How about telltale games in the handheld space?

Hello everybody,

I, as a fan of the work that telltale has done, am wondering how nice it would be to play sam & max or wallace and grommit on a hand held console.

Now people are going to say, that will never be happening because hand held consoles dont have the oomph.

Now enters the special part of this thread. Recently Ive become interested in the Pandora, a handheld console with a lot of oomph. This console has a 3d GSX 3d graphics chip and will outclass DS and PSP in power. It has a touchscreen which would really go well with these type of games. It also has wifi for the episodical downloading of the games directly on the handheld. All in all I think it would be amazing to have a port for telltale games on the pandora.

What do the forumers think of this?

Regards

Bosbeetle.

Ps. I am not trying to make a commercial but for more info on this handheld check openpandora.org

Say hello to the 4th revived thread that I have encountered in the last 2 days

  • Well, Telltale is starting to port games to the Ipad, that would be a way to get your "On-the-go" Telltale fix.

  • Until this thread I had never heard of the Pandora. I've not seen it mentioned in any of the forums I've visited and I don't even remember seeing it in the Edge magazine. That does not bode well at all.

If anything the DS/DSi/3DS is the perfect handheld for Telltale games. The question is though will they ever port games to it? If they did I'm guessing it wouldn't be in cart format but downloadable. The DSi has it's own store for downloading games/demos and I assume the 3DS. All Nintendo needs to do is remove the draconian download size. (40Mb on the Wii... olol).

So long as they're being resurrected with new, relevant information, it's cool.

I personally prefer people upping old threads and continuing discussion than starting new threads that have an existing thread. I find it nice to read previous people's thoughts, rather than starting fresh.

  • I'd play the earlier Telltale Games if someone ported them to the 3DS, which is at least as powerful as an N64. No real specs so far, but I'd estimate at somewhere between a PS1 and a PS2. You could totally play Sam & Max Save the World on that.

EDIT: Just read the Wikipedia page. Apparently, the system possesses processing power that "far exceed[s] the Nintendo Wii" (scroll down to 'How Powerful is the 3DS?'). And since the Wii got the first two seasons (god I hate using that word, bloody Americans...) of Sam & Max, well...

  • Sorry for gravedigging this one I just did because the pandora has seen the light recently and more of them are out in the open. And I realized that puzzle agent would be great on it :)

  • Thanks for introducing Pandora bosbeetle! I'venever heard of it before! i think I just found my perfect subNoteBook! or even my perfect notebook! I'm a huge fan of it now ...

Just search for guides for installing Ubuntu on it, Then install WINE, or install WINE directly.
I don't know if the distro that Pandora uses supports WINE or not.
Then, install your copy of Puzzle Agent following this instructions :)
    :( I wish I had it too ...
EDIT: According to pandora's FAQ, WINE doesn't work on it ...

That wouldnt work, WINE is not an emulator and the pandora runs on a ARM chip, so even if you put WINE on it it would never run windows programs unless they are ported to ARM.

(ARM are the chips you find in cellphones)

Also because of that it would be an option for telltale since they already ported stuff to ipad that also runs on ARM chips, so they can do it but, but I dont know if they want to.

Were talking about the pandora here and there isnt a picture of it here so I will put a picture of mine so people see what we are talking about

this is a pandora a handheld that runs linux

To see what you can already play on it check the 'appstore' http://apps.openpandora.org (you can even add everything debian repository if you want) or check the forums http://boards.openpandora.org

I use it to play all my old adventures via scummvm in the train :) works like a charm.

I must say that Im also pretty impressed by videos of scummvm on the ipad though! It just doesnt seem that portable.

  • Okay there maybe another we can add to the list

    PSP
    DS
    Wiz/Caanoo
    Pandora
    3DS

And now there comes the Panasonic Jungle http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/04/panasonics-jungle-portable-gaming-system-emerges-gets-shown-of/

    :D

Would still love to see telltale games on any of these.
