Activision has announced that it's set to publish the Monkey Island Special Edition Collection for release later this year, bundling The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge into one neat package with additional bonus content from the Lucasarts vault.

Both games will be available in their entirety on the retail disc, with remastered HD graphics, the remastered score, full voiceover and a hints system to help you out should you get stuck. And yes, you'll still be able to seamlessly switch between the classic and HD versions of the game at the touch of a button, and you'll still get the commentary from creators Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman on Monkey Island 2.

Both full games will come with new, newver-before-seen bonus content on the disc too, including environment and character concept art from the Special Editions and the original and re-recorded soundtracks. There'll also be storyboards and concept art from an Industrial Light & Magic animated Monkey Island movie that never saw the light of day.

Monkey Island Special Edition Collection will be flying the Jolly Roger and setting sail to retail stores on September 9th, 2011. If you can't wait that long though, you could always download the games from the Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points each.

Best news ever and good to see LucasArts MI back in stores.

  • To me, the one with pupils looks more "hurr durr I'm a pie rat" than a zombie pirate, but maybe that's just me.

Ahhhhahahahahahahaha haha ha ha, good 'un mate.

... oh wait, you were serious!

  • I doubt they are going to make any changes.. I would bet this is one last try to grab some cash from loyal MI fans and people who had been holding out for a physical copy... I doubt they are willing to put more manpower into that they need to.. to add things like voice to the classic version or fixing graphical errors.. Throwing art on there isn't really hard for them to do so they are doing that because they know fans that do not care if they own a disc will want that too.... so its win win for them.

Its just going to be here are the games on a disc... MONEY PLEASE.

And you know what? Its going to work I will buy it for PC and Ps3.

  • @Scnew said: How come Activision is publishing it? They don't own Lucasarts do they?

Activision is LucasArts distributor in Europe. It's still a LucasArts game being published by themselves.

@Scnew said: Because LucasArts don't do anything anymore. They don't make games, they don't publish games.

Not true. They do publish many games, and recently made and published both 'The Force Unleashed' games.

The sad thing is, same here! I'm annoyed at myself, I have these on Steam, Xbox Live, Playstation Network and even MI1 SE from Telltales Store and I'm STILL going to buy these just because it comes with some extras and has new artwork.

I mean, damn it, I laugh at Star Wars fans when they do this sort of thing, but here I am buying Monkey Island like 10x over! :p

  • Will MI 1 SE have console controls like the 2nd one had cos point and click can be awkward on console. And truth be told I like being able to move Guybrush with the joystick.

  • Personally I don't see the point in buying them twice. I already have them on steam.

well I prefer digital distribution for PC games now. The amount of games I buy, it's preferable. I already have all my xbox 360 and PS3 games lol
