So will Monkey Island return for 2010?

So with Tales of Monkey Island shown to be Telltale's most successful series yet, will the series be brought back for a second season in 2010?
Maybe Guybrush returns to the Tri-Island region, or maybe we get to play as Elaine, or maybe another new region all together.
Plus what new characters or old characters will appear?

  • I say they should go for it. Tales was a definite success, plus they opened up the possibilities for another adventure without even changing much of the characters or the gaming style. It was the best you could do to tie loose ends left by Escape, and they really did it.

However, I wouldn't press TTG right now. I think they did a great job and should lay down for a while, maybe a year or so. There must a reasonable delay marketing-wise between games so that everyone could enjoy, before skipping to the next title.

But I do hope there would be another title, and perhaps they could make it even longer - 6 or even 7 episodes would be great, seeing as unlike Sam&Max, this game is a following continuity you never get tired of.

Also if anyone had to do it, it has to be Tim Schafer, after all it was his game!

Dude! I didn't know Ben's voice died. RIP.

I know in Space Quest 4 and 6 they had different voices for Roger, and neither of them did a bad job.

I was fine with tales except the ending, I thought it could have been better and less rushed. The last puzzle made no sense how Elaine would know that sort of thing would happen in ch2 unless she's psychic or has been to the afterlife.

I don't expect anything MI related to be released in 2010. Maybe next year, it just seems too soon. Besides they're doing season 3 of sam and max and that seems like plenty.

The only thing I agree with you is that I want another title too.

Apart from that, i just couldnt disagree with you more. I mean 7 episodes!? WHY?? What for???
I want one full game and so does the majority. But you want one story to be shattered into 7 short pieces. That would be almost a crime! It would take the atmosphere away, destroy the continuity of the story and make it more linear. ( There just cant be freedom nor many places to explore if one episode is 1/7 of a game.)

That would also mean at least 7 months ( probably more ) of waiting time. It would almost take 3/4 of a year to finish one game. Thats just too long. Thats not right. People would be pumped to play another MI game at first but such a long waiting time would be torture and will eventually kill the interest likely before the game is even released completely.

7 Episodes would be unpractical. What if you would like to play the game as a whole when you finally get it. You would have to quit and start the game over NUMEROUS times.

No, no more episodic Monkey Island. One long full game. Thank you.

    No, they don't: http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14700

Believe me, if you spent more time on the forums during the the season, you would like the episodic thing a whole lot more. I wasn't initially too fond of the idea of receiving my MI game bit-by-bit over 5 months. But when I started frequenting the forums and being a part of the online MI community, I saw all of the speculation, theories, excitement, fanart, etc. that the period between episodes had cause/inspired, and it's something that you just don't get from a whole, non-episodic game. By the end of December, I was completely sold on episodic gaming.

    Yes they do. http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14313

(Yes I know that it doesnt show the exact same thing, but that there are still more lovers of a full game than an episodic game.)

And actually the results your poll shows are :

Full game: 23+30+53 = 106 ( I mean Ron Gilbert had not intended to and will not make his MI 3 or 6 whatever, episodic, thats almost 100% sure. So those 53 votes count as a full game.)

    Episodic: 85+1 = 86

    106/192 = 0,55

So yeah, my example shows the majority rooting for a full game to be about 77%, yours shows it to be 55%.

    Epic win for me.

Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island 3 is a completly different cathegory that is irrelevant to whether or not people feel Monkey Island 6 should be done episodically or in one game. So it's 53 votes for full game, 86 for episodic. 38% for a full game.
And the poll you provided is not about the release of the game, but about whether the episodes should be edited together into one big game in the DVD release. Which, IMO, they should.

  • @apenpaap said: Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island 3 is a completly different cathegory that is irrelevant to whether or not people feel Monkey Island 6 should be done episodically or in one game.

How is it suddenly irrelevant and a different category?? A new Monkey Island game is a new Monkey Island game. Period. It will be the 6th game of the series, no matter who is planning to make it. If Ron Gilbert will make it, Im sure that you also know that then those votes count as a full game.

Well, the poll you provided is not totally accurate either. Its about WHO should make the game, not alone about HOW the game should be released.

I'll give you that it's not entirely accurate. So let's start a good poll about it.

  • Ok, so maybe 7 episodes IS a little too much. Even 6 is. But I think 5 is just perfect. If, for some reason, they go out of ideas for the next one, I think they could do a jam-packed 4 episodes one, instead of 5, but really packed with stuff.

And btw, a little hint: make the episodes harder, that would give more time to play and less waiting for another one to come out. They you could push the date back to, let's say, one every 5-6 weeks instead of one monthly. Or even bi-monthly, if you're really good at that.

A full game is an option only for those who wish to wait until 2012. Do you? I myself wouldn't mind if I knew the team could do better if they're given full time, thou I don't think that's the case. I think there will just be more slacking if they were to do that.
