Halloween contest winners, and prizes for everyone!
Posted by Emily October 31, 2008
Our annual Halloween contest has come to a close, and as usual, choosing the winning entries was INCREDIBLY difficult. We had so many great entries, we decided to bend the rules. That's why, in addition to awarding Sam & Max or Strong Bad prize packs to the five winners, we've also selected five honorable mentions to receive the downloadable season of your choice, and everyone who entered will be getting a free downloadable game of your choice. Yes, folks, it's a Halloween miracle!

Without further ado, I bring you this year's winners! (Emails will be sent to the winners at some point in the near future!)

Grand Prize Winners

Toy Mafia Pencil Topper
by Glen Fernández

Glen explains: "I made a toy bear sculpture (from Sam & Max 103) with a working pencil sharpener and the head can be attached on the tip of any pencil."

The judges overwhelmingly agreed that this is not only awesome, it looks like something that should be real and for sale in our store. Well done.

I Covet Candy
by David Pym

Says David, "Come to think of it, I'd barter off my good old immortal for a buick-sized KitKat Chunky too!"

"Nothing could possibly be more rad," says QA tester Shaun Finney. Daniel H-Bomb Herrera agrees: "It's something that even Strong Bad would consider pretty awesome."
Sam & Max Costume
by Breakman

"Skinny or not, that's a damn fine Sam costume," says Chuck Jordan. "Good lord, the production value," adds our newest designer Sean Vanaman. "Sam looks so soft, I can't tell if I want to smother him in hugs or run for my life. Either way."

The Sludgie flavor of the month is Corned Beef Hash, if you were wondering...

Shrunken Heads
by Aleksander Vujovic

"Shrunken heads hanging from the rear view mirror will always hold a special place in my heart. For some reason," says web developer Mike Watson. "Also it's a pretty good painting."

I have to agree. I especially like how you can make out Sam & Max's street in the background.
Jurgen's Monster-O-Lantern
by Light_Rises

Light_Rises explains: "Almost from the start, I'd wanted to put together something including Jurgen's Monster. (What can I say? I have a soft spot for the poor guy!) Talks of carving fake pumpkins at home -- along with a growing urge to beat a couple raw blocks of Super Sculpey into submission -- somehow spurred this on."

"Nice design using the character and perfect for the holiday," says Steve Purcell. "I want it -- send it over! Now!"

Hey, Light_Rises, you heard the man...
Honorable Mentions
Sam & Max Halloween Masks
by Ian Tonge

Do-it-yourself items are always a hit around here. In fact, our VP of Publishing James Lamorticelli is contemplating dressing up as Flint next time he goes on a business trip.

Follow this link to download the masks (available in Flint, Maimtron, Momma Bosco, Pedro, Superball, Jurgen, and Satan).

Ian explains, "Simply print it off, glue it onto some cardboard and cut around the dotted lines. Poke yourself some eye holes and attach some string or tape it to a stick and you're away!"
Marzipan Gourd
by Jeremy Pryzby

A perfect use of a sort of superfluous fruit. Also the facial expression really captures Marzipan. (Kind of makes you want to play Baddest of the Bands, hmm...?)
Max Bread
by Magnus Larsen

"Excellent presentation of the creative act," praises Steve Purcell. "The artist lovingly sculpts a Max bread, cruelly sears it on an open flame, then ingests her own piece of process art. Thank God they didn't document the next stage."

My question is, did the cat get to try it? (Click the image for more pictures!)
Beadstar Runner
by Anthony Brain

Anthony based these figures on the sprites posted on the HR Wiki. They're made using Hama beads (a.k.a. Perler beads), which melt together when you iron them.

Sam & Max in Trick or Treat
by Werner Bruder

This little video has many charming qualities, but my favorite is Max's Halloween costume. He's dressed up like a paper bag puppet of himself. Now, that's clever.

(Click the picture to see the video on YouTube!)

Thanks again for all of the wonderful entries, we had a lot of fun looking at them. (And we hope everyone who entered had fun making them!)

Winners will receive emails with info on how to get your prizes sometime this weekend. Happy Halloween, everybody!

Wow, the entries upped the ante this time. Even the honorable mentions are awesome, which makes me wonder what the rest of the entries were like! Good job all around... I just wish I had held on to my "tiniest tribute to sam and max" until there was a contest. Oh well, all in good fun.

Oh, and I think all of us are waiting for TTG to license the pencil toppers and start selling them...

All of those entries are superb. I especially like the little 'S&M' logos on the sweets in David Pym's picture.

Wow, those are all awesome.

I decided not to enter, since I already had (or will soon have) all the prizes. But now I see there's no way i'd have won anyway!

I WANT THAT PENCIL SHARPENER! How did she do it?

I thought that's what she won. I was wondering, "Why haven't I seen that in the store?"

I think you should come to an agreement to have a few more made! It's overwhelmingly good (and hilarious - sticking the pencil in the butt?!)

Oh, wow ... what a way to top off the Halloween weekend! Thank you so much, Telltale! (And Steve Purcell wants it? Wow. Yes, of course I'll send it! Although I'm not exactly sure where to ... ^^; )

Lots of incredible entries. That pencil topper is still blowing my mind; add me to the folks who want to see it become real merchandise. And I would totally set David's piece as my desktop wallpaper (but it's too small—woe! D: ). The excellent Sam costume and the Flash toon also made me smile.

Awesome job, everyone!

Heh heh... next year I'll blow you all away... I only had time to enter placeholder entries (which have now earned me Ice Station Santa for christmas! :) )... I'll tell you this, though, it'll be EPIC. Next year, I'm makin' a fan-made full-length PUPPET TIME CARTOON!!! With a whole year to make it... yeah, I'll get it right this time.
