a weakness in the walking dead(the game)

I love this game and I have played it 4 times but I think there is something that I didn,t like:THE GAMEPLAY. The story was GREAT but I think the creators have focused so much on the story and they didn,t do anything useful for the gameplay.I think the creators of this game could easily make a very good gameplay beside a great story. For example:It would be great if you could find more weapons and explosives in the game.In episode five there was a silly scene that you could kill your enemies by just pressing one button!!

WHO AGREES?

  • It's almost like watching a visual novel. Alot of people that aren't into games have played this. Its a good thing i think.

  • There was an emphasis on story and not gameplay because the developers wanted the players to be able to finish the episodes and talk about them.

I was still cool with the gameplay they already included.

  • "more explosives?" Don't think that'd be good. Only things I'd change would be:
    1. No stupid first person shoot-outs, they're mostly a pain in the ass, and result in a game-over, which just crashes and destroys the atmosphere. I know they meant well adding some variety to the gameplay, but if possible, either improve that gunplay, or replace it by point&click gunplay, like it was used in the last stand at the mansion.
    2. Add supply management if possible, give me the choice whether or not to go on supply runs, to risk or don't risk group members' lives, to deal out the food, and to equip everybody with weapons, manage our ammo, tell who's keeping watch when needed and such stuff.
    3. Decisions, with different outcomes, and a non-canon ending.

If somehow we could get that in season 2 it would be great, but even if season 2 will be exactly like season 1 in terms of gameplay, I wouldn't mind. I love this game the way it is.

That "silly" scene I think is one of the greatest, and strongest ones in the whole season, Lee is at a point where he just doesn't give a shit, he wants to save that girl no matter what. The song played in the background "Armed with Death" adds to the atmosphere, hell even the lighting in the scene is perfect. Walkers are "one-hits". They don't need 3, or 4 hits, they need just one, single, good one to the head, and they're done, and with all the rage Lee carries inside of him, I think it's good the way it is, it is reasonable.

  • Lee moving through the horde was actually one my highlights of the season. There are plenty of games that emphasize on more explosive action, but The Walking Dead doesn't need to be one of them.

I wouldn't mind more innovation on some of the problem solving in Season 2, and maybe less reliance on quick time events, but a lack of heavy shooting segments won't exactly water down the experience for me.

I think that's why they did that. In ep 5 all killings are point and click, not the "gunplay" of episode 3 and 4. I believe telltale noticed the lack and replaced it with that for a reason. I guess we shall see.

  • Eh, I enjoyed the gameplay as much as the story. I'm sure they will be even more creative in Season 2 but every episode after episode they continually stepped it up. Episode 5 had some really badass zombie killing and fighting.

  • I consider the dialogue not merely a part of the story, but huge part of the gameplay. So I think it's fine personally, but I can see where others are coming from if they wanted more "traditional" gameplay elements added in.
