Direct3d issue with Sam and Max Season 1

posted by Slummyjoe on - last edited - Viewed by 808 users

Hello I recently purchased sam and max season one and whenever I try to load up a episode all I get is a 'cannot initialize direct3d' error. My videocard (nvidia 9600gt) is updated, as well as directx. Ive been trying to resolve the issue over the past few dats but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Nevertheless it's a good idea if you:

Go to your Start menu and click on Run.
Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Then go to the Display tab.
    From there, post this information:
    Name:
    Current Display Mode:
    Main Driver:
    Version:
    Date:

Sadly i see nothing unusual there.
While you were gone i read in a different thread that someone solved that error by completely uninstalling the nvidia driver and reinstalling it. You can uninstall it the same way as other applications. Don't skip the restart after installation.

I just mention this, because i was lazy often and skipped the uninstallation.

Then you should try installing the complete DirectX End-User Runtimes.

In case you have those files already it doesn't hurt to download them again in case something in them is corrupt.

Before that delete your browsers cache/temporary internet files:

In recent Firefox and Internet Explorer you can delete the cache/temporary internet files with CTRL-Shift-Del.
In Firefox you would only select "Cache".
In Internet Explorer only select "Temporary Internet Files".
Uncheck all other boxes in each case.

  • still have the same error :(

Since we are online at quite different times I'll just give you a list of things you could try, to speed things up:

What kind of Display is connected to your graphics card?
    What is your windows version?
Make sure you have installed the latest available service pack and windows updates.
Make sure you have you have updated other drivers such as chipset, audio and whatever comes to your mind.

  • I seem to be having the same problem.

Vista 32 bit, Radeon X1600, have reinstalled the drivers, tried to reinstall DirectX but only been told that it's up to date, dxdiag says that everything is fine.

Used to work just fine on the first playthrough about a year ago, but not anymore.

  • Do you have any sort of firewall or heavy duty virus scanner running?

One more thing. Does it work with other Direct3D based games?
