Broken Sword GBA?

posted by natlinxz on - last edited - Viewed by 335 users

I keep seeing a remake of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars (for Gameboy Advance) for really cheap in the "bargain bin" at game stores. I'm very tempted to buy it, but I've never actually played a broken sword game, so would this be a good place to start?

  • I heard the Advance version was not that great. I'd go with the directors cut on either the DS or the Wii, preferably the Wii since it has voice overs.

  • The Advance version is fine for what it is. There are no animated cutscenes, but character animations, artwork and music remain intact. If you have no other way of buying it get it.

If you can get it for PC, do that instead.

  • Don't forget, though, that the GBA version contained several bugs including one that made the game uncompletable.

  • Well I don't like pirating games, and since the PC version is probably hard to find, I'll get the GBA version for $4.00. If I like the game, I'll buy the Wii version.

@natlinxz said: you can grab it for £4.88 at this site, and it includes the second game too.

It's not hard to find at all. Sold Out Software has been selling it for years.

  • I would get it for PC if I was to play it for the first time.

But I have to say I was glad to bring the GBA with Broken Sword to the beach a couple of summers ago.

Here's a list of those pesky game-breaking bugs:

    Cannot get to Syria

If you are stuck in the game and cannot get to the Syria section it is because you have hit a nasty bug which occurs if you play the game in a certain order. To avoid this bug you need to get the Marib clue from the Montfaucon sewers before going to Spain.

Game effectively crashes on the Goat Screen in Ireland

We believe this bug is caused when the game is saved in the pub cellar then subsequently restored. Please DO NOT save the game on the cellar screen.

Save Game not working in Ireland

Avoid saving the game on the Pub Cellar screen.

Can't interact with the Cat in Syria

Avoid saving the game on the Syria Market screen.

  • I had the GBA version, and traded it in, not because I didn't think it was good, but because I got my hands on the PC a few years ago. Its a decent enough port, and if its only a couple of quid, its probably worth the money, however I would suggest the PC version to start. If you live in an area where its available to you this http://tinyurl.com/yfbn6hv is great value, the first three games for under £8.

Also, if you do enjoy the first game, definitely give the rest a try. Most people are pretty hard on the third game, but actually, I think its the second best in the franchise, although I may get chastised somewhat of admitting that X3 They're all pretty good fun.
