Telltale Games Forums Secret Santa 2.5 - The Summer-ing LE BIG REVEAL!

posted by Ribs on - last edited - Viewed by 1.6K users

Hello! Welcome again to the Telltale Games Secret Santa Extravaganza (Summer Sale Edition)!
Sometime within the next few weeks, Steam will host it’s annual(ish) Summer Sale, reducing the prices of very nearly every game in its catalog. During the Summer and Winter sales, us here at the Telltale Games forum like to hold a “Secret Santa” event. In this, everyone agrees to buy a gift to a random ‘target’ and to receive a gift from another who signed up to participate.

Basic rules:

Unlike previous competitions, there is no maximum on the amount spent (it is up to your discretion). You must, however, spend at least $2.50 USD. However, to counteract any potential scammers trying to get a free game, we request that anyone who signs up has a join date of April 2012 or earlier. Anyone who joined later will be capable of joining the Winter Santa event.

To Sign Up:

Post in this thread saying you’re in (preferably with your Steam wishlist, so your gifter knows what to buy for you)! Then, please PM user divisionten with the email associated with your Steam account. We're co-running this iteration of the Secret Santa event. Simple as that! The second day of the sale will be when we contact you regarding your targets. Until then, just wait!

List of Participants:
Captain Picard
corruptbiggins
Darth Marsden
der_ketzer
divisionten
flesk
Giant Tope
HelloCthulu
Jake
Jennifer
lovetodo22
Rather Dashing
RingmasterJ5
ted12
TomPravetz

Most importantly, have fun! :) This is a good bit of community interaction that I can speak from experience as having helped me become even better friends with some of those who frequent these parts.

Ribs

PS. Opinion survey: Do you think it should be made immediately known to those who get their gift who their gifter was as soon as it arrives, or should it remain anonymous until the conclusion?

Added you on Steam divisionten .

edit : ( why don't we have a same thread for GOG games )
    Several reasons, among them:

    1) Two competing Secret Santa events would be a bit ridiculous for a community of this size.

    2) GOG isn't properly set up for such a thing, really. There are no public wishlists on GOG, and the gifting system as a whole doesn't allow the sort of intermediary system we've got going here.

    3) This secret santa is spurred directly by a major sale event during which MANY things will be 75%+ off. As far as we know, GOG has no real competitor in this field. During the sale, someone can purchase several games for $20 that have a regular prices of $80+. Even though none of us quite knows how much $80 is, our mathmagicians are narrowing it down and we now know it's a bigger amount than $20.

    4) Steam has a bigger catalog with newer stuff on it. Getting stuff released in the past year for deep discounts is really cool.

    5) Steam is running an event that asks us to add to our wishlists anyway, so anyone who uses Steam will probably have a 10+ item wishlist already due to contest requirements.

  • Just to throw an actual date/time out there, entries end as soon as the sale starts (so if it doesn't start today, which'd shock me, you've got a few more days)

And if anyone at all needs to befriends Divisionten on steam, here's the link to her profile

    Thanks for the explanation .

  • Right, just read an interesting set of theories leading me to believe the sale'll now start on the 12th. So yeah. Still got a week to enter, then! :)

Are you talking about the daily wishlist giveaway? I hadn't heard of the event before, but that's what I got googling Steam wishlist contest. Has there been an announcement regarding that for this summer?

  • There was something similar during the last Christmas sale, IIRC. Basically it's a lucky draw. If you have 10 items in your wishlist and join the Sale Group, you have the chance of winning the first 10 items on your wishlist.

I think that's how it goes. Something like that, anyway.

  • ...it's here! Divisionten'll be contacting you all in just a bit over 24 hours, I assure you. Last day of entries!

I'm having to keep myself in check to not buy the games on my wishlist myself. There's some good deals this summer (most of the games in my wishlist are 50% off or more).

Oh god yes. I'm glad that I cannot buy a lot of the games on my wishlist myself.
