Refund Please! (or maybe a fix after ALL this time?)

Just from a quick browse, I can see just a huge amount of the same save issue. It seems that the only thing I've seen from Telltale to address this is something along the lines of *shrug* "Just reload over and over and over and maybe it will work." That is not a valid solution to me.
I just bought the game over Xbox Live, and finished Chapter 1. I loved it so far, and I was excited to continue. However, when I chose 'continue' and selected Chapter 2, it would bring me back to the last scene of Chapter 1 every time, no matter how many times I exited to main menu, exited the game, copied the save files, replayed the WHOLE thing, or even tried to just re-finish the last scene.
You accept awards and my money, but you won't fix something as simple as this?? I mean, the whole point of the game is that it changes depending on your choices! Choosing random choices to start each new chapter works...but it doesn't save my choices, so I have no interest in continuing.
In other words, I demand a refund. It seems that there is no way to directly contact Telltale, and I'm sure they will ignore this as well, but it is ridiculous to treat your paying customers this way.

  • I bought my copy through a retail outlet and it had the same problem of not allowing playing episodes 2-5. I returned the disc, exchanged it for a new one and the same problem...obviously the odds say a patch is required as all the episodes state they are installed. Does anyone have the answer?

  • As far as I've seen, there is no answer. It's sad, this game has been getting released for a long time now, and I thought I'd be safe buying it as late as yesterday. Wrong!
And Telltale is certainly remaining quiet. I think they're too busy counting their money to bother with addition 'testing' or adding 'patches'. They're going to be really surprised at how much less money they make with next season after treating us like this. (they'll still probably make plenty though)

  • So, after the whole fiasco after the Episode 3 glitches, I sworn myself off of Telltale products, because if I've eaten two delicious pieces of steak, just to find out that the third has a razor blade, why would I continue eating?

I saw that episodes 2-5 were 50% off, so I said to myself "Well, if I was ever going to give Telltale my money for a broken game, I might as well do it when it's on sale. Besides, the game still couldn't be a terrible, broken mess, could it?". I decided that out of the kindness of my tiny black heart I would try again and buy the final two episodes.

Lo and behold, not only is my save completely gone, but I can't even access episode 4 because every single time I do, the game kicks me back to episode 1.

At this point, I just want someone to refund all 1600 MS points I spent on this sham of a game.

  • i bought the game at Target and they won't give me a refund, they just told me to go get another copy, i ended up just going home lol. i'm going back on monday with someone to raise hell and maybe...hopefully i'll get a refund or at least credit

  • My credit card would refund this purchase? I find that hard to believe. But I guess that would be easier than going through Telltale, since they seem to not care about user issues. I mean, lots of games have glitches, and I usually just laugh at them, or shake my head. But this is a game-breaker. I can't play the next episodes without going random choices. Defeats the purpose.
Have to say, good call on their part letting us only 'communicate' with them on forums, where they can ignore us completely.

By law the credit card company must reverse any transaction that you feel is invalid.

However, keep in mind that means Telltale Games (or Steam or Microsoft, or Sony, etc) retain the option to pursue action to compel you to pay.

That is, they have a transaction logged where you agreed to terms and conditions, then they can claim you legally owe them for that transaction. And if you continue to refuse to pay they can seek damages or send you to collections. If these companies do not feel like pursuing your money then you don't have any other problems.

The credit card company simply steps out of the transaction and leaves you and whomever you owe the opportunity to sort it out.

I believe if you do this enough (that is there is grounds that people think you are defrauding merchants with the credit card system) then you personally will be hit with lower credit scores or black marks on your history.

So it's up to you if it's worth the risk and whether you feel justified based on the legalese you agreed to when you downloaded the game and paid money/credits.

I actually hope some lawyer takes up a class action suit against Telltale or Microsoft/Sony. This is because The Walking Dead clearly does not pass their intended level of quality and certification. Microsoft/Sony have violated their promise where the games you receive from them will be playable and of an expected level of quality.

Xbox live has an "indie section" which clearly contains questionable quality games and broken artifacts. But the regular Xbox Live Arcade should not have unplayable buggy messes.

The class action would also absolve the individuals from the risk of their individual stop-payments since the decision would be binding and would compel TTG/Microsoft/Etc to provide payment to affected customers.

  • Yeah...probably not worth all that trouble just for $20. But I certainly won't be buying any more games from Telltale. Sad, because I was looking forward to season 2 of this game (before reaching the glitch, that is).
But I definitely agree. If this was an 'indie' game, then I would just write it off to not enough budget or something. But this game has won awards, and was advertised a lot, so it should definitely have a fix for something as central to the game as the decision mechanic.

I wouldn't "raise hell." Try honey first... If that doesn't work, then ask to speak to a manager.

Try explaining to them that the problem isn't the copy that you have, but the game itself.

Refer to the support forum on this website and tell them a lot of people are having the same problems and that the company has provided at least two patches, which haven't solved the problems.

Just ask for store credit; don't push for a refund.

    Good luck!

  • Yeah I won't be buying anymore Telltale games either....and I too was really enjoying the episode and a half that I got to play and I was so excited that we might get another one of these every year or two. But not with this kind of customer service. This game came out on the 11th, it's past Christmas now and still no fix. This was my Christmas present. I waited for the retail disc because it's not easy for me to get on Xbox Live and now you have to go online to get a patch (whenever they release it). Every game has glitches, but these are game breaking issues. I feel like I got a $30 coaster.

  • The 11th is how far back this was released? Damn, that's a while. Especially when you consider they were releasing episodes one at a time well before then. Definitely with you on no more Telltale games purchases. They're losing a few hundred customers with this glitch, and that's just what I can tell from this forum, not to mention those who don't say anything.
Oh, and ghost_matt, don't worry about getting online. I always am online when I play, and it still doesn't work. Any patches I've installed have done exactly nothing, which is super helpful. So don't worry about getting online until they put out a patch that...I don't know, DOES something.
