OMG FINALLY.

MechWarrior is coming back as a free-to-play online persistent universe. Which is awesome enough, but it also sounds like the developers are want to make sure that light 'Mechs are important too, which is totally true to the original BattleTech source material but never really shaped up in the earlier games. I'm freakin' stoked. I can't wait to get back into a Catapult and slag some Capellans. I hate Capellans! :D

  • I'm sure all clan tech is going to be pay2win. Since clan tech is so much more better then everyone elses tech.

  • They've said that nothing that nothing that you pay for will give you an advantage on the battlefield. Whether or not that's entirely true remains to be seen, I wouldn't be surprised if you can access some stuff earlier with cash, but we'll see. Although the game takes place prior to the Clan invasion, so it sounds like everyone will be on even Inner Sphere-technology footing.

  • They've confirmed it'll have microtransactions. If you're doing MechWarrior/Battle tech you know Clan Tech is god like. Ofcourse MT will be Clan Tech. Everyone will have fair Innersphere except those who dontate.

  • Except... they've said that nothing that you pay for will give you a tactical advantage on the battlefield. And getting Clan tech would be a pretty big tactical advantage. :P

Plus, as I said, it takes place prior to the Clan invasion. The Clans will be some big update a year or two down the road, probably.

  • I'm looking forward to this game. Tribes and now Mechwarrior...I'm in heaven.

  • I only played one MechWarriors game for the PC and I loved it. I liked the interrior view from within the Mech and how sometimes you could overheat your Mech and it would shut down for a few seconds to cool off. You could also shoot off Mech's arms and stuff like that. You would get different jobs to take down different Mech's to get money to buy more upgrades for your own Mechs.

It was realistic for it's time that's for sure. If the new one is like that but online then I think I'll enjoy it. Anyword on a console version btw? Or just PC?

PC only, and so far they're planning to keep that awesome interior from-the-'Mech view. And don't worry about shooting off arms and overheating and stuff. It wouldn't be MechWarrior/BattleTech without blasting your opponent's machine to pieces and watching your heat the whole time. :D Some of the lead designers working on this worked on the original BattleTech tabletop game back in the day, so I'm expecting it to be very true to the fiction. (IE: Not like MechAssault) No word yet on what kind of missions you'll be on, how upgrading 'Mechs works, etc.

The thing that excites the BattleTech nerd in me most is that they've said they want to make sure lighter 'Mechs stay useful, as opposed to players only using them until they can get their hands on a heavy or assault 'Mech. Supposedly information control is going to be a big deal, so having quick scouts could be a necessity. Whether they really manage it remains to be seen, but I really like what they're talking about. In the BattleTech fiction, 'Mechs of all sizes were important on the battlefield, and the earlier games (except maybe MechCommander) never really accomplished that.

  • Well, that sounds awesome. I hope my computer will be able to play it though. The only online game I actually played on here was World of Warcraft with ran fine. But WOW isn't really heavy on the graphics. My graphics card sucks so i can't play some games. And it's a laptop so can't change it.
