Just a Quick First Week On the Job Report and Bonus
Posted by Alan August 20, 2010

Hey everybody, today marks the end of my first week here at Telltale Games and it’s been great. As with any new job, it’s been a learning experience but it’s gone as smoothly as it could. Things like finding the best places to grab lunch, plotting out the best route for my commute to and from work, and getting my desk set up with the stuff I need have been just some of the very important tasks I’ve had to address. As fantastic as my week has been, I am looking forward to stretching out and doing absolutely nothing all weekend, maybe playing some of the Sam and Max - The Devil's Playhouse season finale that's coming soon. Yes, that's right - soon.

No, but seriously, I’ve gotten a chance to meet a lot of the great people here and start working on some very exciting projects and initiatives that I can’t wait to tell you all about - you’ll be hearing more about some of these soon, leading into PAX and beyond. Also, next week looks to be filled with lots of Freelance Police centric content - but I've already said too much.

I’ve had a chance to start reaching out to the awesome community as well. You’ve all been very welcoming and I look forward to serving you as best I can. I’ve got some fun ideas about some things I’d like to do to make the Telltale community experience the best it can be, so I’ll keep you all posted on those things as they develop too.

Here's the 'Bonus'.

So, what are some of the things you’d like to see happen in the Telltale community space? Be as creative as you want in your answers, and trust me, I will take your ideas to heart. Making the Telltale Games community (the boardsthe blogour Facebook page, whatever) the place to be is my ultimate goal. Don’t hesitate to PM me at ‘ajohnson’ about anything and everything.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Interview Dan on how the depth and breadth of "snappage," and ask Kevin anything about object-oriented programming... then take a few shots of absinthe and write whatever comes to mind as they prattle on... ;)

I'd like to see more competitions where the prize involves getting in the game in some way, like the 'perfectly good X' line in Monkey Island.

Apparently i'm the only person who thinks telltale tuesdays were seriously lame.

Peronally, i'd like to see more stuff about the games. It seems like It seems like lately we don't even know what the release date is for new games until the day they come out. I'd prefer some more teasers and even machinimas like back in ye olden days for s&m season 1.

More Facebook and Twitter-only stuff. The Puzzle agent contests on those were great.

The awesomeness of Telltale Tuesdays was before by time but I'd like to see more communication about the games. More Q&As with the design teams, or even fortnightly blog entries by the episode directors would keep me interested.

As for things you could specialise in, how's about interviews in podcast format? Maybe I'm asking for too much at this stage.

I know, some are a little bit crazy, but... here I go:

1) Release date game: Guess the game release date & time with a prize for one of the correct answers
2) Puzzle game: If you type the correct answer for an hard logical puzzle, you'll win the link to exclusive new screenshot/wallpaper/whatelse
3) More about TT: Biography of some members of Telltale and who-did-that-texture/animation/puzzle retrospective.
4) My opinion counts!: Users submit their own reviews, and other users or Telltale vote the best one and make it win some discount/game/concept/prize
5) TT TV: Monthly videochat/webcast with game directors/staff/TT people
6) Choose TT priority: a "What should Telltale do first" board, which contains all the TT portings and convertions, and users can give a hint of what should go out first
7) A reverse interview: Telltale interviews the users.
8) Telltale Poker: 5 TT people play poker, each one have a different secret bonus content that will be shown in case of winning (soundtrack/screenshot/concept art/etc). Before starting the game users, through a pool, give the initial amount of fiches based on which kind of bonus content they like to see. The game will be played and shown via webcast and the TT who wins make the bonus content released.
9) Benefic Lottery: each one who donate at least 1$ to TT hearth project will be entitled to a prize that will be extracted monthly (maybe a before-the-expected-release-review-copy)
10) The "make a cake for your friend" day: cook a cake related to TT games, dedicate it to a friend, post the photos and the best one will be entitled to a coupon to donate a game!

More support for fans of the original voice actors Bill Farmer and Nick Jameson, and their games. They've been placed at an unfair disadvantage for too long.

I also think that more information about the games, especially "behind the scenes" stuff, that really allows Friends of TellTale to feel a bit more like an insider.

Also, I really, really wish that TellTale would announce the release dates a little sooner. Some of us like to clear our schedules when a new game is about to be released, and can't do that with only a few days notice.

Occasional mock interviews with the characters. Maybe an occasional behind the scenes YouTube. Maybe some sort of scavenger hunt, that would reveal an early look at a teaser trailer (once you have one for Back to the Future or whatever is next on the agenda).

Also, try to dig up some outtakes from the various voice work recording sessions. Telltale games can't completely be devoid of stuff like that going down.

by reading some comments i have to say somthing, i protest xD, i really think the actual voice actors David Nowlin, and William Kastenare are the best sam and max, just perfect please please never change them for stiupid reazons like selling!!!,>:(, i really hate when people that just think things were beter just because they were used to other thing, or they knew them by the first time on other way. I have to remaind you guys that offtenly a lot of games traing to make fans happy with the stiupid and so intolerant to changes so coled" old school" make games suck , and this kaind of fans just get more inconformed when that hapends, the most of this people first time with sam and max hit the road was when they were kids, how mush of good acting voices actors did they could really knew when they got their impresions? but if you really focous on the acting work of bouth games, more than on what you knew first, you could relaize how superior are David Nowlin, and William Kastenare are as voice actors compared to Bill Farmer, and Nick Jameson, is so unfair :( for me David Nowlin" is Sam" and willian Kastenare, he can change so much hes voice, and take other character, in sush a diferent way and perspective, he is jurgen to, plus, bye naw David Nowlin and William Kastenare have been sam and max by more time than Bill Farmer, and Nick Jameson to know better the characters and give on them their own style, the last having to be a lot with the new personality of the characters, and the reazons of way we love them. im sorry im so intese xD i love this guys and i declare openly her big fan xD and i wish we could have more of behaind the scense with them, i think all the voice actors of the games need more credit on the telltale page. i hope my comment had a fool viwe, sorry for the bad english... :/

I personally wouldn't mind seeing some "Director's Commentary" type stuff - maybe a couple of scenes from this season of "Sam & Max" - similar to what has typically been on the season DVD sets.

Failing that - I do love to see behind the scenes type gear like concept art etc., so that type of thing would be my pick!

@gilau Well, you are partially right. Telltale shouldn't just hire the original actors for a stupid reason like selling.

They should hire them for a smart reason instead, like helping out the underprivileged. Remember, the original actors were ROBBED. The new actors WEREN'T.

Hmm... What about replying to every single comment... I'm sure that would be a good use of your time... Also telltale Sundays... you could come in around 8 and invent contests for us to participate in. Around noon, while the rest of us are in our underware, we will tell you they suck, and then demand to know when and if MI season 2 is going to be released. You can then pick a winner and then cry for the rest of the day... If you could do that on web cam that would be aces!

I would also like to remember you (see what I did there) that the lucasarts voice of Sam translated horribly into the 3D of freelance police.

Seriously, watch the trailer for it again, he does not sound right, he sounded much better in hit the road

No Bad Asp...let me explain you, you cant have some one on a profesional work for helping hem or , its not charity what a voice actor buissnes is, a actor shuld be on a plase because hes talent and because he do a good work, not because he was first, no one robbed on a profesional work, is just a thing of talent, even if Bill Farmer, and Nick Jameson louse their pleases on a casting of telltale for been late or somthing like that...[u]if that even happened because i dont know if they even care a bit on been the new voices of sam and max[u], David Nowlin, and William Kastenare shuld have been ther, for all this time because they were better for the roles when telltale heard them, again, my opinion is that [u]even if you knew one thing on some other way for the first time that dosent make it better...or fair to be on a please [u], what is fair on a voice actor is hiring the best, charity is not a reazon to chouse as the real unfair reazon for chousing a voice actor or any profesional work...

August 31, 2010, 12:17 pm
Gilau, the original actors were treated horribly. By LucasArts. During the entire time the voices for all sixteen episodes were recorded. LucasArts won't even hire them for their recent projects! They aren't in the Special Editions of Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2!

And the imitations of them in The City That Dares Not Sleep crossed the line.

Gilau, you need to realize what's actually going on. I know you like Nowlin and Kasten, but look at the big picture.
