I can't install Sam & Max Season 1. First of all, the disc won't autoplay; when I look in AUTORUN.INF on the CD it seems to point to SamMax101.exe which doesn't actually exist on the disc. What it DOES have is SAM_AND_.EXE. When I run this file manually from explorer it will stop installing when it tries to extract "amd_office_dream.aud" with the message, "Error decompressing data! Corrupted installer?" I am then forced to cancel the install.
I found this other thread here regarding the same error message - I have tried to copy SAM_AND_.EXE to the desktop and installing from there, but it gives me the same error message. It did it right away (on the first file) the first time, then I copied it again and this time it gave me the error message on the same file.
I am running WinXP Service Pack 3. The CD drive had updated firmware about a year or so ago, and it is no longer in production (the BENQ website no longer lists the model) so I doubt outdated firmware is the issue. Besides, it also was problematic running from the hard drive.
I am now afraid that I may actually have a bad disc, but am wondering if there is anything else that can be done to help. Thanks!
