Okay, EFMI is somewhat known as the black sheep of the series, but I actually really enjoyed the game. I want to see if anyone agrees with what I really loved about it. I loved how the game started out with something very simple, an election for governor, obtaining a deed for a mansion, and a villain buying up the Caribbean. But as you go on, the plot gets much more complicated and everything that seems to be apart plot-wise are all connected in one big conspiracy.
I love that type of storytelling and it makes certain things in the beginning make more sense once you know what happens. Everything that seemed random and a coincidence was actually all part of a plot of take over the Caribbean. Tales of Monkey Island is doing the same thing. They are taking what appears to be a very simple quest and story and making it much more complicated by putting in all these twists and sub-plots, very good move indeed. EFMI had a lot of issues, but the the story and how it was structured was a great part for me.
The one thing I HATED about the game was what they did with LeChuck. LeChuck never looked more pure evil and powerful in that game in his demonic form. But I hated how our favorite villain got put in a back-seat for an old man with a cane with a duck engraved in the handle. I thought the game would've been much better had Ozzie been working for LeChuck and not vice versa. Although I guess it really wouldn't have made that much of a difference. I hope Tales does something very great with LeChuck and hope he remains the main threat.
Those are my thoughts. I actually loved EFMI (although I already like Tales better) and a lot of the story helped with that. What made me really hate certain parts of the game was LeChuck going from superior to lackey.
