Breaking news: Wallace & Gromit launching on XBLA and PC this spring!
Posted by Emily February 4, 2009

"Here they come!!"

Wallace & Gromit are coming to XBLA!

We have two excellent pieces of Wallace & Gromit news to share. The first is that in addition to PC, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures will be appearing on Xbox Live Arcade. (Woo!)

We've long believed that XBLA is an excellent platform for episodic games, and we're super excited to be making our debut* with Wallace & Gromit. We even designed a new UI specifically for the Xbox controls. Before long you'll see for yourself, but for the moment you'll have to take my word for it that this series is shaping up to be Telltale's most cinematic endeavor yet.

Which brings me to the second piece of news... you won't have to take my word for it much longer, because we've revealed today that Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures will be launching in the spring. Hey, that's soon!

We'll have a lot more info to share as we build up to the release, so get ready for Telltale to kick into Wallace & Gromit overdrive! Of course, our newsletter is a great way to keep up on our latest announcements (plus it's pretty entertaining, if I do say so myself). Sign up for it today and we promise we'll let you know when Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures is available.

Special bonus deal: Through the end of February, we're offering a FREE Sam & Max or Strong Bad episode to new newsletter subscribers. You get to keep up on Wallace & Gromit news AND play a free game while waiting for the new series to launch. Too good to be true! (And yet, it IS true!) Here's the page you want -- go do it!

In honor of this momentous announcement, we've put up some new Wallace & Gromit screenshots. Check them out here. Then, please join us on the forum to talk about the upcoming series!

*Not so subtle hint: additional XBLA announcements will be coming in the near future!

I'm happy this game is coming out, but sad that we won't get a Wii version. I've got all of the Strong Bad episodes, and Episode 1 of Sam & Max on Wii.

I probably won't get a chance to play this unless there's a Wii version since my PC is a Mac. :(

Woah, that's some great news. Will get it on PC.

The only sad thing (as mentioned earlier) is that it's not coming to the Wii. I see the game not fitting on WiiWare service due to its size, but the retail version (after the launch of all episodes) could have a Wii version...

Agree with Joe that I'm disappointed (and more than a little surprised) that W&G won't be appearing on the Wii (at least at first). I'm sure Telltale has their reasons, but I would have thought that the family-friendly Wii market and the family-friendly Wallace and Gromit IP would be an obvious fit.

Still, it's always good to see more of Wallace and Gromit. Anyone else caught "A Matter of Loaf and Death" yet?

Great...not even a PSN version? Please? I've got a Wii and PS3... would rather wait a little while for a PS3 port than play it on my aging PC.

I will play Wallace and Gromit on neither PC or 360. Many many families will not play this because the 360 was never and will never compete for mainstream family friendly audiences like the Nintendo systems always have.

Dissapointed and angry that most likely money motivated this decision, ironic because you will see a whole lot less of it with the 360 online sales.

Calm down warwick. The episodes are surely going to be too big for WiiWare, like those of Sam & Max, but Emily has hinted in the forums at an eventual Wii release on disc once the season is completed.

Spring is ages away! It's still summer!

(Sorry, this whole northern/southern hemisphere thing can get annoying when seasons are used to announce releases... can't you just say "some time between March and June")

No Wii version? Hm. Probably too big for the download service.

Any chance we'll see this as a season collection ala Sam & Max? My wife and I just got through Season 1 on our Wii, and would love to play Wallace and Gromit as well.

Sweet. I wonder if that means that TellTales' next game will be on Playstation Network. Anyway, it's a good thing that it's also on the PC as I don't own a 360 (but hope to).

Also wondering with "Sir Hobo" a few posts above: That 'free' deal is only for new subscribers, eh? Will pre-existing subscribers get something as well, or are we off the hook?

anyways, Cannot WAIT to try Wallace And Gromit on the XBLA! Achievements-hurrah!

I hope I can download it through telltale not have to use Games for Windows:LIVE. I already got ripped off with the Fallout 3 add-on. LIVE won't start on my machine after they updated it automatically, so I couldn't download the game I paid for. No refunds, either. Their Xbox LIVE points system is also a huge scam, where you have to buy more points than you need to buy what you want instead of using your credit card to buy it directly as an option.

Hey, Nintendo does the same thing with Wii points, wittzo. The tradeoff is the security you get from not using credit card info at all, though (or in my case, simply not having or wanting a credit card).

The "can't download the game I paid for" thing does sound like something bad though, sad to hear it happened to you. You DID email MS about this, right?

I'd like to throw in my request for a PSN version. Without the arbitrary XBLA size limitations, we could finally get some lossless audio assets (PS3 has built-in support for several lossless codecs) and uncompromised textures. I have to say that while I loved SBCG4AP on WiiWare, the sound quality was absolutely horrible a lot of the time, and greatly decreased the value for me.

I'm happy to pay $10 per episode, or $40 for a Season, but only if the assets are of a quality that meets my expectations for the amount I paid.

So, again, please release on PSN -- we all saw that you were hiring a PSN release person on the jobs page! :)

Keep up the good work!

The XBLA game size limit (150MB) has never really been enforced that well, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix With Bells And Whistles Coming Out The Wazoo broke the size limit, so did Portal: Still Alive and several others

Why didn't people complain about SBCG4AP not coming out on PS3 when it came out on the Wii?

Isn't this eventually going to turn in to a little console war?

Why not a PS3 Version? Well, you're probably dirt-poor from buying that Panini Press that happens to be an embarrassment to videogames, so complain to Sony for a change.

Shame that there is no Wii version... my family have loved playing Sam and Max and Strong Bad on the Wii. We have a Mac we'll have to hope you guys release it for the Wii sometime in the future. We are all big W and G fans so I can't say we are not disappointed that we won't be able to play this.

>The "can't download the game I paid for" thing does sound like something bad though, sad to >hear it happened to you. You DID email MS about this, right?

I struggled with it for a couple of days. MS doesn't provide support for Games for Windows:LIVE. The only solution I got from volunteers on their LIVE forum was to upgrade to Vista. GfW:L Client ran fine while I set up an account, used my credit card to buy points, and used my points to buy an add-on to Fallout 3. Before it let me download the game, it wanted to download an update. There's the rub. It updated itself, rebooted the computer and now it doesn't want to run at all. I can use Fallout 3 to access my account and play online, that works fine. The downloading client doesn't want to start at all, even through Fallout 3. I called XBOX:LIVE, which is the only contact MS has for LIVE, they said they don't issue refunds. They think that buying a game equates downloading a game. They kept referring me to MS support, but MS doesn't support Games for Windows:LIVE. If your download hoses up in midstream, you have to buy it all over again.

Another thing I have problems with is that I had to buy 1000 points for $13 to buy a game that only cost 800 points. I have 200 points "change" in my account, but if I want to use it, I have to buy an excess of points to buy something else, so I'll always have change in my account that I can't use unless I buy more points. They're ripping us off that way. If they sold it using a credit card they could sell it for the face amount, but they won't be able to nickel and dime us. I don't own an XBox, so I'm not a regular customer. If they don't fix their problems with the Client software (which they won't, since they're not worried about XP any more) I won't be able to be a customer. They're shooting themselves in the foot, they might as well make all the Games for Windows work on Vista only.

I know Bill Gates just retired and he's now living on a fixed income, but I don't think he's going to be standing on a street corner with a tin cup, but he sure is running a 3 card Monty game with this deal.

If Telltale doesn't sell it through their own shopping cart, I'm going to wait until they sell it on the shelf at a store.

Beware of Games for Windows:LIVE, they're trying to rip us off by forcing us to upgrade to Vista to download games that run fine on XP and they want us to pay $13 for games that cost the equivalent of $9.50 so they can keep the change.

I ended up torrenting the add-on for free and it worked fine on my machine, it wasn't piracy, since I paid for it and I have a receipt. I had to shoplift something I bought the day before. What a gyp.
