Announcing CSI: Deadly Intent
Posted by David E July 16, 2009

Prof. Ray Langston! This was murmured about in various places earlier in the week, but today our friends at Ubisoft officially released the a trailer for CSI: Deadly Intent, which debuts exclusively over at Yahoo! Games. The CSI: Crime Scene Investigation series has returned to Las Vegas, and yes, we're making the latest installment (for Wii, Xbox 360, and PC)!

One thing that's pretty noticeable, but definitely worth mentioning: As on the TV series, the CSI Vegas team in Deadly Intent is joined by Dr. Ray Langston, played by Lawrence Fishburne!

Watch the CSI: Deadly Intent trailer and check out some screenshots over at Yahoo! Games.

This is great news. Now I don't have to look over my shoulder every time I mutter the words "Deadly" or "Intent."

Haha, that video reminds me of the early days of design for this game, when there was a drawing of a heart-shaped bed and stick figures on one of the meeting room white boards. It was up there for weeks and I think no one really knew what it was so everyone was afraid to erase it in case it was important. I scribbled something about Leisure Suit Larry above the drawing because there's a heart-shaped bed in one of those games, and then some press guys saw it and thought we were secretly reviving the LSL franchise. Good times...

That's an awesome tidbit, Emily. Hopefully, one day, Telltale will adapt your stories into an adventure game. A Telltale Leisure Suit Larry game would be cool, too, but not without Al Lowe.

So, I think I missed the era of Telltale when it made a CSI game(s). A few questions: clearly it's not a comedy--is it still Telltale's writers, or just programmers? How is the development different from the other games you make, without Ubisoft? Is it in episodes or one thing? Is it online or on store shelves?

Also, Emily, good to see you still around as promised--just yesterday I was trying to boot up Leisure Suit Larry 7 on Windows XP (to share with a fellow adventure gamer the brilliance that the series had once attained before becoming mindless mini-game drivel) and I found an old forum post of yours from adventure gamers in 2004 that helped me troubleshoot the installation (at least the same icon as yours and it was signed Emily...). It was comforting in a strange way.

Hey - glad to see CSI back on the video games...

I have one question, wonders if anyone knows? Will Marg Helgenberger's voice be featuring in this game? Because obviously she did Cath's V/O in the first 2 games, but for the second 2 she didn't... this will pretty much be my deciding factor on buying the game, I'm not much of a Fishburne fan, or Riley - Cath, Nick & Greg are what is left of CSI to me!

@HappyCoincidence - Telltale's writers, artists, and programmers - although the stories and art and gameplay mechanics do all need to be approved by Ubisoft and CBS. In many ways it's no different than working with a traditional license holder. For the past games, after Telltale came up with the stories, the dialogue was written by an official CSI writer, but I'm not sure if that happened with this game.

If you click on the CSI tag under this blog and scroll back a few pages, and then a few more pages, you'll find designer diaries written by Greg Land, who was the lead designer on the first two CSI games Telltale did. Those will answer some of your questions.

And yeah, that post at Adventure Gamers was me. :)

Where is the PS3/PSN version of all your games?

It is starting to really disappoint how Telltale is not backing the PlayStation Network.

Perhaps 24+ million potential customer is insufficient?

Wasn't a big fan of CSI after they took some of the characters away. Now my favorite CSI show is CSI:NY. But this game looks cool. Probably will never play it...

I know. :P

I played Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, and it's really fun. Lucasarts should make more remakes of their old adventure games, like Loom, Sam and Max, Indiana Jones Last Crusade and Fate of Atlantis, Monkey Island 2, Put Curse of Monkey Island on XBLA and PSN, etc.
