Halloween contest winners revealed
Posted by emily November 6, 2007
As always, there was much deliberation and in-fighting, but in the end we came to a decision. And as always, that decision involved expanding our original plan to award three winners to five, because let's face it, when it comes to entries this good, why limit them to three? Life's too short.

So with that disclaimer out of the way, I present to you the winners of Telltale's 2007 Halloween Contest!
Max Hand Puppet
by Hillary Moberly

Says Hillary: "I found a place online called Project Puppet.com, where you can buy and download patterns for all kinds of puppets. Max, of course, falls squarely (or oblongly) into the category of 'melon-headed puppet.'"

The puppet itself is great, but the pictures were what put this entry over the top. That poor cat.

"Yikes!" says the pumpkin. Click the picture for more puppet exploits.
My Dog as Sam
by Zozenka

Says Zozenka, "This is my dog Astor. I dressed him up like Sam using my brother's underwear and my old sabotaged Simpsons socks. I hope we win or else my dog's going to be really angry."

Give that dog a treat!
The Max Cake
by CaptainXax

Says judge Dave Grossman, "I've done a few cakes in my day, it's a difficult medium to work in, especially when you go three-dimensional. And I like the idea that Max can eat the world, but then I can eat him."

Judge Mai Nguyen adds, "Besides the interesting medium of pastry, in which the candidate is clearly skilled, I liked the 'making of' approach. My favorite."

Bosco Paper Doll
by Dmytriy Stepchenkov

Living up to the high standards set by of last spring's Paper COPS (as seen here), Dmytriy brings us a great paper-and-scissors time-waster. Bonus: you get to dress Bosco up as Max!

The Special Writers' Admiration Award goes to...
'Twas the Night Before Halloween
by SamnMad

Telltale's writing staff unanimously chose this entry, "because that sort of thing is harder than it looks, and because he performed it instead of just sending the text," says Dave G. (Minus one point because 'confiscated' doesn't scan quite right, but still, nice job.)

Thanks to everyone who entered! This was fun, let's do it again next year. (Winners, you'll receive emails from me shortly. And by "shortly," I mean tomorrow.)

I love you guys. I love the entries. They're all fantastic.
Even if I hadn't won the contest, I fully support TTG and the Sam & Max awesomeness that accompanies it. With the money I've saved with the prizes, I think I'm going to go splurge on the store! Always wanted that Season One Soundtrack.

The cake was /delicious/, by the way.

I like the winners. I unfortunately got some hopes up that I would be one of them (a mistake, I know). What saddens me most though is that I wasn't on the other page of entries either, so no one here will get to hear my hard work. So, I have uploaded it to my myspace music page, in hopes that some of you will want to hear it. Feel free to leave comments there. I WON'T HAVE THE FILE THERE LONG! Get it while you can. Feel free to download it and give it to whoever.

"Sam and Max's Halloween"

(currently having upload problems, should be sometime tomorrow, wednesday)

Update: The file is up and should auto start when the page loads. Let me know if there are any problems with playback, as I had to use strange compression settings to get it to fit on the myspace page.

Oh, I also wanted to thank Telltale for having this contest to begin with. I had a lot of fun making my project.

I liked the puppet, and the dog was uncannily Sam-like. It was like... the same thing, except with four legs.
Comment by TrogLlama November 7, 2007, 3:28 am
Wow, I love the puppet. I think next year I'll try to do something with my cat as well, maybe I'll win then. :)

Comment by Marty November 7, 2007, 3:58 am
Hee, yes. The dog is like "This is so humiliating, but I want free Sam & Max games so I'll do it."

Why is the cake video crashing my browser?

Looks like my link didn't work properly

Not so important now that I know you guys will be posting the rest of the entries soon (thanks for the heads up Jake). But if any of you want to jump the gun on my project, it is still up for the time being. You may want to wait until telltale posts it, as it may be higher quality than myspace allowed.

Wow, great entries! I especially like the Max puppet... :)

Well, im happy for the winners, though i wanted to make a comment and dont want it to sound as a rant.

I didnt win and im cool with that, what it bothers me is that on the previous telltale blog you guys used my image to advertise the announcement of the entries, and is only human to assume that if you used an image to advertise the contest entries it is because that person has a place with the winners. But Damn, that was hell of a kick in the nuts.

Fantastic! :) I'm delighted to have won, and - as an aspiring writer, myself - especially delighted to have had my entry selected by Telltale's writing staff. Thanks Telltale and congrats to the other winners, as well! (they're all great and showcase a nice range of different styles)

I'm sorry. :(

Since you had two entries going on that blog, they made nice "bookends" at the beginning and end of the entry. With long entries we usually cut it off after the first picture so people have to click to see the rest, so that's how that happened. Also when I posted that blog the votes hadn't even been cast yet so I had no idea who would win.
