Question about controllers for Virtual Console

posted by Chyron8472 on - last edited - Viewed by 89 users

I like playing classic games on my Wii. However, I find that the button layout of the GameCube controller is a bit weird and would rather use something like a Wii Classic Controller Pro. The catch with that is, I want to use controllers that don't require messing with batteries--which means plugging a wired controller into the Wii's Gamecube port.

Is there an adapter any of you are aware of that enables plugging in a Wii Classic Controller to the Gamecube ports?

What controllers and adapters do you use to play classic games on modern consoles?

  • I know there IS such a thing. Getting your hands on it is another matter. Amazon has a couple wii adapters for the SNES controller to Gamecube port.

  • What kind of games do you play? There are adapters out there to plug an actual SNES controller into a gamecube port. I've always liked that concept but never got around to buying one.

For Wii I just use the classic controller pro plugged into a Wii remote. I've never really considered batteries to be a major issue, but that may be tied to the fact that my attention span is so short compared to the battery life.

I suppose a SNES controller adapter could work. I was considering the Classic Controller Pro because it would be newer and thus less worn from use over time. It also would match the appearance of my console. I'm just not hot on having to switch between Wiimotes when one of them complains about low battery--Wired controllers never have to be recharged.

I'm still curious as to what the rest of you do for playing virtual console games.

  • I used the Classic Controller. I only bought the first two Donkey Kong Countries though.

  • Turn the Wiimote on its side.

  • Use an actual SNES/N64/Megadrive.

    Or the arcade machine.

    Or even a handheld. (Caanoo/PSP/3DS)

I have a classic controller (regular) and it sucks!
Just poorly designed. Couldn't even make a cable long enough to be comfortable.

Wiimotes are odd to hold sideways sometimes...

Gamecube controllers are weird for emulation.

I gave up on emulation on the Wii.
I'd rather just use my soft-modded xbox and play with a controller S than play virtual console stuff on the Wii again!

Out of the current gen stuff. The 360 controllers the best. I use that on the PC (with a wireless adapter), for a lot of things, and I can comfortably play a game on the sofa.
(HDMI'd out to the TV! :D).

  • It depends on the game. I use GameCube mostly. But I'll use the Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro if it suits me. For SNES games I'll always use Classic Controller. N64 games I'll use the GameCube controller. But I haven't touched the Virtual Console in ages. I haven't actually touched my Wii since Christmas time playing Skyward Sword.
