Okay, maybe this isn't the update you've been waiting for, but it's an update, and we know you've been waiting!
It occurred to me today that it's been a while since we let you guys in on what we're up to. Lest you think that's because we're slacking off on the beach, I assure you, it's because we're all really busy doing stuff that you'll be thankful for later on. Like what? Oh, stuff like planning for Comic-Con, where there will be a signing with Steve and plenty of hands-on time with Sam & Max Wii and Strong Bad for people who attend the show, and ramblingblogs so those of you who aren't attending can live vicariously through our sleep deprived haze. We're doing panels at Comic-Con, too... the schedule hasn't been announced yet, but as soon as it is, we'll clue you in! We've also got the Season Two DVD and some other new merchandise coming to the store soon, so woo!
On top of this, we're making some games! Sam & Max for the Wii has reached the stage where the Wii fairy touches it with her wand and, with a poof of magical sparkles, it turns into a real live game on store shelves. (Watch for it at retail this fall!) Then there's Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People... just because we're not talking about it doesn't mean we're not working on it! A lot of people have been asking us about the release date, and you can rest easy that as soon as we know when the game will launch, we'll pass the details on to you. Don't forget, the WiiWare and PC releases of SBCG4AP will be simultaneous! Everyone wins!
We're also plugging away on our super secret, not yet announced game series and it's coming along swimmingly. We should be able to spill some details pretty soon, which is good, because this game looks too good to keep it a secret much longer. (Okay, fine, you want a hint? It's a pretty big franchise, and one I bet none of you are expecting...)
So yeah, lots going on around here, and it's time for me to quit gabbing and get back to doing my job. Whatever happened to taking summers off?
Okay, maybe this isn't the update you've been waiting for

Nintendo will only allow the publisher's logo on the front and since becoming an official Wii publisher involves going through some hoops Telltale has let The Adventure Company be the sole publisher as far as Nintendo is concerned.

You would have thought they would let the developers logo on too. It seems cruel crediting the marketers but not the creators.

Wasn't the new serie supposed to be an original IP ?
I'm a bit disappointed that it's yet again an adaptation or a revival of some series.
But mostly, I'm frightened by the possible nature of this 'pretty big franchise, one [they] bet none of [us] are expecting': could it be Docteur Qui? did everybody at Telltale suddenly reveal their deep love of Seven Heaven? Or is it some kind of avant-garde work like adapting the Yellow-Pages? Or worse, could it be one of those mythical and much beloved franchises nobody really wants to see resurrected?

I dont think anyone at Telltale ever said that. People on the boards hoped it maybe, but nope. It's an existing property, and it's a cool one.

Hmmm.... depending on how much Emily is reversing psychology... Monkey Island? Nah, mustn't get my hopes up. But you have to admit, that would be an unexpected turn of events... and a pretty interesting one, at that.
By the way, Jake, not to contradict you (I'm sure you're in the know) but I distinctly remember somebody from TTG saying that you would soon be doing a game based on your own IP. It was in connection with a promotion of SBCG4AP, I think.
BTW, the abbreviation for StrongBads etc. etc. is quite the killer - couldn't you gave added a few more letters....?

cheers for the Halo franchise! Finally, a good adventure-game based Halo. I can't wait for my point and click alien smashing mayhem.
Nah, I bet it's the Putt Putt franchise and that crazy Sammy dude, to appeal to the younger Telltale audience. That certainly would diversify the large young-mid-range adult audience Telltale has been building. Putt Putt goes to Hell!

mmm, I've never heard Telltale saying they were going to be doing an original IP anytime soon. In fact, I remember them saying that they're quite happy utilizing existing franchises as you get a built in fan base and they're easier to market. And....that they'd like to do an original IP someday but not anytime soon. At least that's how I remember it.

I think Dan said in an interview recently (which I can't find right now) that within a year we'd be in a position to develop something from our own IP if we chose to. But everything we have in development right now is licensed. If we ever implied otherwise, it was not intentional.

As for it being an adaptation from from another franchise, as it's not sadly going to be MI and probably not Day of the Tenticle, I can only hope it's from one of my favourite cartoon series!

It's Futurama. Bigger than Sam & Max and Bone. I can't imagine it being one of the old Lucasarts franchises, as I believe they still hold all the rights to those games. It would be perfect for the new celshading techniques they have over at Telltale.
That, or Discworld.
Dear God, please let it be Discworld.

I was going to say Futurama, but that's been mentioned already (and been done aswell).
I also wouldn't call Day of the Tentacle a big franchise, but it would be nice though. Isn't there someone at TTG who has worked on DOTT? I think there is.
What other big franchises can we think of?
Hmmm... McDonalds Hamburgler? Where in the world is Paris Hilton (sponsored by the hotel chain)? Ren & Stimpy? Awwww... I wanna know!

Ren & Stimpy might have been BIG ten years ago, but it's only .... (that's BEEG in 2 point type) now.. Sad to say, but that's the way it is.
Day of the Tentacle was Maniac Mansion II. Personally, I wouldn't be all that distraught if I never saw another Maniac Mansion game ever again. Monkey Island, however, would be cool.
I know! Guitar Hero Adventures! (He says, with his tongue fully out in order to avoid the stuff that's coming up right behind.)

Married .. with Children, the Game.
By the way, nice Wii box -- with red logo and not too transparent looking trouser on Sam.

Considering the indie comic nature of Bone and Sam and Max, I'm going to guess The Tick. Not only was it a popular series back in the day, but the title character fits a more literal interpretation of the word "BIG" as well.
