Should telltale games make a DS game?

One of my brothers and myself were having a little discussion about telltale games and RPGs. And he was talking to me while he was playing chrono trigger on his Ds, and he then says this "Why cant that company who brought back Monkey Island do a 2D game for the DS? I'd pay to see that." Now my brother isnt really a big fan of telltale, but he does love the strong bad game as well as Puzzle agent(Which he mistakened was a DS title).

Now should telltale games make a DS game for the DS as well as 3DS? It will be interesting to see what they can think of for it.

  • The problem that comes with is expense, it's way cheaper to make a disk than a cartridge. I'd like to see them do it, but I don't think it will happen, because telltale is a small company.

  • Contrasting idea from Icedhope's, Telltale games is getting more well known. The Universal games may be TTG's chance to make it big. Since we are getting games off of popular movies here, it certainly means the era of adventure games is returning. So I'd say, maybe eventually. Just have hope.

There is a line between optimism and stupidity. I like to think I walk right along that line.

  • I don't think they should make exclusive DS games, but if they can port the likes of Strongbad or Poker Night or Puzzle Agent, then yeah, sure.

  • Even if the DS wasn't near the end of its life right now, I don't think it'd be good for Telltale to tone themselves down for the sake of a handheld.

The 3DS could work, but like someone said, it'd probably be better to just port older games. Telltale has yet to do (and probably never will do) a console-exclusive game, and a handheld-exclusive game would just be strange.

  • I would say no. The only reason I'd like to see Telltale make a game for the DS would be so that they could reach a wider audience, but they're already doing that fine with the platforms they're currently exploring (iPhone, iPad, Wii, Playstation, etc.). I don't think there's any need for them to make a DS game. And, like RAnthonyMahan, they'd be toning themselves down. It would be a backwards step for a company moving forward at a pretty fast rate. So, simple answer: no.

  • Maybe for the 3DS. I don't think they'd be able to get any version of the Telltale Tool engine up and running on the current DS generation.

The only good DS games are ones that are designed specifically for the DS. A port or remake would almost inevitably end up being underwhelming. If Telltale did decide to make a DS game though I'm sure they'd do a good job.

  • Pendulo Studios is releasing ports of their older games on the Wii and DS, which apparently work quite well, so I can see TTG eventually doing that too. Especially the 3DS would be an interesting platform to port to, since the interface is predestined for point and clicks and the 3D may add something to the athmosphere. And afaik TMI already supports a 3D mode.

But as long as they release their stuff on PC, I'm happy.

What about the Phoenix Wright games?

  • Or the Chrono Trigger port/update
