The Newly Regenerated Doctor Who Thread

posted by Friar on - last edited - Viewed by 34.6K users

So, Christmas is approaching, and with it a brand new Doctor who episode, and seeing as it's no longer series 5, I thought it would be time for a new, more generalised Doctor who thread!

For those who are new to the series, It features a humanoid Alien (timelord) called the Doctor, who travels in time and space in the TARDIS. He's the last of his race, and when he dies, he regenerates into a new person (up to 13 times). So far he has done so 11 times, with the current, 11th doctor being Matt Smith.

To kick things off, here's a trailer for the new Doctor who ipod/iphone/ipad/android game: The mazes of time!

I didn't hate it, per se. I sort of liked what I saw of Season Two, but then Martha left and I had no interest in any of those people. I am also American, which means that explosions and sex are automatically my favorite things and therefore this is the best show.

I did hate Captain Jack Harkness. Truly one of the worst episodes of television I have ever seen, and a perfect example of why I feel RTD didn't incorporate a 'Gay Agenda' (just using it as a term, not claiming it's existance) in a satisfying way that didn't feel completely forced.

  • Children of Earth and Miracle Day are my fave series of Torchwood.

  • @Ribs said: The problem here is that the character traits of the main cast are 'annoying' and 'Welsh', which means that you really shouldn't find yourself caring too much for the characters. They're terrible people.

Also, I think saying that just because Jack is gay means they ruined the character is a bit harsh, because it is basically saying 'I don't like gay ppl' because of hte way you worded it. However, he is still omnisexual, but during Miracle Day we only see his relationship(s) with men.

I don't think saying making him gay ruined his character was harsh. What if they suddenly made the rory gay? His dedication to his wife would go, and that was one of his defining characteristics. I think they changed his character too much. I felt it was no longer Cpt jack I was watching onscreen, but John Barrowman. I have nothing against gays. I actually admire them in a manner of speaking...

I don't think its the same show I used to love. But if its found a new audience, I guess that's okay. I just don't think I'll be in it.

    While you're at it...

    ...

    So anyway...

Here's Paul McGann with an eyepatch.

  • I tried watching Torchwood because I really found Captain Jack as being funny!
However, I agree that something has changed related to the character... he seemed more epic than funny in the new show. Or at least they tried to make him look epic... which was okay, I guess, but it's not the same dude that made me laugh in DW.

And then there were the "humpy-humpy" scenes that just drove me away. I understand that we, as humans, are bio-pischo-sexual-social beings (it's a fancy term, but true... look it up)... but in less than 10 episodes I've seen more "action" that I could care for.

Jack wasn't as funny as he was in Doctor Who, aliens start having "fun" with humans, the main female protagonist has a boring personality (if she has one)... meh.

I think I'll try looking at Sarah Jane Adventures. She seems funny. ^.^
    ...(RIP Elizabeth)

  • Sarah Jane is good fun, but the only two 'must watch' ones are the two with the Doctor. The rest are rather hit-or-miss and basically the third doctor era for kids.

And the one with the brigadier!

Also, McGann looks awesome with an eyepatch. The cup of tea adds bonus points.

Counterpoint; Paul McGann looks awesome in everything.

Also, the trailer for the Five Companions was at the end of the latest podcast from BF, and I am so eagerly excited about this release the more we know about it.

Also; Good news, Fitz (I'm going to call you Fitz now. Fitz is cool)! David from BF said that they're aiming to release all of this month's stuff sometime next week.

Even better news, Fitz! They're out tonight (tonight being as of this edit, ie Friday)!
