ITT: We discuss anime. AKA, the weaboo thread.

I didn't notice a thread directly related to anime general, so I thought I'd create one. What's the last anime you people watched and what did you think of it? For me, it was...

Horrifying, disturbing, enthralling. I don't recommend it to anyone with a weak stomach by any stretch of the imagination, but if you can handle, say, Tokyo Gore Police or something, then I recommend it.

The last broadly recommendable anime I saw, of course, is the ever enjoyable...

Tatami Galaxy.

visceral, fast paced, surreal. The things this anime gets right are legion and far too numerous to list in their entirety, but the art and story certainly stand out. To say that it's the best anime of the past five years is damning it with faint praise. It's really of sufficient quality to match the depth and craftsmanship of some of the 90's higher quality anime.

Go, my fellow weebs!

The last anime I watched was My Bride is a Mermaid. Very silly.

  • I highly recommend three anime if ya haven't seen them: Beck Mongolian Chop Squad, Baccano!, and Naoki Urasawa's Monster

I've seen Beck, but the other's aren't my sort of thing. After watching Elfen Lied (that poor puppy!), I've realized I'm more into light-hearted 'slice of life' stuff. Or harem comedies. :p

  • Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

One, it's better than the original FMA.

Second, I forget how over the top this show is. To be honest, there are very few individuals I love more in anime than Major Armstrong.

Concurred. A very good show, because they were able to follow the manga the whole way through and not deviate into some weird time travel story about magical nazis. The Big Bad(tm) is more interesting than that of most series as well.

While I heartily disagree, I think Fawful might actually disagree enough to fly into a murderous rage against you.

I honestly still thought the original FMA was still good, it's just Brotherhood is so much more fleshed out with its characters and their roles, and overall the ending is so intense.

    Calling those one-dimensional homonculi fleshed-out.

Brotherhood and the manga was better at one thing: story twists. Everything else was done with far more skill and subtlety in the original, outside of the series' recurring jokes, although even those were handled with actual good comic timing in FMA and not at all in B. And don't even get me started on the animation and art style. FMA had it right from the start, but Brotherhood remained ugly throughout it's entirety, with bland colors, bland shading, bland direction, and bland blandness. Oh, and the butchered Ishval arc. The ending to FMA isn't as incomplete as people make out either. Every single conclusion that is brought to us with the movie can be figured out for ourselves in the finale of the show.

Outside of the extremely beautiful animation, the movie was literally unnecessary....although still good.

    FMA:

    Brotherhood:

And Brotherhood has the worst thing in all of FMA: Hulk Cornello. And no, the show doesn't redeem itself in later areas, by replacing the main characters with the Xingese and Olivia Armstrong, and canceling the villain's plot built up over nearly 70 episodes in the space of one episode.

But you're free to like it....I'm just...going to rant and rail against it every change I get.

  • That's cool. I'm waiting for a hot chick to get back for more drinks.
