Pre-Order!

The time has come to clear space on your video game shelf, because the Tales of Monkey Island DVD is coming! Not only will it feature both the PC and Mac version of Tales, it's jam packed with extras like design team commentary videos, official trailers, all five "I Wonder What Happens..." videos, desktop wallpapers and a sneak peek at Telltale's newest game, Sam and Max: The Devil's Playhouse!

Expected to ship in Spring, PRE-ORDER NOW for just the price of shipping, and make sure your DVD is one of the first out the door. Feeling shipping savvy? For a limited time, we're offering free shipping for orders over $50 (excluding prints, running until March 28th) so if our fantastic new merch strikes your fancy, your DVD will be super-free.

It wasn't enough to just offer the disc, we wanted a Deluxe edition of the DVD to complete the experience. Under the guise of a "vacation cruise", we tricked the entire Tales of Monkey Island team into sailing across the world to find relics of Guybrush's adventures. Excursions to the Rock of Gelato for autographed sextants were unsuccessful, as was pursuing the lost adventures of our friend, Lefty the Poxed Hand. Luckily, most of the team returned with treasure in hand, though some with a wicked case of scurvy, and some with merely a tan.

Selflessly, they have granted us the privilege of sharing their private collection with DVD owners of discerning taste: order the Deluxe Edition DVD and you'll get the pre-order only Steve Purcell DVD slipcover and a handful of keepsakes recovered from the game. Among the collected treasures, you may recognize a mysterious Voodoo card from the Voodoo Lady, a map from Reginald Van Winslow’s collection, a piratey piece of eight, a drink coaster from Club 41 and a souvenir button from the Trial of the Century!

If you've already bought the season, these precious artifacts will only cost you $14.99 to upgrade, but if you're new to Tales of Monkey Island you can get the season, collector's disc and all the goodies for $49.99. In addition, we have loads of new Tales merchandise available in our store, ready for your discerning eye. New button packs, you say? A Voodoo card set?

Go get it!

Wow! I'll probably be picking up the Deluxe version. I have a few questions about the free shipping though.

The $50 qualifying amount: Does that include Digital games? (for example if i was to pre-order Sam&Max to boost the total up, would that count?)
Does the UK fall under the free shipping?

Does Australia fall under free shipping? And, if so, how long does the free shipping for orders over $50 last for? A day? A week?

No, that's the price of the cheapest shipping option. I remember this being a lot less last time I ordered a bunch of stuff from Telltale.

Also, when I preordered this game with the promise that I'd get the DVD for 'just the price of shipping', I didn't quite expect the price of shipping to be just as much as the price of the game.

Well I think the best thing to do is to buy the collector edition at 14,99$ and preorder sam and max season 3 at 34.95$. Even if it was 49,94$ total I was eligible for the free shipping...

Yeah, ummm... my Wallace & Gromit DVD was shipped via USPS First-Class Mail International and cost $11.23, while ToMI only lets me select USPS Priority Mail International for a whopping $18.00 - whatever happened to the slower but cheaper variant?

That wouldn't be a ploy to make us get the Deluxe Edition plus S & M Season Three which - thank $DEITY - qualify for free shipping even though they're 10 cents short of the 50 dollars limit? :P

situation 1:
TMI DVDs with purcell cover pre-ordered in july for $27.96
Now I'd like my DVDs and see that shipping costs $18 for that. That's steep. Oh wait. There is a freeshipping deal that requires $50 in an order. My original $27.96 does not count for that. I require to purchase $50 of new stuff I did not intend to buy (yet).

situation 2:
Have not pre-ordered anything in july. Purchase deluxe edition now for 49,95 (smart tactics on that, with the whole 50 dollars shipping deal) and get the purcell cover as well (oh.. note that deducts incentive for the loyal pre-order customers to pre-order again in the future). Only need to purchase a small thing from the store that I would like (lets say a single episode from a game) to be eligible for free shipping.

Am I the only one who feels this is a bit odd? Pre-orderers have not only lost part of the incentive for pre-ordering, but will also face a steeper situation in the free shipping deal.

Don't mean to be trolling, but it seems a bit unfair?

Curse you Telltale Games for making me spend over $80 on the Deluxe Edition, Sam & Max pre-order, tarot cards and drinking vessel! Curse you and your capitalism!

Also, $27,96 + shipping < $50. It would be a bit crazy if shipping was over $10, let alone $20, so either way, you're still off cheaper. And, you can also get the Deluxe Edition for $15 if you already have the full season. Sure it negates pre-ordering just a little (you still get the free game and the special privilege board before launch), but at least it's something. Either way, you're off cheaper, so don't be such a cheapskate.

I pre-ordered TOMI. And I'm also feeling ripped off. The exclusive cover is no longer exclusive, and thanks to the fact that I pre-ordered, it doesn't count towards the free postage amount.

I've got a few days to think about this, it seems... but I feel ripped off for my loyalty, guys. I pre-ordered TOMI when I own nothing but a Mac!

March 12, 2010, 2:50 pm
Yeah, so much for the need to preorder stuff from now on. Whatever they're throwing in as an incentive will apparently be available later on anyway.

I'm even more annoyed about the fact that I'm essentially paying over $50 for a bunch of goodies, since I already own the game. Although I could just order the voodoo cards and the art portfolio and have it shipped to me for free. It'd still add up to over $50, but this way I get more stuff. Hey, your loss, Telltale.

Wait how are people getting $18 shipping to Australia? I only get $35. I get the impression the shipping thing may be out of Telltale's control for now--quoted from above:

"We're aware there's some crazy shipping costs internationally right now, and we've been looking into minimizing these fees, but unfortunately right now they are as they are. Sorry!"

Perhaps the 'spend $50 for free shipping' deal is actually in place to help counter this. I.e. for myself, I am ordering the $14.95 deluxe version of TMI, which makes my order $14.95 + $35 shipping = approx $50. OR I could just go find $35 worth of stuff in the store and qualify for free shipping.

Although yes, I never planned on spending $50 today, at least I will get $50 worth of stuff :)

To those who are annoyed by the availability of the deluxe edition, it's not just $14.95 for an already promised slip case, there are other goodies included as well. I'm not sure whether everyone understands that? I guess yes, the exclusive cover is not as exclusive now, but there will still be some who only get the 'normal' version that you can be superior too :). As someone who didn't know about the pre-ordering and thought they had missed out, I am very very happy about it.

Thanks Telltale, you are awesome :)

Note, any questions can be mailed to support@telltalegames.com or asked on the forums! TO check shipping costs, you have to go through the check out process and the last step will give you the options you can get. Right now it appears bundles are getting overcharged in terms of shipping, so that's something we're looking at. There were other incentives to pre-ordering ToMI, just the same as pre-ordering The Devil's Playhouse, though of course it is entirely optional to do.
Comment by nikasaur
March 12, 2010, 9:22 pm
Yep, pre-ordering gets you the Purcell slipcase. Which you otherwise would only get if you'd order the Deluxe version, which costs an additional $14.99.

Of course, being the gullible nutcase that I am, I still ordered the Deluxe version upgrade (got the S&M season 1 and 2 casefiles also). And of course S&M season 3, so I got the free shipping to the Netherlands (albeit 10 cents short, but it shows TTG is a nice company anyways).

Oh, and the voodoo cards, which weren't needed to get enough stuff to be eligible for free shipping (I think they even count as 'print' anyway), but I like the artwork!

I understand that the pre-order bonuses now seem unfair... but, why can't we share? Why must we have something more than other people? Honestly, I pre-ordered knowing full well that the bonuses were only limited: We wouldn't get the games any earlier than anybody else... We'd have to wait as long as everyone else. The idea when I pre-ordered was not the bonuses (although the forum was a nice way to wait), but the fact that I was supporting a franchise and putting faith into it before it's released.

Let's share. If people want to spend an extra 15-20 bucks to get an upgraded slipcase and other goodies, let's let them get it. Maybe some people didn't even hear about the new Monkey Island games until after the pre-order! Telltale has been good to us: Monkey Island has been dead for years, and they brought it back--with goodies. Lots and lots of goodies.

Certainly, the shipping rates are little crazy for our international people, but do you honestly think Telltale is sincerely trying to shaft you? They are aware of it... They're doing their best.

Let's put some faith into a company that actually listens to what we want and tries their best to give it to us. There are far too few capitalist corporations that actually listen these days.

First I felt I was being ripped off... I live in Canada, and shipping the DVD with USPS cost 15.75.
I was not interested in the deluxe pack, but I liked the mug. You can actually use that thing... most stuff of the deluxe version will only gather dust in my room (that doesn't mean they're not cool!).

Shipping for the mug alone costed 15.90 ..... (total cost : 35$ for the mug...)

But then I added the physical DVD in the shopping cart (I had preordered it) and the new shipping cost was 15.90 !!

So if you see it that way, you buy the mug and get the DVD shipped for free, or vice versa : you buy the shipping for the preordered DVD and get the shipping of the mug for free !!!

But then I realised I wanted the new Sam & Max game, which gives a coupon for an extra episode, so now the shipping of my mug AND my DVD is entirely free.

So you can get blackmailed into buying stuff OR get great value... feel free to share other great money saving alternatives!

Why can't Wii customers get the free copy of these games on disc? My poor Wii is full of them now and I would love to have the disc to keep and free up some room! It seems pretty unfair not to offer Wii customers the same deal as PC people are getting, seeing as we paid for the episodes just the same as everyone else did...
