Question about the GOTY Edition

posted by FreddeN93 on - last edited - Viewed by 2.2K users

I own the Season Pass on Steam including the 400 Days DLC. Now that the GOTY Edition is about to get released, is there a way to get my hands on the extra content without having to re-buy the entire game?

  • Also forgot, it does not include any 400 Days songs, sorry about forgetting that part.

  • Well,in case of anyone wondering.

    MOD EDIT - Video removed

There. And mods,if you wish so edit this out, even though there is no reason for that, the soundtrack if available in public. Its the same if people listen to it through YouTube of they take a look at my post.

    • What, pray tell, is the point of me specifically requesting that people DO NOT POST LINKS TO THE EXTRA MATERIAL if people do it anyway?

It doesn't matter if it's freely available on YouTube or whatever, I asked people not to share it until I heard back from the Telltale team. Even if you say I can edit your post, the fact remains you disobeyed a direct request from a forum moderator.

I'm seriously tempted to just lock the thread and suspend you for a day or two. I won't, but dammit, I am NOT happy you did that.

Now. Just to be clear - NO-ONE SHARE ANYTHING UNTIL A MOD OR MEMBER OF TELLTALE SAY THAT YOU CAN.

  • Goty edition? Is this like the goat editions from yt with goats singing popular songs? I'm not sure I'd like to hear goat yelling "take us back".

  • I got this version for my Xbox 360 because I had given my copy of the game away. It's a pretty weak game of the year edition. You get a disc that adds nothing that the first Xbox disc release did, except 400 days, and it shows the same game pic as that release. It still can't be installed on the hard drive which was a big complaint with the previous release. They don't make it clear how you will get the bonus content from the case. The 36 minute video and soundtrack must be downloaded from this site. You don't even need a code to get it, so it doesn't seem like exclusive material for buying the GOTY edition.

You couldn't find any details about this edition before it was released, but I needed a copy anyway so I didn't think much about it before getting it. I would have liked this edition to be installed on the HDD, and for the bonus content to be on disc, but it's still the game I needed. They should give everyone here the bonus content for free, and I'm sure they will at some point. It's not worth purchasing even separate from the game. I don't think they had the intention to keep it from those who want it for free anyway, which is why it seemed unrelated to the GOTY pretty much. I'm sure everyone here who is interested in it has seen it regardless of whether they bought the game of the year or not.

  • So i presume the episode 5 trailer song counts as extra content too? That's a real shame, i'm really hoping to get my hands on the song but i don't think buying the game twice just for a single track is worth it.

I was just about to say that TTG might probably add this to our accounts as a dl in the games list just like with Jurassic Park, but then I noticed it's not possible to download JP OST from TTG my games page...

Could this be a possibility ?

    • It's probably not going to happen at the moment, given how the website's currently set up to work.

Also, apologies for the thumbs down - my tablet's touch-screen was playing up, grumble grumble...

EDIT: Fixed it now. Thumbs ups for all!*

*I will not actually be giving everyone a thumbs up.

  • Telltale has milked season one as much as they can now, and will have to make season two just as great to continue their success. They will probably get good initial sales of season two regardless of how good or bad it is, but if they want to sustain that it's going to have to be as good as season one. I'm more pessimistic than most other who post here, but I hope I'm wrong about every negative thing I've said. If I didn't have any hope I guess I wouldn't be looking around these forums.

    • I'm surprised they didn't port Season 1 to the Wii , Wii U or 3DS.

      • You couldn't get any details or answers about this edition because they knew it wasn't what anyone wanted. If they can't give details or answer questions without hurting sales then they shouldn't have released it. They ignored one of the biggest questions people had about the Xbox version asking it could be installed to the hard drive. They kept the details to themselves because they didn't even attempt to give players anything they wanted.

The bonus content isn't good. The soundtrack feels like it was thrown together in half an hour. It's ruins some of the best tracks by mixing them or shortening them. The versions that are already out there are better. They didn't use any new footage but edit old material a little. I don't like the way they release this crap and then go silent. If they had made a quality GOTY edition and could have given answers that fans wanted to hear they wouldn't have ignored them. I don't like this kind of stuff from telltale.

I don't have a problem with them on most issues. I accept the problems their games have for the price they charge, and I don't feel like they owe me information on upcoming games. I don't have a problem making as much money as they can when it comes to porting the game along with the glitches that plague every version to some degree. It wasn't $60 game. They have quit trying to improve it it any further at this point, which is fine. They put nothing into the GOTY edition either and I think it's shady to release a product so poor that ignoring potential custumers will do less damage than responding to them honestly. I don't like common questions being ignored, or being being lied to because the truth doesn't sound good enough. It does make me question how they are using their resources to work on releasing and patching games they have already sold when they seem to put porting the game to other systems over everything else. That's why the crappy telltale tool still exist.

I remember watching the playing dead episode for 400 days right after finishing the expansion, and when asked about it's length you see the hesitation before he starts lying about it being around the same length as the other episode. The way he reacts clearly shows he's not sure how to respond since he knows it's a lot shorter than the other episodes, but doesn't want to say it since it's not what fans want to hear. If they can't say it's shorter without it sounding negative then they should have made it as long as the other episodes instead of putting themselves in a position to blatantly lie or admit one of the biggest flaws in a game they are promoting.

  • I wish all latest editions will do what Ex: Human Revolution "Director Edition" and just give varied discounts to those who owns how many of the game already. :)

  • So we don't get a disc copy if we've bought the whole thing online for free (minus the shipping costs)? That's too bad.

  • I got the GOTY edition just for the bonus content. its totally worth it i think
