The Wolf Among Us - Episode 4: In Sheep's Clothing
I got the game because I saw the walkthrough of episode 1. But I made different choices than whoever made the walkthrough because they made Bigby act like a pussy. However no matter what choices I made, it made no difference to the story.
Sure, telling Beast that he saw Beauty when she asked him not to made her say some pissed-off lines, but I could tell that after that, the plot continued exactly as before. Insult the pig and he makes a snappy comeback, but that's all.
Tearing off the monster's arm in the bar and killing the fat twin in the alley made people call me (I mean, Bigby) names and hate me, but I could tell it didn't affect the game play sequence.
The only decision that might have made a noticeable change in the plot was going to check out Crane's apartment and letting Bluebeard ransack the other place. But ultimately, I'm sure that made no difference either. You'd get the glass shard and fix the mirror anyway.
After a while, I just let the program take the default actions so i could watch it like a movie rather than playing it like a game.
Maybe the game was invented for little kids, or maybe it's because I don't like gaming because it always involves killing people (I'm a girl). This was my first ever 3D game, even though I have had high-end Nvidia cards for 10 years. (I got them because my degree in computer science involved 3d Graphics and its fascinating, so I look at Nvidia demos. I also like hacking the card).
But to me, the things you HAD to do to make the game progress, like look at all the pictures in a book, were just a waste of time. The fights were particularly pointless, since there was no strategy. I'm going to play episode 5 just to find out the motivation for killing the prosties. But no season 2 for me. I'm going to stick to the comix, where the stories don't take 2 hours to read. I read the first 84 so far, and that's only half of them, so they'll keep me busy.
BTW, this is a righteous EXCELLENT story series, truly Firefly-calibre. Check out the story arc where the fables realize that they're characters in the Fables comic book and they deal with the issue of free will. They also talk about how you (the reader) watching them makes them self-conscious during sex.
I mean, is that cool, or WHAT?? ☺
...Okay, so what do YOU think, huh? Well? Huh?
