Kenny saving Christa:Pointless?

So Kenny's sacrifice for Christa was in my opinion POINTLESS. It was a good way for Kenny to go, and was a pretty good scene, but it was for the walkie talkie. The thing is they didn't use the talkie for the rest of the game. You could argue "well it could be used for the future." Well Lee finds the kidnapper, and ends up killing him, but the thing is: they could have taken the kidnappers talkie, and bam! You have the talkie back, just a little different...

If the stranger ended up moving Clementine somewhere else within the city, then the group would be screwed. The walkie talkie was the only source they had for finding Clementine, and Lee's time was running out. The choice was either leave it and hope and pray that the stranger stays put, or get it back to ensure you'll have a great chance of knowing where she is. That risk was too great to take.

  • ^I thought that too, but how would the stranger get out WITH Clementine? There were hordes and hordes of walkers out there, and some of the group died even on the rooftops xD.

Also, Lee leaves the walkie-talkie or if he never gave it up dies with it, so it is lost :P.

I find it stupid in general that Lee took it out to tell the Stranger THEY WERE COMING. That and Kenny slaps it out of his hand.

Anyway, the worst of the two would be Kenny's "sacrifice" for Ben, considering the kid was dead, and there were other ways to do that without Kenny dying.
1.)Drag Ben's body with the rail to the gate and lock it behind them, enabling them to remove the rail or at least shoot him in the head and keep his body from getting eaten.
2.)Just shoot him. So much easier.
3.)Leave him. He was dead anyway. I wouldn't like that option though...
And possibly other ways if we had a clearer sight of the alley.

Yeah...that's still not a strong enough argument for "immediately jumping into dark likely not-abandoned building with no way out for something we may or may not need." That scene really bothered me because Christa, outside of when Omid was in danger, was usually one of the most careful members in the group. Her just blindly jumping into somewhere dangerous for something that they may not necessarily need came off very out of character.

Had she say, found a rope tied to the scaffolding and she threw it down with her and it broke when she tried to get out, or there was a ladder down there that breaks when she uses it, or while their debating it the radio cackles and they hear Clementine's voice, or anything to make Christa look less careless, it wouldn't be so bothersome.

Or, failing that, It'd be nice if just anything came of that damn radio. It just feels like a waste that didn't do anything else with the radio. Like if the scene where Clementine is sneaking up on the stranger, you can look at the radio and instead of clubbing him with it she uses it to call the stranger's radio on the desk and distracts him. Or in the final scene Lee gives her the radio, tells her to look for more survivors, or just to listen in on possible threats or whatever the player wants to say. Just something.

Also from sentimental point of view I wish Clementine kept the radio. It was her parents, and it had those stickers Ben gave her on it. And I wish she had kept that gun Ben picks up in episode five. It was Lee's and it was possibility's Carley before that. I'd like to think she had some items that were both useful and served as mementos of her fallen friends and family. Instead all Clem has at the end to remember anyone by is a couple of hairbands from that bitch Lilly and possibly a gore smeared hoodie that belong to the son of the man who kidnapped her. :(

At least with Kenny we knew he wasn't entirely in his right mind with his wife shooting herself, his son dying, losing the boat, his (possibly best) friend being bitten. Poor guy was a train wreck. Plus he had been drinking a lot in the last three episodes. Wait a minute, Christa chugged a shitload whiskey just before the radio scene. Oh, well forget all that other shit I wrote. Christa was probably just kinda drunk when she decided to jump down there. :p

  • It makes more sense than the Ben scene. Christa had been drinking, and she and Omid were really concerned for Clem. So she jumped down for the radio, which at the time was their only lifeline to Clem. I didn't want to leave it, because for all we knew Clem may have already been moved. The radio was still important. Kenny was the one who said they didn't need it. So when he went down there, knowing that it was a one way trip, to save Christa, he probably didn't give a fuck about the radio. He was going down to save Christa, walkie be damned. His death [?] wasn't pointless, he saved Christa and her unborn child.

I just wish the radio had been used afterward too. Or given to Clem as something to remember Lee by. Would've made the ending slightly less devastating.

Clementine also has the hat that got Lee bitten xD although she doesn't know it. It does have his blood on it, so he will always be with her 0.o lol.

And yeah, Kenny was a mess. Poor guy... I really hope he just took some scratches on the pinky finger, cut it off, and is still out there somewhere xD(seriously though, BRING HIM BACK).

Lol I forgot Christa chugged that bottle haha! I guess it could also explain how the one-armed/bitten and weak guy thought he could pull a heavy pregnant woman up by himself using a thin metal pole. Omid wasn't drunk, so what was he doing!? Lol just there for the ride...

Clemmy should have kept the talkie and pistol too. It was Carley's btw, Carley had used it, and if she was alive until episode 3 Lilly had it and shot Carley with the pistol. When Lee disarms Lilly he either gives it to Ben or keeps it, and he ends up with it in episode 4 anyway. Still, you'd expect such a little girl to keep mementos of stuff to remind her of the past; when everything was better.

Anyway, who knows if she has anything or not? She still could have grabbed something, because there was a time gap from Savannah to the countryside. That is a question to be answered!

  • I'm not sure which of Kenny's deaths are more heroic. In my opinion, Kenny found out that Christa was pregnant when chugging the whiskey, and remembered that when she fell down the hole.

Kenny probably saved her because she was pregnant, and he didn't want her to die. This is later supported by a short conversation between Lee and Christa:

Lee: What's going on with you?
    Christa: What do you mean?
Lee: I mean, you know why Kenny did that, right?
    Christa: I was in trouble.
(Lee rolls his eyes.) Lee: Sure...

I think Lee also got the idea that Kenny saved her because he found out that she was pregnant.

  • @Zeruis said: In my opinion, Kenny found out that Christa was pregnant when chugging the whiskey, and remembered that when she fell down the hole.

I'd say it's more than your opinion, Kenny's face says it all. His eyes dart up down a few times while Christa is drinking, probably looking at the bottle and her stomach and then he suddenly looks shocked because he figured it out. If you ask Christa "What's going on with you?" after Kenny "dies" she says nothing and Lee comes back with "Kenny didn't go down there for nothing."

  • Yeah, I'm sure Kenny figured it out in the attic. His face was pretty hilarious.

  • I always thought Christa jumped down to try to convince Kenny that she wasn't pregnant. A "Look, I'm willingly putting myself in danger, so that proves I'm not pregnant, okay!?" kind of thing. Since she almost always sternly crushed the topic whenever it came up, it made sense at the time.

Whatever the reason, i didn't agree with it either. As for Lee, obviously he did not know that there was a horde of walkers at the Marsh House. For all they knew, the stranger's car could have been completely clear and ready to zoom away any minute. It's a risk they had to take(mostly because of Christa).

    Hindsight is 20/20, and etc.

  • Uh... they did know. There were thousands of them Mornai! THOUSANDS lol. That and they didn't even know the Stranger had a car xD. Nor that it was HIS car. Loopholes :P
