' the Highway, lent it to a friend in college and never saw it again because we moved apart. I actually periodically check up on him and ask if he's taking good care of it. Now I don't have to bug him anymore.
Comment by Ben June 27, 2007, 3:48 pm
Surfin the highway (waaay to go), Season 1 DVD, Season 1 soundtrack and the little case file... And Ode to the stuff in the sink! Time to get my BIG wallet! :D Telltale... Steve.... everybody... I LOVE you!

Comment by Hero1 June 27, 2007, 5:27 pm
AHA! I knew you guys/girls would reprint it! :D I will definately buy a copy! : )
Comment by AdamG June 27, 2007, 5:44 pm
Luckily I had the chance to buy the ORIGINAL about 2 years ago for 3.75 EUR (~ 5 USD), so I still own the best parts of my body ;)
Sorry Telltale.
Comment by Florian.Lieb June 28, 2007, 1:31 am
You made my day. Thanks Telltale :)
Comment by Marzhin June 28, 2007, 3:51 am
After nearly fainting at the price that Surfin' the Highway was going for on Ebay, a reprint is great news, especially coupled with the promise of new content. Cheers, Telltale! Oh, and buemba...

NINTENDO SIXTY FOOOOOUR! Sorry, couldn't resist.
Comment by Narwaffle June 28, 2007, 4:14 am
Now I don't have to spend $100+, just to get a copy of the comic book. I wonder when the release date will be...
Comment by YoshiAngemon June 28, 2007, 4:32 am
Through some odd ocurance in the stars, I had actually managed to get the original in my comic shop for the cover price. (Of course, this was about 10 years ago). (and I would NEVER part with it, besides lending it out to friends, no matter how inflated the prices got on ebay) And I'll be getting this one too, for I be lovings the idea of new content, where it shall sit right next to its older brother. ^_^

A shout of "w000t!" just echoed off the hillsides, greatly startling passers-by.

My Visa tensely awaits the chance to purchase this epic literature. This is right up there with the first publication of the King James Bible, the discovering of the Rosetta Stone, the release of The Origin of Species, and any other world-changing literary event I can probably think of.
Comment by Uberman5000 June 28, 2007, 7:56 am
So, should I sell my old beat-up copy on eBay for 200 bones before it's too late and pick this up later?
Comment by Treymoney June 28, 2007, 8:21 am
hey good timing! i was just gonna figure out a way to blackmail steve into giving it back into print :D
Comment by t800 June 28, 2007, 8:40 am

Comment by t800 June 28, 2007, 8:41 am
Wow. I don't think I've been this happy since Nov. 19.
Even my usually unbreakable wall of cynicism has melted right away.
SAM & MAX FTW.
Comment by TrogLlama June 28, 2007, 9:51 am
YEAH!!!!! I'm getting one of this the minute it's available!!
Comment by Fictorus June 28, 2007, 10:01 am
Sorry, I forgot to ask... This won't be a limited edition, right?
Comment by Fictorus June 28, 2007, 10:08 am
Oh, I'm going to be very happy with this. When I first tried to get this, it was going for £260 on eBay. I hope it's going to be at a reasonable price I can afford as a not-too-well-off student .
Comment by Sabre June 28, 2007, 10:44 am
Oh. My. God. First the bonus content, then the case file goodies, and now this? Telltale, you are truly benevolent overlords.
Comment by Bas June 28, 2007, 12:24 pm
WOOOOOoooooOoOoOooooOOOOoooO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment by tobar June 28, 2007, 2:28 pm
Yes! I just hope I don't get "backordered" like I did for the DVD! I swear, that thing went FAST.
Comment by scollege June 28, 2007, 6:07 pm
The DVD isn't backordered,it's a preorder. It will be released for the first time ever in late July.
Comment by tabacco June 28, 2007, 7:24 pm
Nice! Surfin' the Highway is one of the very few "comic book"-y books I have both read and cannot wait to read again.
Comment by Niscient June 28, 2007, 8:17 pm
Excellent news!! Awesomenesss!! Can't wait!!!!!!!!!
Comment by MRBICKLE June 29, 2007, 7:12 am
This is wonderful news! I've always had to borrow "Surfing the Highway" from friends but never had it for my own. Now I'll be able to bask in the greatness of the Freelance Police without feeling guilty in having to return it. Praise be to Telltale!
Comment by Teilan June 29, 2007, 12:51 pm
Oh my god. I gave my copy to a friend long ago, then managed to find a battered copy on Ebay for somewhere in the $50 region.

I'm going to buy like 5 copies as gifts. This is awesome.

Now just make your god-damned video games run on Macs, and you can have even MORE of my money, you single-platformed sons of bitches!
Comment by pts July 1, 2007, 2:00 pm
Son of a bitch. And there was me feeling so smug for finding a copy for $15NZ a few years back. Couldn't you have warned me, so I could've sold it on Ebay before?
Comment by Pvt._Public July 2, 2007, 1:16 am
I really hope you guys print an awful lot of these. Don't underestimate the number of books that will sell.
There will be lots of jerks buying multiple copies just because they want to try and make a profit off of them.
Please leave room for the rest of us
Comment by xChri5x July 3, 2007, 10:49 pm
We're only printing one, and I think Marco got dibs. Sorry :(
Comment by Jake July 4, 2007, 9:25 pm
Amazon is selling it (the old one) for $ 99 ... up to $ 349.69!
Amazing, if you look at the backside of the book: "$12.95"!

Comment by barchetta July 6, 2007, 2:18 am
Awesome!

Though I feel really bad for those people with the copies that were worth $100-$300. But that's the market at work - sell it while it's hot before the stock crashes.
Comment by Aerothorn July 7, 2007, 8:27 pm
I WANT TO SEE MORE......
Comment by babyboy99p July 8, 2007, 12:11 pm
Is this going to have the comics that appeared in Fox Kids magazine? Those are the only released comics that I don't have in print right now.
Comment by akajackfrost July 8, 2007, 4:24 pm
Hopefully the cover is the most amazing thing in the world. After all.... Surfin' the Highway...is.....the original Sam..............and Max! *whooossssh*
Comment by xChri5x July 8, 2007, 7:46 pm
xChri5x brings up what could be a valid point. Maybe there could be a limit for how many of them can be bought per address for the first little while? 2 or 3 would be a good limit.
Comment by Esn July 12, 2007, 11:20 am
There's no need to limit them, guys. It'll be fine :)
Comment by tabacco July 12, 2007, 1:43 pm
Hope there's something extra for those of us that already have it... bring back the comics!!!
Comment by RevDEAD July 12, 2007, 2:57 pm
the new edition of Surfin' the Highway will feature some brand spanking new content
Comment by tabacco July 12, 2007, 3:43 pm
Will it have the webcomic? (sorry if it's been asked/answered)

Also, any plans for a hardcover edition?
Comment by xChri5x July 13, 2007, 3:29 am
Stop posting you own shi... dont buy this crap..... doesnt work... I paid and got no copy!
Comment by Dude21 July 13, 2007, 1:27 pm
What the hell are you talking about
Comment by xChri5x July 13, 2007, 4:01 pm
It won't have the webcomic, but it will have quite a lot of new stuff.
Comment by Jake July 14, 2007, 10:08 am
I actually have one of the very original signed printings. Part of me wants to sell it for however you spell that Cajun word that's pronounced "boo-koo" bucks and then buy the cheaper copy later that has even more comics in it, but I don't know. Hmm, what would Sam & Max do?

Now that I think about it, off to eBay it is!
Comment by questionthemajority July 16, 2007, 5:57 pm
I could never sell my original copy..even with the re-print.. I hope they print a lot..because as someone said earlier I'll be getting a few copies as gifts for people
Comment by Hero1 August 5, 2007, 6:39 am
Aw, still no updates? The air is getting thick with anticipation here.
