Which supporting character(s) would you like to come back after Tales?

Spoiler Alert

Guybrush has had many supporting characters throughout the MI series. Of course Elaine, LeChuck, Stan and the Voodoo Lady always appear in every MI game so they're a given.

Which supporting characters would you like to see in the next MI game(s) (after ToMI,) and why?

You don't have to say Largo LeGrande or Murray because everyone knows they're both awesome. Nor do you have to say Morgan because the cliffhanger at the end of Ch5 involves her anyway.

Just maybe talk about which supporting characters were your favorite, and what you might see them doing if they came back... hopefully our ideas will be better than what they actually did to Murray and Herman in EMI.

[I know there probably is a similar thread like this on the forums, but because of possible Necromancy issues (replying to dead topics), and since RoTPG was released since then, I decided to open a new topic about it.]

And it's a good thing that having normal-size breasts doesn't make her any less attractive.
I'm just saying, just because she doesn't have huge breasts doesn't mean she's not hot. Not that I care, I prefer them flat, square and hairy, but you know... She IS very attractive the way she is.

  • The theme of finding cartoon characters hot is a little... creepy shall I say.

But I am prone to think they're not really cartoons as they don't follow the "four fingers on hands" rule. Or that's just my tiny excuse of not trying to find Morgan attractive (which she apparently is).

Btw, De Singe's not French. He's Burgundian =)

Well, sure, when you compare to Matsumoto and Jessica Rabbit, just about any character is going to come out looking flat.

  • How is anybody really counting Santino as a 'character'. It was just Murray!

She's a cartoon. As far as looking good, sure I guess, but what I meant was that she has more going for her than just her physical appearance. Her personality is solid, likable, and downright cute, and it makes up 90% of what makes her character attractive in any form. I never see any comments about her looks as more than just harmless jokes. Because she's a bloody drawing.

The point I was making wasn't that huge breasts make those characters attractive. I was trying to show Thin that Morgan doesn't fall into the category of "Her breasts gave her her fanbase" like Matsumoto or Jessica Rabbit do.

EDIT: Also I counted and the amount of times breasts or a variation of the word was used in regard to Morgan in this topic was a whopping THIRTY FIVE times. Sheesh. She'll be the one to beat Lara Croft in the perverted fanbase category.

  • @thin029 said: She's evil, she's weak, she's not funny and she's ugly.

No she's not. She's a pirate hunter (essentially a mercenary) who is torn by her feelings for Guybrush, she says herself that she values her independence most, she doesn't have to be funny to be great, and she can directly compete with Elaine and Kate Capsize as the hottest female character in the MI series. For the record, if they don't bring her back I will be quite disappointed.

Really, how dare you insult Morgan like that. She's one of the best written characters of any of the games and well deserves to be a recurrent face for future installments. On a side note, any man who says that animated characters can't be physically or sexually attractive needs to get his testosterone level checked. (I'll let the women speak for themselves on this one, but from a guy's perspective if you can't look at a beautifully drawn animated woman and say she looks attractive then you're very weird indeed, my friend.)

Now, getting back on topic, I thought Bloodnose the Pirate was one of the best and funniest recurring appearances of a character in the games. I wouldn't at all mind seeing Wally return as something else equally absurd. They don't need to bring back half a dozen old characters doing the same old stuff, just as Bloodnose isn't a cartographer anymore. Although, I really would like to see Largo again, whether up to his old tricks or not.

EDIT: Ooh, and I wouldn't mind to have some pirates ransack Melee Island and restore it to it's pre-EMI glory. It would be good to see the real SCUMM Bar again.

Yes. I'll admit she's attractive as a video game character goes (and I sure as hell wouldn't mind seeing an attractive girl cosplay as her), but it wasn't until the latter half of Leviathan that I really became a Morgan fan, and it wasn't her looks that had evolved, it was her character. And I fail to see how anyone could not feel at least even a smidge of compassion for her in Pirate God.

This, but also the same with Jambalaya. I wouldn't mind seeing the aftermath of the pirates taking it back after Ozzie's downfall, especially since we never had the opportunity to see it in its naturally piratey state. Maybe we could see Casaba either imprisoned or converted to piracy (though he'd have to be terrible at it, of course)?

  • @Kroms said: Morgan. Her emotional arc is fascinating to follow. I also like Anemone, Hemlock, and Bosun Krebbs, though they need to be developed a little. Show me more of them. Write out a backstory - hint at it.

I'd much rather see new, awesomely-written and well thought-out characters, though. Maybe hear a nice background story or two...

This guy is all about backstories, isnt he? Why not concentrate on the main game itself. Why do people want to see a backstory of half of the characters in Tales.

Personally I dont care about backstories that much. I havent heard people complain about the backstories of Fester Shinetop or Governor Phatt or Griswald Goodsoup or some friggin` Miss Rivers!!? MI game should focuse on Guybrush and LeChuck, Elaine and Voodoo Lady also being the main characters who should appear in every game. And of course Stan, but only in a small role.

It would be nice to see Largo again and a glimpse of the Men of Low Moral Fiber slacking in the streets. The Barber Pirates were also hilarious, but Im not sure if I want to see more of them. Not Murray this time, maybe excluding a joke or a reference but in the future, maybe.

From Tales I wouldnt bring anyone, well maybe Winslow, but that stuff with the map was definitely overrated and he should cut that to a minimum alongside with gross Anemone interracial references.
Some new characters are always welcomed, but i dont want to see a game flooded with characters, not new, not old.

However, Elaine has to be redesigned for the next MI game and the voice actress has to change. They have taken her totally to the wrong direction. In SoMI Elaine was mature, calm and friendly. Now shes just annoying and impatient as hell and looks like a young and spoiled brat. Her voice in Tales is also a horrible mixture of nagging and screeching. The best voice acting of Elaine might have been In CMI but in EMI she sounded also calm and gentile, and took care of her business without making a fuss out of everything, (unlike in Tales) which goes well with the image that SoMI gives of her.

  • I know this is just speculation for fun, but has any of you considered that this "involving characters from two-four games prior to Tales" might totally confuse MI newbies?

This is a thing I worry about actually. I remember Dave Grossmann in that interview from last year explaining that they left a gap between EMI and Tales and created a fresh story without too many references to the previous games, so that MI newcomers would also have a chance to enjoy a game which entire plot they can follow from chapter 1 - 5 without the feeling of having missed something.

The "LeChuck-chases-Guybrush" and "LeChuck-after-Elaine" business was cleverly diverted from by the introduction of Morgan and the convincing "good guy" act of LeChuck, before in the end, the obligatory showdown takes place anyway (however, due to the fresh plot, it didn't feel all that repetitive).

So Tales has done a lot of character insight work, included background stories, especially to the Voodoo Lady, and now leaves us at a starting point at which so many questions still require an answer, but to understand those, it will be crucial to have at least played through TOMI. If they were now to bring back characters from MI2 or EMI, wouldn't that make things a little complicated for people not as MI obsessed as we are (I heard that that kind of people actually exist)?

To keep the story interesting for us die hard fans and to make it become deeper, TTG should/must continue the character background story - thing and, yes, I would even trust them with a "Herman-is-really-Elaine's-grandpa" sort of twist without ruining the story, but that would mean newcomers would feel lost.

On the other hand, they might continue with creating new plots that don't start off from the ending point of the previous game, but that would be a shame since Tales doesn't really feel wrapped up yet. (Obviously, they can't get Guybrush's adventures work like Sam n Max's, where you open the closet in the office and have a brief look at tropy no. 1, 2 and 3 as token for a completed case).

Another thing I worry about when thinking about this character-interaction-focus thing: The amount and quality of puzzles might severely suffer in favor of yet another cutscene. I LOVED every single cutscene and the way they carry the story on, but I wouldn't want MI to slowly transform from a game to a movie.

Okay, this post's become longer than it was meant to be, but I really wanted that off my chest and thought this thread was a place it'd fit in. ;)

How dare you say that about Sir Santino the Duke of Triumph?

Sure it's possible to draw/paint/animate etc. image of attractive woman, but I would find it extremely weird if someone would develope romantic feelings or sexual fantasies about animated character. I don't want to offend anyone, but it's a lot easier to understand celebrity crush (which happens probably to every teenager) than obsession to female video game characters.

PS: And there's nothing wrong with my testosterone level, I just get my kicks from RL women.

No need to apologise, I think that your post contained a lot of valid points.
