Which game do you think is the funniest in the series and has the best voice acting and why?

The Secret Of Monkey Island(yes I know, no voice acting in the original and number 2, but thare are in the newly released versions)

Monkey Island 2: Lechuck Revenge

The Curse Of Monkey Island

Escape from Monkey Island

Tales Of Monkey Island(all 5 seasons, which I consider a whole game)

List them in order, so the first is the funniest in your opinion and state your reasons.

  • Curse Of monkey Island
    Escape
    Tales
    SMI
    MI2:LR

Part of that is probably becuase Curse and escape were the first two I'd played, and have a different humour style to the originals. Plus, through refferences, and discussion on forums, I had most of the jokes on the first two ruined for me.

Tales was pretty funny aswell, but not as funny as Curse/Escape, for me. Close call between Escape and Tales though.

  • Escape
    Curse
    Tales
    Secret
    Revenge

But I think all of them are the funniest games ever!

  • I think Tales is the funniest game I know, especially in Chapter 4. Curse is the second funniest as well.

  • Strictly in terms of comedy I would rate them as follows:

    Escape
    Tales
    Revenge
    Curse
    Secret

When was Tales seasons 2-5 out? All I remember is Tales Season one being released which consisted of 5 chapters.

  • Oh, he meant "all 5 chapters"! Of course Tales of Monkey Island is one season so far... We hope for more as soon as possible..

  • 1.Curse
    2.Tales
    3.Lechuck's Revenge
    4.Escape
    5.Secret

Curse stands out for me as the funniest mainly because of the cartoony style of it, which is the style of humour I tend to lean towards more. The game cracks me up on almost every screen, and that says something to me about how funny the game is. Tales falls shortly behind, what with all the map jokes and "like a volcano!" it is also really funny. Lechuck's Revenge to me is made funny mainly due to the facial expressions guybrush has towards certain things in the game. That game is a lot more serious, but it's still really funny to me. Escape is still funny in some parts, but overall isn't really a laugh-a-minute affair like the other 3. I put Secret last because I actually found it less funny than any of the games, although Escape is my least favourite game in the series.

  • First two games weren't intended to be "funny", but they were atmospheric alright, complete with some lines here and there, breaking the atmosphere in hilarious fashion.

I never played Curse or Escape, but Tales is REALLY funny.

  • 1. Tales
    2. Curse
    3. Escape
    4. Revenge
    5. Secret

I'm still impressed that Tales managed to be both the funniest and possibly darkest game in the series.

  • 1. Curse
    2. Tales
    3. Secret
    4. Escape
    5. LeChuck's Revenge

Curse was my first MI game and it just hit so many high points that I honestly couldn't rank it any lower. The voice acting, art style and puzzles had me chuckling just about every time I did something ("You fool, you just gave cheese to a lactose intolerant Volcano God!" is the one line that I remember most, probably because I'll randomly shout it during lulls in conversations). Tales ranks slightly lower, but it did hit a great mix of comedy and serious plot.

Secret, the insult swordfighting and the whole governor's mansion thing just slays me every time, but the slogging through the woods bit and the hike through the caverns of Monkey Island drags it down for me. Escape was actually quite funny and I'll readily admit I enjoyed it, but it did feel like the game lost focus at points. LeChuck's Revenge ranks last because it always felt like the most serious Monkey Island game to me for some reason, though I know Tales' content is much darker in places.
