Confirmed: German dubbing and French subtitles (page 2)!

Just because one person at TTG offered his personal experiences, indicates in no way that the whole industry works this way. Put me on the opposite list where i worked on several projects where this worked out fine, once we found the right people.

Again with the right priority this can be done.

I find it kind of a questionable style closing threads in such a way. It has a bit of teenagers are moderating this forum, lacking experience and tolerance.

Yeah it would just make the game twice heavier. >_>

    Salut à toi ! ^_^

  • It's a shame that they didn't get the real German voice actors.
I like Bernd Vollbrecht, but he just isn't Doc.
And I don't even know the other guy. :D

I'll contribute to the discussion, and I would like to respond at length to Laserschwert's complaint, but it's just the wrong time for it now. And as I won't be able to play the episode till the 29th, that's about the time I'll comment. ;)

  • It seems like the German voices for Doc and Marty will be Bernd Vollbrecht (Dr. Cox from "Scrubs" and Antonio Banderas) and Dirk Stollberg. And while both of them are good voice actors, it's still a bad move by Telltale and a waste of money (which wasn't enough in the first place), as it makes the German dub absolutely pointless.

Will more German people be tempted to buy the game, knowing it has a German dub? For sure. Will they feel nostalgic when hearing those new voices? Hardly...

A lot of the love for BTTF stems from its nostalgia, and here in Germany being nostalgic about movies has a lot to do with their German dubs. And this is especially true with an actor like MJF, who - since the first BTTF - got Sven Hasper affixed to him as a voice actor, who from then on voiced him in basically everything he did (including the BTTF radio plays and even the cartoon series). And since the game is supposed to be a direct continuation of the movies, doesn't this require continuity?

I don't get it... with all the care taken by Telltale to be as true to the movies as possible (getting Lloyd, going all the way to find a dead-on voice-double for Fox, securing rights to use actor likenesses...) and FINALLY attempting a multilingual release on their own, they drop the ball that easily?

    1) The part about nostalgia, it's the same for EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY

    2) So is Mj Fox's dub in other countries

    3) An adventure game is always better when there's a dub, sure you won't have the nostalgia part but adventure games newbies will be able to find it more accessible.

Also, if they could get professional voice actors, why are the "official" (from the movies) so expensive ?

  • Well, it wouldn't be the first time they changed the German voice of Doc. About Marty, we'll see. I wonder if they talked to Thomas Petruo (Biff), too. Did you know that his father actually did German Darth Vader in the original trilogy? Now THAT's someone you'd want on board...

  • I've got a question ... does Majus have a role or at least a cameo in the German dub?

  • BTW, I did try to apply for a bit part in the German dub via eMail to Telltale, but to no avail. Guess it got scooped up by their spam filter. Heck, I'd be doing this for free! You read me? :)
