June 17, Sam & Max Save the World on XBLA!
Posted by Emily June 11, 2009
We've just announced that Sam & Max will be making their Xbox LIVE Arcade debut next Wednesday, June 17. Sam & Max Save the World (formerly known as Sam & Max Season One) will be available on for 1600 Microsoft points... that's less than 300 points per episode. The Xbox version supports widescreen and HD graphics, includes achievements, and can be enjoyed from the comfort of your couch -- just like a good TV show!

The first season of Sam & Max's episodic adventures -- which won a number of Editor's Choice and Game of the Year awards from pubs like IGN, PC Gamer, and GameSpy -- has six episodes that take the Freelance Police deeper and deeper into a bizarre mind-control plot. From washed-up child stars to the Toy Mafia to the United States government, no one is safe from the hypnotic trance sweeping the world. Can Sam & Max stop the force behind this evil plot before the entire world falls victim?

If you're a PC gamer who has somehow missed out on Sam & Max all these years, for a limited time we've dropped the price of Season One to $19.95, so you, too, can see what all the fuss is about. Get it here as downloads, or along with a bonus DVD containing the games and video content. (You'll be charged shipping if you opt for the bonus DVD.)

does the XBLA version have any graphical or engine improvements over the PC version? A velvety shader and a fuzz bumpmap on Sam's skin would make him look much better, IMO.

PSN release soon? please? with high quality audio? pretty please?

keep up the awesome work! :)

since the xbla version of sam and max season 1 is getting widescreen support, does that mean the pc version will eventually?

Boo,
You have now lost my custom forever (and I suspect a few million more). Where is season three? Wallace and Grommit is OK , Sad Bad or whatever is rubbish, but Sam & Max is what made you, and now you are ignoring people who gave you jobs! Boo, Boo again.

@bfgp I don't know if we've said anything other than "we will be making more Sam & Max." I think you're filling in the blanks in the way that is most likely to freak yourself out. We've got a lot of things going on, but we haven't forgotten Sam & Max... because it would be fairly impossible to forget them!

S&M 3 were supposed to be launched now-ish, but at the end of last year, Monkey Island came along, eating up all resources. And the TTG guys just couldn't reveal why S&M was delayed all these months! Until earlier this month that is, of course.
No, the "suspected millions" of customers will happily wait for S&M after ToMI has been finished.

Any chance of setting up those XBL achievements as Steam achievements for PC players as well?

Comment by Sam

It's not downloading for me either, everyone is having the same problem according to the Xbox.co.uk forums. Not the launch that telltale would have been hoping for I suspect...

I'm having the same problem, and I do have XBOX Live Gold. I've purchased it, but the download only goes to about 1% and then an error message pops up. Maybe something to do with high download volume? Maybe it's just that popular.

June 17, 2009, 12:03 pm
Nope. The XBL maintainance update has F*ked up. Most of the content is missing, and what is there tends to bring up an error message. Keep an eye on http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/default.aspx Can't beleive it... after months of waiting and taking a day off to play S&M (yup, I'm THAT sad!) MS go and mess it up big time.

I've paid my cash (well 1600 points) and all I can do is sit and wait... not the launch I suspect the guys at Tale Tell were hoping for! I just hope it doesn't effect overal sales, as i want Monkey Island ported onto XBLA asap and those bunch of monkeys over at Microsoft aren't really helping the cause!

Grrrrrrrrrr..... :o(

$1 for you guys in the states maybe... but here in the UK we get no such break.

Besides, $1 for XBL is a bit like putting a Cherry on a Dog Poo..... it's still a Dog Poo (and a white one at that!)

Well, that's it, I'm done. It's past midnight here in the UK and time to give up and catch some shut eye. Worst bit is that not only bid I waste a days vacation on the 'no show', but tomorrow eve I have to entertain my boss and some clients, so it'll be Friday eve at least until I get a sniff of Max's ears :0( TaleTell, I thank you - keep the faith!.... Microsoft, I salute you (yes, that is a salute of the one-fingered variety!). Night each....

Ok, 2 Questions:

Why does the game suffer from performance hicups and stuttering issues in the 360?!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjJggEL5SUE

And why did you not include languages like german if it was already recorded for the pc?

this keeps many people from buying it for the console. Shame on you!

And for everyone who can speak german I wrote an article about this problems:

Since every console (except the PS3) and the PC have Sam n Max , can we as PS3 owners have it too.
I own a PC but want it on my PS3 and will not buy it on any other platform.

I just started playing Culture Shock on 360 and I'm stuck on the psychlogy, unless it's not important.
It's really good. That's all I have to say.

And Hferg, JUST WAIT. Telltale has their hands full with Tales of Monkey Island. I'm pretty sure they'll get to it after Monkey Island.

Hey, I loved Sam and Max when I played it on the PC many years ago. So I really wanted to love S&M on the Xbox 360 too. But there are at least two CRITICAL flaws with it:

1) No way to save the game? You have to be kidding me. For a game titled "Sam and Max Save The World" how comes I can't save my progress? I just lost about an hours worth of puzzle solving thanks to that.

2) Why does it skip and jerk constantly? That's what I expect on a PC game but on a console where nothing else is happening? Eh?

I really hope you guys patch these issues ...
Comment by Mike
June 20, 2009, 10:14 am
Are you saying you can't save on the Xbox version?

I can save the game when I play it. Just press start and go to Save/Load.

I don't know about the jerking thing.
Comment by Sam
June 21, 2009, 10:26 am
@Mike - First-up, you shouldn't loose any (or very little) Puzzle solving, as the game uses autosave? Also, the Xbox gaming std process of pressing 'start' opens a Save window (as Sam mentions above). Are you sure you're not trying to run it on your PS3 :o)

The 'Jerky' thing is an interesting point. I have a new 'Jasper' Xbox Arcade (having recently replaced my 'day-1' unit which sucombed to RROD) and other than the odd word drop out (at the end of some conversation trails) and a few stutters on some cut-scences, I think the engine it pretty dam fine. Much better than Wallace and Grommit - which was a bit flakey (appreciate it's prob the same engine, so assume either S&M is less intensive or was better optimised).

Read a few posts saying the same (including the cluless review by IGN), so wonder if it's hardware related at all?

Anyway, I've just read that W&G only did 12k units in the fist few weeks, so I'm just hoping beyond hope that S&M knocks it out of the park or we'll never see Monkey Island hit XBLA and that would just be wrong! :o(

I hope Monkey Island comes to XBLA, too.

Uhh....... Sam and Max save the world was a great game. I never played the PC version (I've played the demos). I had problems with Sam walking around, when I point to something and he runs/wlaks right past it.

I also love it when Abe goes DAAAAAAAAAAAM! in episode 6. ^_^

Also played all Sam and Max games on the PC and love it on both systems! Keep on going TellTale games you converted me to downloads on XBOX LIVE ARCADE downloads!

Do I really have to buy this again. I bought it as an early costumer, back when you weren't famous yet. I bought it again when it came out for Steam. I recently saw it on retail here in Spain, didn't think it would get international distribution and though as an early costumer I was entitled to a special edition box set, I didn't make use of it and might get it again on retail. I would get it for Wii, but I don't have a Wii :( And now on Xbox Live?

I mean, I hate the sodapoppers, and season 1 means sodapoppers all over the place. But it's widescreen, it has achievements and it has some extras (judging by the contents of the demo).

Aw, I think I pass on this one. Could it be possible that you add the achievements to the Steam system?

I know this has nothing to do with Sam and Max, but.....

DON'T LISTEN TO THE MONKEY ISLAND FAN BOYS WHINING ABOUT THE GRAPHICS!
Really, when was graphics better then story and gameplay? It's nice to ahve great grpahics, but to me: Story/Gameplay< Graphics.

Can't wait for Monkey Island and Sam and Max Season 3!

Could there be more Strong Bad games or are the 5 episodes the entire series of SBCG4AP?
