After 9 years TT doesn't have a proper translations plan.

Is it possible that a company that's on the market for 9 years, and that's so focused on dialogues is still unprepared about localizations and translations?

Wallace & Gromit: the only full EFIGS from release
Sam & Max season 3 & Tales of Monkey Island: english and german only on disc
Back to the future: english, German (with voice), French.
Jurassic Park,Puzzle Agent,Law & Order: only english
Walking Dead: full EFIGS only for discs and xbox. PC customers who preordered and gave trust to the developer are still ignored.

Should I buy the disc version for Italian subtitles?
Should I just wait for the myth of a patch on Steam/TTwebsite?
Why don't you have a plan about loacalizations? Why don't you communicate?
Do you think "we'll let you know" is communication?
What are we waiting precisely?
Do you understand that these questions are being asked FOR YEARS now?

  • Why would they have to translate?
Granted it would be a nice gesture to people who don't speak English. But in the long run it's probably a simple thing of: "Why put the resources into translations for a group that is in the long run a way smaller target group".

I'm not saying that they should translate, but now it's someone asking for Italian, next week it's Finnish, a month later Spanish and at the end they put more resources into translating then they do making the game itself...

My native tongue isn't English either but I learned long ago that if you like playing games you will do well to learn that one language above all others (exept your native language of course).

    That would be ok.
TT have just TO STATE that.
    Instead they're saying "we'll see".

If they state they'll never do translations is ok, so foreign people can organize themself, start to develop fan-based translation (as many countries did).
Foreign subtitles can give TT some more sales, but official localization company's earnings are affected by unofficial fan made patches (caused by lack of information on localization by Telltale - they start fan based subtitles because they expect no translation at all).
And don't forget we're talking about a company that relies on dialogues, that's 9 years old and that' been honored with more than 80 GOTY awards. So not a local little garage anymore.

Personally, if I knew that XBLA version of Walking Dead would have Italian subtitles, I would have gifted it for a friend's birthday. I gifted him Mass Effect instead.

So, my question still: which are the localization/translation programs for TTG new and old series?

  • Personally I think they should aim to get EFIGS in all their games at release in the future. Even if it's just subtitles. Then gradually put more and more languages based on what fans would want.

They have German retail versions just like almost any TTG title. Adventure games do have a valid market here and because of that we have local publishers interested in getting the license to make a German version.
I still prefer the original version and wouldn't even start playing the German version to save my life.
