[SPOILER] In the forest with Duck:

Why do you guys think Katja shot herself? I personally think she wasn't happy with what her husband had turned into. Kenny's personality shifted from being pretty nice in Episode 1 to "I'll do whatever is necessary, good or bad, to protect my family" in Episode 2 and 3. (Kind of ironic how that never helped him in the end.) I think she was emotionally exhausted and Duck was the only "normal" thing she had left in the world.

Side note:

When Kenny and Katja are going to go say goodbye to Duck and Kat kills herself, how did she get the gun?

I repeated several times, "I'll do it guys. No parent should have to live through that." They then walk away to say goodbye to Duck, and then you follow them to find out that Katja shot herself.

What's weird is Kenny says "She couldn't do it!" or something like that, as if the game thought I said that she should shoot him. AFAIK Katja never had a gun before. (She's supposedly "against them" and would have used one by now if she had one, I'd think.)

So either she hid one somewhere or, for whatever reason, she asked Kenny for one.

    who the hell else would have done it?

  • She simply couldnt stand to live without her son, especially in this crazy new world. I was so not expecting that. It was shock upon shock in this episode.

  • I actually looked at Kat's suicide as odd when it happened. Considering we don't actually see it, and all we know about is a gunshot and Kenny screaming, "No!" it seems kind of odd. Not odd because of the suicide, but more so on how Kenny reacts to it. The guy just has tears in his eyes for a second, then gets up and allows his son to be killed.

    One of my thoughts was that Kenny, in a fit of panic, might have killed Kat. That doesn't make too much sense, due to the situation with his son right after, but he just took the whole scene a little too well in my opinion. Maybe he was trying to protect Duck? Who knows, although that theory is kind of shaky due to the before mentioned.

    I also agree that for a woman that stated that guns make her uncomfortable, her taking her life out of the blue was a little off (Especially with said weapon). The above posters make good points, but that scene just didn't set right with me. :P

    He's referring to Kenny I'm guessing, though I don't see why.

    Also, Katjaa got the gun cuz everyone was sposed to carry guns because the bandits could come at any moment. It's a dialogue you can pick.

    Agreed. Shit just kept on coming and coming. I also believe, aside from the fact that she indeed couldn't live without Duck, that she might have lost her overall sense of purpose. Taking care of her son might have been the only thing keeping her going in the end. In that regard, if you choose to save Doug in ep.1 she briefly mentions her family in Belgium in a conversation when you arrive at the train, stating that they're "even further away now". That was pretty sad in my opinion.

    I thought, when they were talking about weapons, it was implied that they were needed. I don't recall anything about Kat actually carrying one. The one on the couch could have been Kenny's. Look at the Walker that fell on them and the events of the raid. Kat didn't fire off a single shot, whether to protect the group or her son. :/

    As someone else already mentioned...I think Kenny killed her. I think he has finally snapped but not yet gone off the deep end. I think hes fighting to control his sanity, but hes fighting a losing battle. Its the whole thing in the beginning of the episode where Katjaa talks about hating the guns around the motel that throws me for this wild conclusion and I just feel that the way Kenny handled the whole situation with Duck getting bitten and how he ignored it I feel like the next 2 episodes somethings gonna give and hes gonna lose his sh!t.

  • On the bright side, if the "Kenny killed Kat" thing turns out to be true, at least Lee and Kenny have common ground now. :D I smell, "Drinking buddy!" :P

  • In my play-through, I told Kenny that he should do it the first time, and Katjaa walked into the woods alone with Duck. Then we heard a gunshot and assumed Duck was taken care of. When we went to check it out, we found she had killed herself. ;-;

    It's an effective tool.
