What Critics and Fans Are Saying About Jurassic Park: The Game [Updated]
Posted by Alan November 20, 2011

Jurassic Park: The Game has burst through the majestic entrance gates to Isla Nublar's wondrous biological preserve and is out in the wild. Fans of the classic Jurassic Park film are delighting in the game's nods to Steven Spielberg's cinematic masterpiece and we've collected some of their thoughts for you here!

Here's what some of them are saying:

Brutal Gamer:

"Telltale has produced one of the most interestingly designed adventure games I've ever played." - 4.5/5

Gamespot:

"The often conflicting motivations of these individuals give rise to a fascinating dynamic as they attempt to work together for survival even as they sometimes try to undermine each other's goals, and it's absorbing to see the ways in which they sometimes pose as much of a threat to each other and themselves as do the deadly predators romaing the island. Strong dialogue gets you invested in these people; warm banter between Gerry and Jess quickly gives you a sense of their history, for instance, and the idealogical arguments that flare up in the group help you understand what drives characters to take certain desperate actions, even when you object to those actions."

Gamercast:

"Jurassic Park: The Game is a fantastic addition to the Jurassic Park franchise...the style suits the fast pace of the game brilliantly." - 4/5

GamePro:

"the script, characters, and pacing are everything I could hope for from a Jurassic Park follow-up"

Adventure Gamers:

"The game does a great job of hooking itself into the Jurassic Park mythos, feeling like a natural extension of the film...The writing is solid, if not remarkable, with likable, fleshed-out characters"

Gamespy:

"The greatest strength of Jurassic Park: The Game is its writing, and Telltale has outdone itself with characters that develop along with the Lombard Street-like twists and turns of the storyline. Every character in the game has traits that are good, bad, and somewhere in-between, and they all come out as you fight for your lives on an island filled with dinosaurs hell-bent on making you lunch."

Jurassic Park Legacy:

"Telltale Games has really shown their love for the series with this game. The attention to detail proves that you can still make entertaining stories from the JP franchise and that most of all the fans will enjoy it as long as the writing and the attention to detail are there." - 9.9/10

Cinema Blend:

"Jurassic Park: The Game has the best and most engaging “end boss battle” in recent memory. It showcases the best parts of the game and serves as a perfect ending. The one last frantic dinosaur encounter really captured the magic of the movie."

Pocket Gamer:

"It feels like Jurassic Park. Perhaps closer to its source material than any of the point-and-click studio's previous adventures. The presentation is top-notch too, with a strong atmosphere, great voice acting, and gorgeously rendered dinos."

Flesh Eating Zipper:

"Some of my favorite moments included subtle call backs from the first film. It honestly felt as if a camera crew got lost from the rest of the production company and decided to film the last stragglers on the park." - 4/5

The Telltale community has also been roaring about Jurassic Park: The Game! Here's what a couple of them have been saying in the forums:

Beavermatic:

"The attention to detail of everything within the park and the dinosaurs themselves... right down to atmosphere and environment, was simply stunning. Everything breathes life as it should, and everything just as we left it back in 1993."

Fluxing1955:

"This was worth the wait and I never thought I'd say it but, it's your best game to date and you have done the Jurassic Park fans a service with this game."

yeah i tried , i bought it! 50€ in the toilet
graphic is horible, gameplay is copy and paste from heavy rain without the same concentration about the plot. this game can be supported by a ps2 o gamecube!
the game from telltale can rest wher they are.
they only want that some spanish or italian fan make the translation by himself for free and sell the not-localized-game in spain and italy... good job guys, how much you payd for translate the subtitles in french? 200€? my college teacher can transalte all the dialogues of this game for one coffe during oe wek end meybe less!

... I will start with the negative in saying I'm really not a fan of quick-time event action....

.. but having said that I do think this game is awesome! - The original JP is one of my favourite films and I agree with all the comments saying that you have captured that feeling perfectly in the game. Particularly enjoyed how well some of the original locations have been recreated (The recreation of the scene of Nedry's demise springs to mind!) - Well done on a great game!

Ah, you are talking about subtitles. Fair enough, that should be affordable. You've got a point there. Especially spanish should reach a large audience. Which of the games did you play? The graphics aren't top notch, but that isn't the goal of a game like monkey island. The originals weren't like that either. They did catch the atmosphere and story telling though.

I see no review in any of the gamesites I know, and from the above I only ever heard from gamespy.

Doesnt telltale give out free review copies before release?

Try www.ign.com... and see what they gave this game... this game is a real disappointment. I would love the idea of roaming Jurassic Park, but why didnt they take a lesson from Skyrim? When does anyone these days play QTEs when there are games like Skyrim with "true" free roaming, not some railway track gameplay. Also let down by what ign has said about the game meaning I will be spending my money somewhere else. I just hope they bring out a Jurassic Park game that's worth it... such a shame :(

I just finish the game, I think the stories fits in the Hollywood blockbuster's schema, and the graphic engine is just fine (it seem good on all platforms), some IK animations on humans don't fit, the dinosaurs moves fantastic. I think the aproche that other companies are using such a tearical interaction betwen actors, make voice acting more convincing, instead of just MoCa.

The Streaming engine, needs a serious optimization cause sometimes: the actions fits, the voice acting fits and the animations gets cut by the streaming engine.

I say if you are a fan of dinosaurs, Jurassic Park, or TelltaleGames this game is a 8/10.

I'm anxious about the collectors edition, the stuff that is in the pack looks amazing.

It is absolutely pathetic the way Telltale tries to cherry pick it's reviews. Especially for this game when major gaming sites are giving it poor reviews. Pay no attention what's going on behind the curtain!

Yonk, no company is going to put bad reviews of their title on their page. Seriously, do you know a company that doesn't "cherry pick" reviews of products for their own site?

I LOVED this game!! It had a great story, good voice acting, and the action sequences were very intense. The only thing that bothered me was almost every action sequence would freeze or skip. I got this game for the Xbox 360 am I the only one that happened to? Any ways great game hope to see a second one!!

@edwr

Christ, does everything have to be compared to Skyrim? They are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Some people don't even LIKE Skyrim's open world. I prefer linear games because the story usually benefits from it.

If I want to make my own decisions I'll play Skyrim. If I want to watch an interactive movie I'll play some other game. I'm playing Skyrim, and it's a good game, but I don't get why so many people get a hard on for rails-free games.

Next people will be asking why Starcraft II's expansion doesn't have an open world.

Funny how you didn't include the IGN review or any of the other sub-par reviews in your blog. Look, if you want to learn from your previous work and make future games better, read the the honest reviews. JP is a good game, but not as perfect as some of these reviews make it out to be.

I love all the characters in this game except for Dr.Sorkin.Her character is an idiot and just blah.I love the rest,Nima being my favorite character, but it was just glorious to see Dr.Sorkin getting eaten by a Mosasaurus. The graphics look better than your previous games. The only complaint I have with this game is cramming a drug-free lesson into this game where Jess steals cigarettes. It was a little cheesy but the rest of the game dialog was a smooth road with a bump in the road. All in All, the game is pretty good but not as bad as people say.Screw you,Greg Miller, this is an amazing game that Telltale has made and they brought back my childhood. So I give this game a 4.5/5.

.. I have now completed JP...

I think the comparison to skyrim is slightly crazy - clearly this is not intended to be a similar game or compete in that market. The story stands well as a continuation to the original plot and that is mainly why I enjoyed it so much - some of the point and click 'set-pieces' (If that's the right way of phrasing it) work really well (ie. I like being able to move between the different character's POV and the puzzles have that classic telltale feel) but there really weren't enough of these. I don't really see why you guys pushed so hard to try and make this an action game, I would really have been happy watching the action without the furious key tapping if the point and click areas were more expansive.

It really is a shame as the acting, plot and characters work so well - Know your audience telltale, we like point and click so stick to that, let the skyrim's of the world carry the action!

As for the flow of the story, the game is REALLY WELL DONE! Well written and acted out. Believable in a way ANY Jurassic Park fan will 'feel they're are there'. Now for the bad... Yes, this is a video game, so... As I've said, I've purchased both the Windows PC version and the iPad2 version. Note, I could install it to my MacBook, but I am not as that computer is reserved for other things. The first thing all players will notice is the snagging of the visuals. It is bad, but a fan like myself, didn't mind. Why? We're in Jurassic Park! I say that now, but on iPad2, it is bothersome. I viewed a part that snagged on the PC, but played on the iPad2 and it was just GREAT! The iPad2's controls are 'touchy', but is it is portable and enjoyable - again, I am a fan of Jurassic Park. Saying this is an 'interactive movie' means that obviously that person who gave that review did not play Phantamagoria (PC), Dragon's Lair (Any Medium), Space Ace (Any Medium), Ground Zero Texas (Sega CD) or Braindead 13 (Any Medium) and many many other 'interactive movies'. Granted players can not freely traverse the island, that is not a bad thing. Maybe next time Telltale will allow such? Maybe, maybe not.

Thanks Telltale, you did a MAGNIFICENT job.As close as you will get to seeing dinosaurs until they clone them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrg4BaIdcSo

I just watched my character fall down a cliff like a rag doll over and over again because the game thought I didn't hit the button at the exact right time without giving any clear indication of when I'm supposed to hit it. If I wanted an inconsistent cinematic button masher I'd play Indigo Prophecy and destroy another controller. At least that game had nudity.

Seriously, I expected a lot more from this.

please hear me. now if your not a huge fan of JP this will be a disappointment. but i have read both books and seen all the moives and to me this was VERY good. This is like an interactive movie rather than a true "game"- treat it as such and you will probably enjoy it. If you are not a huge fan dont play it. but dont bash on it for being what it is, its different, but i thourohghky enjoyed it.

I think if telltale could ever make a sequel, they should improve a lot for the public eye. make it more accessable. But if this is it then i enjoyed it as it was and am glad to have played it.

I guess the best way you could improve it is to mix the normal adventure mode interactivity, harder challenges (e.g. Sam and Max, ToMI) and if you want to keep the QTE's, keep them in cutscenes. Other than that, I can't wait for the next visit to Jurassic Park!

I would love to see a lost in space game, based either on the series or the last lost in space movie, and / or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lost world based game maybe either on the tv series,or how about a adams family game, or a Munsters based game too , just for if you need any new ideas on games, but maybe a few of these titles would also make good games
or how about a classic winnie the pooh game too, like the sam and max but based off either the books or the disney tv version, or based off welcome to pooh corner tv series, which seems like it got lost in time

This has got to be the biggest pile of crap ever. Way bigger than jeff goldblum standing in front of a big pile of sh*t in the first movie. I bought this game thinking it would be really cool but it turned out to be utterly LAME. if you like games that put you to sleep and have no action that you can't control except for waiting for your controller to pop up in the game to tell you what to press. Wow utterly LAME this game should be more like King Kong where you can be a human and dinosaur. But no you guys had to make this pile of crap and sell it. The build up to the dinosaurs are just soo lame I hate the fact that I have to speak spanish to this lady and I have no idea how to speak Spanish. You guys really hit out of the ball park with this crap but wait it was a fly ball that just got caught by the catcher.
