Professor Layton RPG not coming to Europe

posted by Alex IDV on - last edited - Viewed by 294 users

As you may know, the RPG "Professor Layton's London Life" was included in the Japanese version of Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call/Last Specter, and it was recently confirmed that it will be included in the American localization too. Pretty cool, right?

Wrong.

There are currently no plans to include it in the European version. While nothing has been said about the Australian version, one can only assume that London Life will be missing in it too, as Australia is part of the PAL region.

I don't know if there are many Layton fans here on the Telltale forums, but if there are, please sign this petition I started a few minutes ago. It may not help, but who knows? It's better than simply accepting the fact that one of the largest markets for Layton games is missing out on a feature that is already going to get localized anyway.

    double this

  • Is it really hard to just make all electronics able to run PAL and NTSC?

  • Yes. Because America and Europe are engaged in a Forever War in which we try to one-up each other.

  • One of these days, some gamer will have enough of this localization bullcrap and go Eric Cartman in that Human Cent-iPad episode on the developers.

"Hey Nintendo, could you at least apologize to me, because I love to be able to forgive someone for getting me FUCKED IN THE ASS."

  • I think I can speak for all American fans of Adventure games and say I know exactly how it feels not to get a cool game... I feel for you EU fans.

  • Maybe they just figured that people in the UK already get to live the London Life

(but actually it probably has to do with having to translate it into 4 additional languages for a full European release)

Actually now due to HD we have set standards. Which is why the PS3 isn't region locked. Since when you hit 720p you have to run it at a certain resolution at a certain hertz and all. So it's all now import friendly. Everything not HD (or portable) runs at different hertz and resolutions. This is one of the advantages of HD.
Like on my Dreamcast I played a few European games and it wouldn't work due to the differences in hz and res.

    Oh, you... :)

And yeah, you're probably right about that language part. If that was the case, they should still include it in the European English version. Perhaps they could include the English version of London Life in the Italian, Dutch, etc versions? It IS not part of the main game, after all, so it wouldn't feel too cheap to not translate it into every language. Better than not getting it at all, I guess.

  • @DAISHI said: So Europe gets Xenosaga and we get London Life?

    ILL TAKE IT

I wish. We only got episode 2 of Xenosaga! Worst episode out of the three that you could possibly release really, considering we didn't know what happened before, and then at the end we'll be left with an unfulfilled cliffhanger.

More seriously I'm looking forward to Last Story more now. Xenoblade was fun, but I dunno, something is missing, I just don't feel that, "OMG MUST PLAY" motivation.

As for the topic at hand. Since it's region free, I'll import if I care enough to bother.

One day every region will get every game! I can dream, right?

  • From my point of view (that of an Italian fan) I find it unfair to have to buy at full price, a game that was translated for three quarters.
Fans often praise the quality of Nintendo products but this fact shows how this happens only with some games.
I'm a fan of Level 5, not of the Nintendo and from now on I refuse to buy their product anymore. I'm going to enjoy the games of level 5 on other consoles.

I apologize for any spelling mistakes or language but I'm not used to writing in English.
