Increase of Game Publishers/Retailers getting "hacked"

posted by PedsterUK on - last edited - Viewed by 208 users

Ok, this is beginning to become worrying. First it was Game, then PSN and now Square Enix ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13394968 ). Who are behind these "hacks", who is next, why is it so easy to "hack" - who develops these sites, surely they're accountable?

What are your thoughts?

I'm just hoping TT do not get victimised.

(No doubt this post will eventually get locked/deleted).

I thought the hackers did that to Sony for "injustice" stuff such as making fun of Nintendo and Microsoft. What did Square Enix do?

Who says there has to be a reason? Don't rule out the possibility that some people on the internet are just nasty little ***** who are governed entirely by malice and who want to steal your credit card info.

  • Just going to make it tougher on average people. Sad.

  • When companies put together gaming sites, their priorities are to create something that looks cool and usable/convenient enough to attract their target crowd. Protection from security attacks, while nice, is not their primary goal. Until something like this happens, it looks to the managers in charge like security is a waste of money protecting against threats that may not even exist.

One nice thing about TTG is that they don't appear to store financial information in an easy-to-retrieve way, so a compromise of their database wouldn't reveal that, at least. It makes them a less interesting site from an attacker's perspective. I hope they have at least some security concepts in mind when designing their site code, though.

Maybe they're just mad that Square Enix doesn't make anything worthwhile anymore. Hooo!

Either that or it's just someone with an inflated ego trying to hack as many things as he can.

Tis True! But no one deserves to be hacked.

I think it's more than one person..and honestly..if it is one person...Justice needs to be served.

  • I like how hacked is in inverted commas in the title of this thread. It's like pedster doesn't really buy the story.

    KH:BBS was a great game!

There are many definitions of hacking though - take that guy who got into Sarah Palin's Yahoo account for example, which was guess work on his part, hence not hacking.

  • Wow, this is scary. I can only imaine where their going to attack next: Steam, Microsoft, Nintendo.
