What platform should I get this on?

I've been falling out of love with TTG since The Devil's Playhouse. I didn't like what I saw/played of BTTF and JP, plus zombies and comic books aren't my thing, so I was planning on passing on TWD.

After a near-constant stream of hearing nice things (tm) about it, I've finally cracked. I am going to play The Walking Dead.

Problem is, since my last Telltale purchase, I've bought a PS3 and an iPad 2. So the question arises: should I get TWD for good old PC, iOS or Playstation? Are there any big differences in gameplay, performance or price?

(For example, Wallace and Gromit, Monkey Island and Devil's Playhouse were clearly made with a gamepad in mind and might even play better on a console than with a mouse/keyboard.)

  • I would suggest PC if you have a fast PC and a good video card, if not, go with the PS3. The iPad should be your last choice unless you really need the game to be portable.

I play on the PC but I use an xbox controller instead of keyboard/mouse. I prefer playing it with a controller.

For you I say PC on Steam with a MS Gamepad.

In Europe the release of TWD on PSN has been a week or two behind North America, so by the time you get play ep 5 it'll likely be spoiled to hell. The TTG release of TWD seems to have been delayed about a week from Steam too.

iOS is a whole episode behind due to being released about 3 months later than other plaforms. iOS only got ep 3 this week, whereas ep 4 was released about 2 weeks ago on most other platforms (EU PSN excepted).

Unless your PC doesn't meet the requirements of course, but if this was the case I doubt you'd be asking for advice.

  • I too would suggest pc but only if it has lots of memory (eg 350gb). If not, choose ps3 or Xbox. In my opinion get it on an iOS device because it is portable and EXACTLY the same as pc, ps3 etc. I play it on my iPhone 4 (32 gb) and it is superbly brilliant and with out doubt, the best game I ever played. But again, only if you have lots of memory (eg 32 or 64gb). What ever you want to get it on, you HAVE to get this game.

Have to correct this, it's usually just a matter of some hours difference excepting the first episode which was delayed on here due to a technical problem.

Cheers. I'd just seen complaints from TTG users here that we complaining about delays so I assumed it was substantial!

  • If you blatantly hate minor bugs, buy the ios version. Be prepared for a hard use of controls. If you prefer controls over bugs, I'd buy the pc version.

  • I'd get it for the PC so it's easier to back everything up. From what I hear, save glitches ruin everything. Nothing's happened with my game that isn't a quick fix though.

Was Sam and Max Season 3 the start of the bad experience, or was that your last enjoyable experience? (I loved 3 and liked BttF and JP enough).

  • Get it on PS3 so far only one issue with corrupted data but that was patched and I backed up my data to the cloud. Plus never had a download issue, was slow to download EP 3 but other then that everything is great in game.

  • Get it for PS3. I didn't like the play style on PC. Making dialog choices on gamepad is much more pratical and easier IMO.

  • Thanks for the responses. I got it on PS3 yesterday (because I don't have a PC gamepad) and having a blast with it. Played through episode 1 yesterday and episode 2 today. Good show, Telltale!

Now my main concern is whether to play episodes 3 and 4 right away and wait what will seem like forever for ep5, or savor the experience and only play one episode every weekend...
