How many times to you laugh when playing Monkey Island?

Just a thought. How many times do you laugh on average when you play the series? I would have to say I laugh at least 10 times in each scene of every game, except maybe in EMI, but I still laughed quite a bit at that, but not as hard.

I still don't know what's funny about that.

  • Generally none, which is odd. I really do enjoy them and find them funny. in TMI, I did actually laugh once, but it wasn't at any of the really funny bits. It was about santino, when one of the pirates said that santino had done yet another thing, and guybrush replies "talk about putting all your eggs into one basket". I dunno why, just really tickled me the idea of this superman pirate who had died and the others were left in their incompetence.

    "That's the mast!"

Seriously though. I like it becouse it shows another characters reaction when Guybrush is talking to the gamer.

Whoever lives with you must have a hard time. :D

Anyhow, avistew kind of describes my case quite well. I think I grin a lot while playing, though.

haha. Sometimes it goes like a chain-reaction where I just laugh at everything after laughing at something else. I would have to say that the first scene of gameplay in Curse was the funniest, especially the interaction with the door, and Wally crying all the time.

  • ^Chain reactions are the best.

That reminds me actually, when I started playing Curse for my first time, my brother was watching, and we both laughed at Wally crying. We just thought his voice actor was... funny at crying? I dunno.

I guess we were both feeling cruel... and in need of a hobby!

hehe, indeed. Wally's crying just sounds really funny, and because it just happens after you've probably just gotten over laughing at another joke, it makes it more funny. Just like when you look at the grate and Guybrush just says 'great'. Good times.

  • I literally burst into uncontrollable laughter constantly while playing through The curse of monkey island.

I occasionally burst into uncontrollable laughter in the secret of monkey island.

I only really had a laughter fit once in tales... the part where guybrush chops Santino's head off and all of the people in the Democratically United Brotherhood of the Manatee Interior are completely freaking out as they struggle to look around the mast to see what happened to Santino... :D that was HILARIOUS!

  • The Monkey Island theme usually brings a smile to my face, but other than that I have very few actual laugh-out-loud moments.
The games are still funny though, but like others here I don't express my amusement audibly.

  • I played 4 out of 5 of the episodes alone, and only grinned or laughed a little. But for Lair of the Leviathan, I had a friend with me watching the whole time (he too is a Monkey Island fan) and we laughed more times than you usually would throughout a feature-length comedy film. It does make a difference having another person with you.

Oh, THAT one I definitively laughed out loud to! The scream was hilarious! :D
