Help Wanted making Old Testament Point and Click

posted by andygeers on - last edited - Viewed by 175 users

I'm a long time Monkey Island/LucasArts fan, ever since I started playing Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders back on my friend's 286 in the 80s. As a professional software developer, it's long been my ambition to make my own Point and Click adventure game.

About five years ago I came up with an idea for making such a game based around a passage from the Old Testament, as a means of teaching what it's all about and how it's relevant to today (whilst still having that Monkey Island style sense of humour!) I've got pretty far in terms of fleshing out a story and puzzles, and am currently about half way through sketching a very rough mock-up using the Unity game engine.

But I could really use a collaborator! My script-writing skills are pretty limited, as are my art skills. It's a pretty niche kind of project, so finding someone to help is proving pretty difficult, but I figured that there just might be someone crazy enough to be interested hanging out here on these forums!

If you're interested, there's more information on my website: http://www.geero.net/bible-games.html

  • Neat idea. I would love to help, but i have no experiance in programming what so ever, and due to a slight disability, lack the fine motor skills required to draw. Anyways, i wish you all the best with your project!

  • In some ways a person who is good at coming up with puzzles/dialogue would be more helpful than another programmer. Don't know if you fall into that category?

Unfortunately, i don't think i do. I'm sure there willm be plenty of other people who would be willing to join. I have got one puzzle you can use though. Ever heard of the river crossing riddle? heres an example

  • Use light on everything..
Look to see that it is good.

  • @Irishmile said: Use light on everything..
Look to see that it is good.

Look at quarterly bill to see that it is not good.

Sorry, couldn't resist injecting something of Spike Milligan.

A point-and-click adventure game wouldn't work for some parts of the original material, which tend to deviate towards strategy gaming in terms of appropriate genre. Anyone up for Canaan: Total War?

  • Here's a little YouTube video giving a bit of explanation:

I think you can stay well within the point and click genre if you pick your passages carefully. I'm by no means attempting to do the WHOLE Old Testament in one game!
