And the Mystery Game Is: Poker Night at the Inventory
Posted by Alan September 2, 2010

Join The Heavy, Tycho, Max, and Strong Bad as you get a glimpse few get to lay their eyes on in Poker Night at the Inventory.

We teased you with our trailer last week and many of you guessed what the game would be - it was so hard to not just spill the beans.

Poker Night at the Inventory is more than just another poker title since the characters featured in the game have so much unique personality. Watching Max react to winning a hand and in turn The Heavy's gun is a sight to be seen. Anybody that knows Max can anticipate how he would react to acquiring such a perfect tool of destruction.

You'll be able to get your first look at Poker Night at the Inventory this weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo! Make your way over to the Telltale Games booth (#3509) and check out what we've been working on!

Pre-Order Poker Night at the Inventory now and receive 25% off additional purchases in the Telltale store.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa wait! That's it? I knew it'd be poker, with the guys, but that's all? Just these four? Come on! Bring on the rest of the gang! We have to have the classic bunch! Granny! Leonard! Sam! Wallace! Bone! Guybrush! Nelson! Heck, just throw in some of your staff for the fun of it (I know you're out there, Grossman)!

Are you implying Max is going to try to touch Sasha? I'd hate to be in the same room as the bloodbath that follows that.

Anyway, it looks funny and it's five dollars, so I think I'll be getting this soon. :D

Disappointing. Telltale Texas Hold'em part Deux.
I suppose it's a 5 player table with Tycho, Max, Heavy, Strong Bad and a mysterious character known as "the player"
Having played the original Hold'em, why should I buy this? Just to hear the "new" interactions that will become old after 3 or 4 games?
If only you could mix the table with the old guys, or extend the game with character packs/DLCs/add ons... it could be interesting, but right now it's just the same Hold'em with different characters.

Just preorded. Got some extra stuff, (SOMI:SE, W&G'S Grand Adventures, S&M Season 3 DVD and Poster Print (5) and Surfing The Highway) . I'll give it a go, may be fun to see Max waving a gun at a poker game. Then randomly firing it when he loses...

Dissapointing. I already knew it was a poker game, but only these four and that's it? I thought there were gonna be more telltale characters, and I hate Penny Arcade.

And do you expect people to pre-order it when there's absolutely no real info or screenshots? Seriously, I love Telltale's adventure games, but this one looks like it's being made for some easy money.

I'd say this is an interesting experiment from telltale trying to mix universes. It could become something more in the future.

@Enedok

I don't remember where I heard this, but this is supposedly the second game of Telltale's new "pilot program" (the first being Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent). So if it does well enough, who knows? We might see other, more in-depth crossovers in the future.

How well has Puzzle Agent sold, by the way? I'd buy it if the WiiWare release was here already. And I had money.

All the ungrateful people are hilarious. It's just a fun little side game while they work on Back to the Future and Jurassic Park. Would you rather have NOTHING until those games come out. I remember when Telltale started, they said they would have more games like Tell Tale Texas Hold 'em to fill in the gaps. Stop complaining, you people are too spoiled. It's $5.

Seems like a perfect vehicle for ongoing DLC upsell, which is why I'm confused about it not being on PSN, XBLA, or iPhone where in-game purchases are well-established.

I don't play games on my PCs, so I'll just be waiting for a console/iPhone version. That being said, it would be great to have branching tutorial dialogue for poker. I'm a big blackjack player, but never got into poker or learned the intricacies of it. Being extremely amused while learning expert poker strategy would be a huge win.

The 16 different possibilities for trash-talking (they can always trash-talk their own bad moves!) are a great plaform for comedy. To that end, it would be great to see Eddie from Brutal Legend and LeChuck from Tales of Monkey Island.

I don't know if it's possible, but it would awesome to see Miss Piggy from the Muppets. First, a female character would be most welcome. Second, that character has such great vocal mannerisms when it comes to anger. frustration, and being quite saccharine. In all, a great character to have in the poker game that can hold her own when it comes to trash-talking when she loses and reveling in her wins.

Not bad, but even if I do decide to buy this game & it does turn out to be funny even for people who aren't much into card games, there's one problem that makes me hesitant to fork over the dough: I don't know jack about poker.

I love the idea of a more readable poker game, having been playing on odds alone since Intellivision Poker, but please, please tell me there's going to be a game BESIDES Texas Hold 'Em.

I don't expect hi-low, indian, roll your own, etc., but maybe a 5/7 stud or a 5 card draw for a change? I've never been a big hold 'em fan to begin with, but the fact it's become the Twilight (aka, the only game of the type people know or care about) of the poker world isn't helping!

This kind of game would never hit WiiWare, probably due to Heavy and Tycho. That, and Nintendo likes to censor everything fun.
Comment by DanhagXI
September 4, 2010, 6:53 pm
Maybe in the old days, Dan, but the Wii has some seriously rough titles, even on Wiiware now. When things like Madworld and Manhunt 2 take main stage, a poker game with some cussing isn't a big deal for a download, I'm thinking.
