Chuck's role

I thought Chuck was a good character in TWD and I thought they could have used him better. I know that they can't explore much each character in only five episodes, but don't you think it would be nice to see a conection of him being the father of the dairy's farm brothers as many people here were thinking it would happen, for example? Or maybe something else to add more content to the character (maybe being alive at the sewers, help lee and then sacrificing himself there for Lee to continue and meet Vernon)?

  • Exactly. I think Chuck could make a very interesting role in the series and they use him in episode 4 just to be another death. Everybody complained that they killed Carley/Doug quickly and never mention them again, meaning that our decision at episode 1 was useless, but with Chuck is even worse. It's like let's get rid of this character as soon as we can.

  • He was a pretty mysterious and weird(?) character... He could see Lee's death and that Clem needs to learn how to survive on her own. The way he spoke was awesome.
"Don't ask for whom the bell tolls..."
Kenny: "What are you jammerin about?"
    "It tolls for thee."
    :D

  • You know, the more I think about it, the more I can feel a deleted scene around Chuck. Episode 4's Chuck arc has the unmistakable feeling of content that was cut for time.

  • Then they make episode 5 with one hour because they delayed every chapter before and had to release it immediately. If Chuck had an ambiguous ending like Kenny, that had the possibility to return, i would forgive that point expecting something in the future, but that's not even the case.

  • I miss chuck :c Though now the magical hobo rests in peace, That is my only comfort.

  • Chuck would've been a good alternative caregiver for Clem, perhaps more interesting than Christa and Omid. I could've seen him sticking around for Season 2.

I liked Charles. He looked and talked like a survivor, played the guitar and got up in Kenny's face when Kenny was having his pity party at the tanker. Unfortunately, not everyone Lee meets in his travels gains the following:

    1) live all the way to the end of e5
    2) A detailed and fully explained background story
    3) A heroic death
    4) A meaningful death
    5) A destiny
    6) Connection to other characters Lee has met.
    7) Related to the senator Lee killed
    8) Related to the St. Johns family.
    9) Redemption as part of their story arc.
    10) saved by Lee and thus guaranteed to live...even survive the ZA
    11) Related to the Everett family
    12) immunity to walker bites or infection.

Glad we met Charles. He made Lee's story more memorable.

  • If Chuck had been there Vernon would never have gotten the boat.

    And Omid would have died.

Nice list, good job. My problem is not having everyone with one of this endings, but when you're making the story you have to work to extract the best of each character, as well as balancing them.

    In my opinion:

Thumbs up - Ben - He played the role of the idiot guy who ruins everything and that's what we get from him since his start until his ending. We don't need anything else from him, that's why he's there for, to fuck everything until he dies.

Thumbs up - Mark - Used to show how the group got food for three months, to talk a lot to lee so we get to like him a little until he's used for his main role of being chopped by cannibalistics and mindblow everyone. We don't need anything else from him, he played his part.

Thumbs down - Chuck - A strange man we meet in the road and who was responsible to convince lee that clem needed instruction to survive alone. If you put Doug/Carley or Mark to say that to Lee, Chuck would be useless. I know that you need people only to die and cause impact, but that was Mark's role. Ok, you put him to be the realistic man and convince Lee, but then you explore either his past or his help a little more at episode 4, not because it needs to be done, but because you have the kind of character that can be done. Even his death could be more elaborated.
