Monkey Island DVD art, in progress
Posted by David E July 3, 2009

Being a longtime fan of the Monkey Island™ games, it has been a unique privilege to see the game take shape during the past few months at Telltale HQ. I'm really excited about the launch of the new series, and one thing that has sent my geekiness about the existence of new MI games soaring to dangerous new levels is the prospect of seeing a new Monkey Island painting by Steve Purcell...

Today, Steve sent us a couple of photos of the (in-progress) exclusive DVD slipcase artwork for the folks who pre-ordered Tales of Monkey Island, which I will now tease you with:

Steve working on the underpainting Elaine detail

The first photo is a glance at Mr. Purcell working on the underpainting, and the second is an extreme close-up of Elaine's face. If you want to get the final version of this artwork for your Collector's DVD case, so you can get your grubby hands all over it, don't hesitate to grab your copy of Tales of Monkey Island before Tuesday, July 7th!

You should have waited until Monday to post this. Sort of overshadows Emily's goodbye. Awesome stuff, though.

Why does have a toothbrush on his desk? Is he really so busy that he can't brush at a sink? P:

I think we should be more concerned about the monkey smoking a fag! And loving the old skool TV/VHS combo on the desk.

Looks great. Purcell is a bit of a legend.

I'm more mesmerized by Steve's desk, to tell you the truth. LOL.
Does it come with my pre-order?

I like Guy's pose, it reminds me of Zak McKracken.

Steves desk is the coolest desk ever!
I wish I could have shown this to my mom, everytime she complained about the mess in my room.

Can't wait to see the final product, hope it captures the style that was used in for the first 2 MI games which Steve designed the coverarts for.

No, haha, the toothbrush is a very common artistic tool, used to 'spray' paint drops.. :)

Looks very nice ;)

@ Steve's Desk:
Is that Spiderman checking the butt of a dragon/alien, and while doing this leaning on a Michael Jackson look-a-like monkey head, and the dragon/alien is watching tv and has his dinner on his head who is secretly in love with the roof paint?

Never mind my mind :)

Great news, Sir Purcell (yes, you deserve the honor) makes the greatest Adventure and Monkey Island covers. Can't wait :D

Steve has a very messed up desk.

On other news, why does my Steam account say under "Not Installed":

Wallace and Gromit Ep5 --► Not yet released
and
Wallace and Gromit Ep6 --► Not yet released

I thought there where only 4 W&G games.
