Tales of Monkey Island
Lair of the Leviathan
The official description:
Trapped in the belly of the beast, our hero encounters a surprising band of castaways, including the long-lost (and obsessive-compulsive) explorer Coronado De Cava. Can the Mighty Pirate win the suspicious De Cava's trust? Will sexy pirate hunter Morgan LeFlay prove to be a ruthless enemy, or an unlikely ally? Will the group find La Esponja Grande in time to save Elaine from the rampant Pox of LeChuck? And will the world be crushed by the gnashing teeth of a certain demonic skull? Tales of Monkey Island's moist and absorbing third episode, Lair of the Leviathan, will answer some of these urgent questions -- and raise still more -- as the five month adventure builds to its epic climax!

I found it by far the longest of the 3 episodes, plus there was no maze and not much back-and forth travelling to artificially increase playtime.

Just finished it myself. = ) Won't say anything spoiler-y - will there be a spoiler topic where we can discuss the events of the chapter?
Regardless, I'll just say - thoroughly enjoyed it; the first time I've had some laugh-out-loud moments in a video game in ages. I'm not usually the sort who laughs out loud much, but some of the dialogue exchanges in this one had me tickled.
Am also very interested to see where the plot goes from here - the month (and-a-bit) gap between each episode might make it seem slow, but if you replay all the events from the start you'll find it goes at a rip-roaring pace.
Also, most epic end credits ever. ; P Anyone who hasn't seen them yet, be sure to watch right to the end...!
Can't wait for the Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood, though I'm guessing that since this one was only just inside of September that we probably won't see it until at least the first week of November.
Hearty thumbs-up and a great big "YARRR!" from me to the Telltale Team for this one, though. = ) Keep up the good work, me hearties!

Easily the best so far, great puzzles and some great gameplay mechanics. This one seems more story-driven than the previous ones, makes everything click a little better than the previous two.

Thoroughly enjoyed the episode, and the credits were hilarious. Have to say that Murray made all the difference in this episode. I just was able to play with a huge idiot grin in anticipation of him, and through all of his dialogue. Have to say that the episode rocked and I can't wait for the next one......sadly now that I've finished it so quickly....with no hints......I now have longer to wait.

This is by far the best episode of the series, not only does it have amazing characters, amazing places, it does seems to go on and on at every turn when you would expect it to end.
I mean evening the ENDING ROCKS ! :D any chance of some sort of Murray Screensaver with him like that :)
I really enjoyed all the wacky animations when moving through those tube things.
I do hope we havent seen the last of Murray, its also amazing how a character like him can spice up the series, so far in the order ive enjoyed the episodes most to least.
Episode 3 (extremly good)
Episode 1 (very good)
Episode 2 (okayish)
I must say, you are gonna have to work hard to surpass or equal the quality of episode 3 especially if Murray doesnt return, which i sadly doubt :(

Wholeheartedly agree with all that. I do think we haven't seen the last of Murray yet. Remember how he managed to get up on the pole in CoMI's swamp after we simply left him in the water? Yes, our diabolic friend has his ways of getting around :D Or perhaps you're right of course, that would be sad.

277 minutes in one sitting. =7
Is it getting shorter?
Though a great comeback with different environments and more expression/word-fights.
And not really any obvious bugs, though a little more hidden actionpoint would be good. (clicking the front window of the ship makes you enter it etc).

Wow!
I can't believe I just spent more or less all of my afternoon free time and a good chunk of the night just playing this. I usually stretch it out over a few days and try to avoid sensitive areas of the forum in that time, but I just couldn't stop playing this episode.
I loved it! The puzzles were at a great pitch, I really got stuck trying to get DeCava an orange drink! The final puzzle took a bit of experimenting and thought too! Really a lot of the puzzles were just great in this episode, I'm so impressed, I haven't had this much fun with an adventure since....well, Sam and Max, I guess!
I LOVED GETTING STUCK! I was never "lost". I could see where I was going, but had to figure out how to get there!
Murray's appearance was actually GOOD! He had some great lines, a great actual use, he didn't just feel like he was doing his "I'M EVIL MWAHAHAHAHA....[non-threatening comment here shtick. He actually MATTERED. I didn't WANT him back, but Telltale definitely made me glad he showed up!
I loved DeCava! His crew! The whole cast was well-characterized! Morgan was expanded upon!
The locations! Oh wow, the creativeness of the locations was GREAT. I loved the design! Loved the tubes! Loved the sound it made when you went down the throat!
The individual sliders for audio helped! I was able to up the sound of the music, which I have had trouble hearing in the past two episodes. Really helped!
All in all, this episode was EVERYTHING that I wanted out of an episode. It looked great, sounded great, played great, and had that sense of atmosphere and character that makes everything else feel right. I don't think I could heap enough praise on this episode. It was everything I didn't think a Wiiware season COULD be. Thank you Telltale. I can't say how very much I appreciate being able to play this gem of a game.

Awesome as always, Telltale. I just finished the episode a bit earlier. It was shorter than the other two, but it definitely made up for it with some of the best puzzle design that I have seen thus far in a Telltale game. I cannot wait to play the next one.
How much that counts for coming from me, though, I do not know. I am, after all, super biased toward Telltale.
PS. I made a few other comments on my Twitter as I was playing through the game, but as a fair warning, some of them are a bit spoilerish.

I'd like to say that while I've always enjoyed Telltale's episodes, found them at least entertaining and well-made, something about them was always missing some sort of spark, something that is almost impossible for me to describe...
At the end of this episode, by the time the credits had stopped rolling I felt the urge to applaud. While what has gone before wasn't bad -very good, in fact- it felt like Telltale has now made a giant step towards recreating what made me love adventure games in the first place. Sharper dialogue, more memorable characters and some inspired puzzle design and just a greater attention to those little details that can make the difference between 'great' and 'classic' (such as during the credits) all work towards making this the best thing Telltale has ever done.
It helped, too, that I had a geek-bliss moment when a particular piece of music started playing.

So, Chapter Three has come and gone.
We are Past the point of No return.
We are in the Home stretch.
Chapter three brought all kinds of things I was never expecting.
Wife Swapping (Even if it was only pretend)
VooDoo Possesions
Wedgie Curses
a Resort in the Belly of a manatee.
And a moment, of pure unadulterated, Romance.
Chapter three took every technical fault and Spirited it away unto nothing, I had no graphic glitches, no doors that weren't where they were supposed to be, and most important, no sound issues.
I only really have 3 Minor niggles, Not even a damn complaint.
The Pyrite Parrot. Not gonna lie I felt a bit cheated, having gotten him back even after being melted down in episode 2, only to have him gone in episode 3.
The Face Pulling Got WAY too close to Monkey Kombat for it's own good.
The Cliffhangar While a very good haganr, not too much Cliff. which while strong not as strong as part 1 & 2s.
But now on to the good.
the VERY VERY good.
It was a moment in the Thinly veiled conversation of Morgan;s about the Leviathan, and what she needed.
Guybrush and Morgan are all but nose to nose and Guybrush says "And we could get the sponge" I know that GB is all up on Elaine, but Dominic's Voice acting, and the powerful connection at the moment between the 2 characters. Literally made my jaw drop. It was amazing.
Kudos to the team for that one.
it really was a moment for the ages.
one I'll be talking about for a long time.

I think somebody at TellTale likes Devil May Cry 3 very much :D
And I have to agree, it's the best chapter yet.
I finished it yesterday in one sitting, and I was enthralled..
The way I saw it before playing LotL, the series as a whole could go both ways - Tales of Monkey Island could either;
- Be remembered as "Monkey Island Lite", which is another way of saying: Enjoyable, but we are left with an experience of too easy puzzles, re-use of character models, re-use of jungle environment, no live band instruments on the game soundtrack, small locations, etc..
- OR, it will become a pure adventure game classic that stands on its own LEGacy (pun intended) and will be remembered for its epic story, clever puzzles, funny dialogue and soothing music.
After playing through the third episode, I would say we're headed towards the latter!
This episode stands out on its own, plus it gives the series much more depth, humor and character development. I can seriously NOT wait to see what Telltale has in store for us in the last two chapters!
Thanks Telltale! - for creating this classic gem of an adventuregame! ;)

I really liked the whole episode, but DeCava's crew were a little...I dunno. They weren't pirates. Moose was like James Franco in Pineapple Express and didn't fit in. And I'm not sure if Bugeyes was that great either.
The actual episode was pretty neat though, and, regardless of my feelings towards Moose, his banter with Murray was hilarious. Just...I do think you guys need to drop the non-pirates pirates thing (know what I mean? Like surfer dude pirates, stuff like that).
Anyways, I really, really liked the episode and I did spend a fun (shameful moment coming up) six hours on it. I just find it a strange jump from merfolk to a guy saying "bro". Other than that, great as always TT.
- Kroms, who always feels like he should shut up.

I actually turned on hints ONCE, but they turned out to be completely unhelpful and I solved the puzzle on my own anyway. I was having an issue with getting DeCava to drink the yellow bile, but was spending ages trying to re-color the bile. It took me awhile to have it click that I needed to get him to see through the red lens, but the hint that I kept getting was "Oh! Almost forgot DeCava's drink!. I already KNEW that part, and perhaps the hint system should have known once I gave him the yellow bile the first time.

Yeah, I was stuck there as well! I first thought I had to make a color drink mix (like in MI2), or maybe get him so drunk that he wouldn't know the difference.. :P Then after a (LONG) while I discovered the monocle! ...
First I thought if I took it, he wouldn't be able to see the color.. (naive.. I know, but I thought of how Wally nearly got blind after taking his monocle in MI2 (again with the MI2 throwbacks)..)...BUT NOO!! :P
Then it slowly came to me with the red merfolk-lens-device-thingy I was carrying... A smirk then appeared on my face while yelling "GAWD!!! OF COURSE!!! ITS ALL SO OBVIOUS NOW!!!!!" to the computer screen!

Yeah, mine was the opposite way. I finally realized that I needed to get him to see through the red lens, but I couldn't figure out how to trick him into using it!
I don't see why he wouldn't accept a new lens, though, if his current lens is a prescription lens and the new lens isn't, whether or not the old one was broken. The logic seemed iffy, but the puzzle was good enough that I don't really care too much.

It took me awhile because I assumed it COULDN'T be the wrench, because Guybrush said it could be used at any fathom upon examining it...making me think it had an underwater use.
Eventually I just tried it and it worked, though.

Reverse the direction of the spell, and the arrow was bolt shaped, so it was kinda obvious after that.

Best chapter yet. Funny, original, with very clever puzzles. Much better graphics than the first chapter, more characters... Telltale is taking it seriously, after the critics with the first chapter. Congratulations!!! :)

Did anyone else notice that this episode was almost totally bug-free? ;)
And I played a REVIEW copy! :)
Lair of the Leviathan reminded me of the good ol' Abe Lincoln Must Die! and Reality 2.0 times: me in drunken stupor in front of the monitor, creative but never-nasty puzzles and lots of hilarious twists.
The evolution of Morgan inside ONE SINGLE episode was incredible: she loves Guybrush - she is disappointed by Guybrush - she loves Guybrush again - she understands Guybrush loves Elaine - she chooses to remain a bounty hunter.
Wonderful, a real solid character, far away from the usual gag-driven robot.
The soul of Monkey Island is getting more adult and poetic.
Hoorray, Telltale!
P.S.: What about updating ep1 and ep2 with a debug as strong as the one you obviously did on ep3? :p
And better-disguised characters' base-models as De Cava's crew?

I really liked it, it was indeed pretty fun at parts. I need better puzzles though I was stumped a in few places for a few minutes, but I expected something to stump me for days. Although it seems like some people had trouble where I just guessed and got through. Like the monocular, that was the first thing i did was steal it and try to combine it with the lens. I thought it might make him build the cochlea faster! either way I just gave him the nasty drink and got what I needed. I think the one that got me the best was the last one where I had to shoot the head outta the cannon.

Yeah, almost bug-free. They forgot that pox-thing on Winslow while you're outside the manatee/at sea. Try to speak with him, you'll see. ;)
Though that was the only "bug" I've encountered.

I encountered a few bugs like Guybrush's half of the 'lovers' card during the intro becoming corrupted and one game breaking bug where I couldn't move anywhere, but this episode was so good that I had to forgive them.

Hey all! Long time lurker, first time poster. Aaaaand this is probably gonna be a long one. Needless to say there will be spoilers.
Although it was a little tedious to be in the same manatee for around 80% of the game, I loved this chapter. Here's why.
The creative puzzles. Playing as the Voodoo Lady was fun, and contrary to what some people are saying, I loved the 'wooing the manatee' thing. Half the time I wanted to get them wrong on purpose so I could find out all the combinations. I enjoyed the face thing. I think my favourite was the bugged-out one with the rolling eyes and the huge monkey mouth. ^_^ I also loved the one where you had to guess Morgan's answers to De Cava's questions.
But most of all, I loved the drama and character development. (I'm a girl, sue me!) I love Elaine like crazy, but in this one I almost wanted Guybrush to cheat on her. I wonder if this series will be the series where we'll actually see somebody kiss somebody? If they did, I'd be on cloud nine. I already thought the hug between Guybrush and Elaine in number two was super cute. I love this whole tension thing that's starting between Guybrush and Morgan, and Elaine and LeChuck. I absolutely loved that last shot of Elaine and LeChuck where she put her hand on his shoulder. It was subtle and wonderful. I loved Morgan's innuendo speech, and how sad she looked when he missed the point completely. I loved Murray and Guybrush's first meeting. It was so playful and full of affection. I never thought the fourth game did them justice, but this one not only did them justice, it kicked arse.
The things I loved about the old games were the art, the dialogue and the puzzles. But this whole drama and character development thing is starting to rival even Curse of Monkey Island for me.
And there's just one more thing I've got to say. THANK YOU, TELLTALE. You guys have been awesome since the beginning. You knew that us nerds would be freaking out about having another company working on the games, so you put up those FAQ's on your website assuring us that Monkey Island was in good hands. You got Elaine's original CMI voice back because you knew how pissed off we all were when she was suddenly American in the fourth one. You got our beloved characters down to a science and not only represented them well but developed them further in ways we wouldn't have thought of (thanks so much for human LeChuck!). You listened to the criticism from fans and actually used it to make the newer games better and better with each upcoming episode. You not only catered for the legions of MI nerds out there but also made it a fun game for people who have never played the previous games before. I've managed to get some of my uninitated friends to start playing TOMI, and they love it so far. So thank you Telltale. Thank you.

but it's only me, or this episodes is not good like the others? I mean, locations are smallest as ever: there ar only two in the manatee and two outside (one, if we don't count the screaming narwhall, that there isn't a real location). There aren't much puzzles, it's all a list of dialogue and mini-games. stuff like
/spoiler
face minigame, voodoo card minigame, first manatee date minigame, answer to coronado minigame, battle with coronado mini-game... oh come on, I'm the only one that have seen much more minigames than real game? Funny and genial as you want, but I'm a bit disappointed... or maybe I played it from 0.00 to 4.00 in the night, so my brain couldn't word :-P
or maybe, talking about story, I didn't wait that guybrush can find the esponja so fast... now seems like the story is at hand, I don't know how they can continue from that, and I need a new episode just to know it. ^^

All those things you mentioned are puzzles. Why does it have to be a 'use inventory item with thing' in order to be a puzzle? Didn't you have to work out the order to put the Tarot cards in, or how to pick the correct dialogue choices in some of the other puzzles?
As for the number of locations, I have lots of things to say about 'design economy,' but I think I'll save them for the mojo podcast we're recording soon.

but i hope you agree with me when I say that puzzles on three entire islands (like siege of spinner cay) are a more difficult than puzzles in an only room. I appreciate much one-room-puzzle, like that one in de singe's laboratory in the first game, or the struggle with leflay in the second one, but I think that in the third episode there weren't to many. And, please, i'm not here to pretend i'm right, no no, i'm here to compare my point of view with yours. so, comments like "gtf noob" or "wtf are u saying, this is the best!!oneone!! and stop" are not allowed :) and i'm not refering to you, but it's a general premise. Oh, i'm new, and i'm italian, i'm a great fan of telltale from the time of sam&ma, so sorry if i don't get something in your sentences, my english isn't perfect :)

When I saved the game and appeared the finale title, I was just dissappointed to finish it in a day...I wanted to be longer so I could enjoy the game for more time ;)...So I left it there to feel I can play longer ha ha

I THINK the hidden reference was when you click on the giant uvula and Guybrush says something like "This is a delicacy in some cultures" (referring to Guybrush making Murray bite the uvula in Majus' flash film). Just a guess though. The actual reference might have been much more subtle (so we had been told. ;) )

=P
Yeah, mine was the opposite way. I finally realized that I needed to get him to see through the red lens, but I couldn't figure out how to trick him into using it!
I don't see why he wouldn't accept a new lens, though, if his current lens is a prescription lens and the new lens isn't, whether or not the old one was broken. The logic seemed iffy, but the puzzle was good enough that I don't really care too much.

The uvula can't have been the Majus reference because the voices for the episode were recorded months ago. I think Jake was referring to something in the scenery.
Grog XD is in the de Cava's crew records (can't tell you offhand which one).

I thought this episode was by far the best so far, I think you guys really hit your stride with this one. I was a little surprised when it ended, I was expecting some final bigger location with a bit more exploration, but to be honest I really liked the format of the puzzles and that you tried something a little different to the standard "hub with various locations you gradually discover/unlock and some random foresty paths to get lost in" format. A lot of thought and imagination was packed into each puzzle and the difficulty levels were really good, I was always able to work my way through a problem without ever getting frustrated, and always plenty of fun along the way. Top highlights were the pirate faces and (of course) the closing credits, which you finally put some classic MI-style entertainment into ;) Can't wait for the next one!

Of Course i liked it... But if it get harders, i will like it more...
So, u dont care about Wally or Stan... Did u enjoy Murray? i do, and if they do the same with Stan or Wally, it will be gergeous...
I dont see Winslow as a great character... And u dont need a lot of info to know a character...
It seems that we are really diferent ppl, u like easy, i like hard... Im just asking for telltales to make it harder...
As Monkey Island 2 Lechuck´s Revenge... U can choose to play it
-Easy, im noob at this
-Harder, give me everything u have!
Telltales, might do the same, leaving it easy for ppl who wants easy, and hard, for ppl who wants hard.
I think this makes the game easy:
1-The few places u cant go.
2-The few things u can interact to.
3-The few characters
4-The Few items u can have.
1-If u get more places to go, it will be harder to think what u should do next.
2-If more thingsl are there to interact, u have more time to think and do things, and if all the things u can interact to, have a reason to be there, its easy... if u put some things that u can interact to, but will change nothing to the game, then it gets harder, couse you might think that u need to do something with that. Makes u think a little more.
3-no more than 10 characters per episode... All 10 have a reason to be there... no one has no reason... So, u know that if u r stuck, one of them might be the answer... If u have 30 characters, and 20 of them have nothing to give u, but still ask for something or makes u think you can do something with them, it gets harder...
4-C´mon... just 10 items in my pants?? that makes the game easy... Give us unnusefull items, like in MI2, u can buy a lot of unnusefull things, that only makes u think if they have an use! The more items u have, the more harder it gets!!
I think this few tips could make the game harder... a lot of harder than now...
I really like getting stuck in a game!!!
Well this is my opinion, i hope Telltales listen to it, and do something about it, I really dont want to think that Tales of MOnkey island, is the Easyest Graphic Adventure Game Ever Made...

Not everyone wants to get stuck for over a week or so to solve a puzzle. Also consider that the game is episodic, if all the things you say are put in the game the following will probably happen:
a) The pricetag will increase considerably. "Episodes" will cost around $30 each (More assets (dialogs, graphics) means more money, more QA/testing, more planning)
b) The games will be released yearly (or worse) instead of monthlyish
c) The game will cater to hardcore gamers.
While I still think the difficulty should be increased but not more
than a few notches (2 or 3 notches).
The idea floating around of having a difficult mode which the user can select if s/he wants, has some merits (hardcore friendly, replayability) it also complicates development and testing plus it needs more time to develop (which raises costs) and it widens the gap between releases.
What I think can be a middle point is to both increase the difficulty and enhance (*fix*) the hint system. That way if users get stuck (due to the increased difficulty), there is always a simple way to get past frustrations without resorting to the internets (which is fine as a last resort, but I prefers hints since you are still in the game)
just 10 items in my pants?? that makes the game easy
Fortunately you don't have to walk with those items in real life :)
Still very short with just 1:30 hour playtime but best game-episode ever made by telltale in my opinion! This one rocks so hard, just the credits are worth for playing.

We wait 8 years...
I dont care about the price, if they are doing this just for the money... it sucks, the game diserves to be perfect, and if it take 2x work, it should be done.
Im not asking to make the game triple harder, but at least double... in 1 to 10 it just get a 2 in hard... at least a 5 should be acceptable...
I repeat... i dont want to say... Tales Of Monkey Island, the easyest Graphic Adventure Ever Made...
I was 10 when i go trough games like Monkey 1, 2... i loved to get stuck, and think all day and night in what should i do... I loved when i was 14 and i played for 4 months GrimFandando, 5hours daily...
Hard is always better... A game that takes me 3 hours per episode, it just pisses me off.

Blurgh I need to find what I wrote somewhere else and save it to a clipboard. It was a teeny tiny littlest detail ever, during the moment when you're ejected out of the manatee. I thought that Majus did that well in his "Wonder What Happens" video, with the falling and flying debris, especially pieces of glass and wood breaking (implying crates and lanterns and bottles falling off the ship), so when you see that lantern fly past Guybrush's head and make a glass shattering sound, that was put in because Majus put it in his flash film. See, smallest weirdest thing ever, that doesn't matter to anyone, but hey.

I wasn't one of those people who wanted ToMI to be horrifically difficult, MI2 style, getting me stuck for hours. And I didn't have a problem with episode 1's difficulty at all, given that it was the start of the game, and I was expecting it to get harder.
But I have to honestly say, as good as many things in this chapter were, it was short (it felt shorter than the other episodes), and it was way too easy for being halfway through the game. Are things really getting harder, or are the time constraints limiting how many puzzles you get in? I mean, this episode only really had, what, four or five places? It's pretty small, and there weren't really very complex puzzles with items.
If it's still getting better, I'll live with it (since everything else in the episode was still great), but if episode 4 and 5 are going to be similar in challenge and puzzle depth, I kind of wish you'd taken a bit more time before releasing these...

Wow I didn't think all of Episode 3's puzzles were easy, sometimes I was really glad they put that hint system so you'd know where to look. It's not like you're playing Monkey Island 3 (which took most of my time awake during a 7-day week to beat both versions). I thought that Manatee mating "insult fighting" was a pain and getting crew members to crack or elect you in to the brother hood took awhile. It brought back some great memories of playing Monkey Island 1-3 (Never really cared for 4). Yes some of the puzzles seemed familiar to previous games, but I didn't think this episode was a walk in the park.

i think people just want some longer, more involved puzzles like the 4 map pieces in MI2. it was only one chapter of the whole game, but it took a LONG TIME to get each map piece and it was such a huge accomplishment when you finally got one.
ToMI keeps doing these "do three of this action" puzzles, and they really dont take long at all, and you basically end up completing all three almost at the same time. so that really makes it feel short when you can complete 3 major puzzles all in the span of 5 minutes of each other.
i just remember each map piece in MI2 had a bunch of objectives in a row to accomplish, with twists and turns. you pretty much just HAD TO focus on one map-piece at a time because there was so much to it.
i think that's what's missing from TTG puzzles. theyre always the same formula.
Intro puzzle
3-part puzzle
center short puzzle
3-part puzzle
and then final battle/puzzle
this sort of chopped-up formula really doesnt lend itself to long, involved, drawn-out puzzles like the ones we loved from MI1, 2, and 3. and that's kinda saddening.
edit: this is just my opinion, nobody freak out

Is there a way to purchase only Ep 3? I got Ep 1 for free on Pirate day, bought Ep 2 and now it seems I can only purchase a full subscription which seems very unnecessary to me. (Meaning I won't)

The release of single episode purchase seems much later than the release of the episode for download by those who bought the full season. It'll come. :)
This was the best episode this far IMO. Great job telltale!

I finished it yesterday, too. Definitely a quality chapter, and probably my favorite one so far. The characters in this chapter were much richer and more memorable, in my opinion. Can't wait for Chapter 4!

Is there anyway someone can send me a video of the ending to this chapter? I got to the part where Moose smashes Guybrush and Morgans heads together and then my computer crashed. I ask this because the game is installed on my brothers profile and I don't know the password. I need to know what happens. It has to be the end right? I won't see my brother again until tomorrow night and that's a long time to wait for a few minutes left of a game. If there's still more gameplay after this then I'll wait, but I kinda doubt it. Can someone help me out PLEASE!

Exactly, the short puzzlez just make it easy, as the few places u can go, or the few objectives u have to acomplish...
I insist:
1-More places
2-More characters
3-Longer objectives
4-More items inside (so it gets hard to know what is the right item to use)
5-Try not the obvius things.
6-Unnusefull items, or clicks spots.

I started playing it on Wednesday and played it for about half an hour before I had to go out for the rest of the day. Then I was busy and didn't get round to continuing until today. And today I got back into it so quickly I didn't stop playing until I finished it!
I don't recall getting really stuck anywhere (though some puzzles caused me to stop and think for a while). So maybe I found the puzzles a little easier than expected in this one. However, the actual concepts for the puzzles were amazing!! Some of my favourite puzzles were:
The face-off (going round and collecting facial expressions!)
Switching bodies with the Voodoo Lady, and using the tarot cards
Helping a manatee get a date (confusing at first, but had fun with it in the end)
A couple of other memorable bits in this one for me were giving a laxative to exit the manatee (nasty yet appropriate!) and of course, Murray.
As always, the presentation was as lovely as the first 2 chapters. Lovely graphics with fantastic facial expressions from the characters, really nice music (beautifully composed and well arranged), excellent voice acting from all the cast and a fun storyline.
Also, the end credits were entertaining! (kind of a weird comment, but true)
Telltale, you've done it again!! :D Once again I give you two thumbs up!

Still very short with just 1:30 hour playtime but best game-episode ever made by telltale in my opinion! This one rocks so hard, just the credits are worth for playing.
1h30m?
You really need to turn off the hint system completely. Its under options. And it really sounds like you just did not do any mistakes, which is a lot of good gags missed.
I actually used the hint system for the first time in this game.
*SPOILER* *SPOILER* I thought I had to ride the Manatee back to the Island somehow. I could probably have figured out about the locket without the hint I got after turning on the hint system, but it said it was only my mind that needed to go to Spoon Island, and I just knew I had to take a closer look at the locket.
It was also great that there was an extra face puzzle, and only there to be a gag :) The whole episode was great. I think I used 6 hours on it, and it probably helped that I didnt play it all the way through in one night. That way it is easier to enjoy exploring all possibilities just to hear what they are going to say to it. Completing the game in 1 hour and 30 min, you probably never got stuck, and certainly did not try out all the stuff those "mini games" as they were called could lead to.
I also liked how getting DeCava a drink seemed like you needed color his drink, but turned out to be a monocle puzzle :D Two great parts of MI2. And it seemed it was made that way on purpose. *SPOILER*
*SPOILER*
I liked the mini games a lot more than having several places to go between since those places didnt have much puzzle in them anyway, the way I see it. If there are going to be lots of locations, there needs to be lots of puzzles to go with that, otherwise the game only gets long because of the travel time, instead of hearing all those responses you can get.
If the game is to be bigger they would have to make the game non episodic, because then they wouldnt be limited to short episodes, but could link all the Islands in this game. Perhaps make another Monkey Game that isnt episodic but perhaps revisits some of the Islands already visited with new twists? One where there is several places to visit.
I certainly enjoyed this episode alot, and to those who played through this episode in less than 2 hours probably even 2˝ hours, try doing all those puzzles and minigames again and get all the possible options out of them. Check out those "Did you try?" threads. Maybe find those treasure maps. Dont know if there is one in each episode, but that certainly should lengthen the game.

Items with no use at all is a cheap way to lengthen a game. More characters really would not make it better for me if they are all just making glass unicorns or helping some unknown pirate. In episode 3 there might not have been many characters or locations but at least there were more than 2 puzzles per location and more mini games with witty remarks, and all the characters were usefull and had good jokes.
You are looking for a game that isnt episodic. Being episodic it just cant have more characters and items without creating meaningless stuff. If it isnt episodic it is easier to make a game were you have to visit several locations to solve puzzles. Maybe you should try Simon 4 or Ceville. Those games have lots of items and places, although I find the jokes and gags in this game better overall.
You could also try Gobliiins 4, but it is almost episodic as well since every level is just one screen, and many puzzles repeat themselves. The earlier Gobliiins games were much better, but Im still glad they made a 4th one.

The locket puzzle was really easy, when u first gave it to Decava, u can see how he push the botton, and the arrow obvyusli shows who goes to a body. And the wrench, just give u the answer with out thinking...
It was also great that there was an extra face puzzle, and only there to be a gag :) The whole episode was great.
The face puzzle its like swordfigthing, just easyer and faster, and the ship face puzzle, was really obius... he was the only one where u can "ARRR" and then choose a face, so, it was for sure that u needed to use a face on him.
I think I used 6 hours on it, and it probably helped that I didnt play it all the way through in one night. I frist tryed to melt orange and yellow, to make something in the middle, it didnt work, then i remember his eyeglass and my items. no more tahn 3 minutes.

Nobody says a lot of travel, i mean a lot of places to go, but they dont need to be far one each other...

What? there r no puzzles or minigames that u can skip playing fast... Just talking, or using something in other something, to watch the response of it... I repeat, i read the "did u try" and i did almost everything, and finished the game in 2 hours. (the longer i got stuck, was 5 min)
More items, will make u not see obvius things so easy... If u had 30 items to try, or think wich one will be good on "random thing", it makes game harder and better, more characters, are good... All the peopple must not be there for a reason to helpu, they could be there to make u get loss, sending u in a quest that cant be done, or things like that... If every character, has to be memorable, then noone will, couse they will all be perfect, and noone will light up... All characters usefull, makes game OBVIUS.
You are looking for a game that isnt episodic. Being episodic it just cant have more characters and items without creating meaningless stuff. Maybe, u should try watching a movie, and not playing a Grapihc Adventure game, that´s supposed to MAKE U THINK and, burn ur ideas. If they will keep this "difficult puzzles" (sarcasm), i suggest, that next time, they make "Tales Of Monkey Island Movie - 3D animated for PC and Wii" and not a game.
You could also try Gobliiins 4, but it is almost episodic as well since every level is just one screen, and many puzzles repeat themselves. The earlier Gobliiins games were much better, but Im still glad they made a 4th one.
I played goblins 1, 2 and 3 when i was just a kid, less than 10 years old... They were fuck**n hard, and there were no "internet", or "solutions". The third, was a great game... But wth??? Goblins 4??' never heard of it!!! i will do some search when i come back to home...

One of the things I loved about this episode was that Coronado and his crew got exactly what they deserved in the end. The boys might go back to their neverending frat party, but now that De Cava got them back, he's probably going to rope them into some diabolically convoluted, Monte Cristo-esque scheme to get revenge on Guybrush and/or the Voodoo Lady.

Is it me or has each episode gradually got less intricate? It only took a couple of hours or more and that was filled cut scenes. I never got stuck at any point for longer than a couple of minutes. This game should have been released as one and not broken up into episodes I would have paid the same price and it would be a whole lot more satisfying than finishing it in a few hours then waiting a whole month to be able to continue. Maybe i should have waited until they were all out.

Yup, I have played all those adventure games, and they did use to be harder. Gobliiins 4 isnt nearly as hard as the first 3, but I guess I might just have become better at those kinds of games. Still there are many puzzles that repeat themselves in there, which makes the game longer, without being harder or more funny.
Simon the Sorcerer 4 and Broken Sword 1-4 are also good adventure games. In Broken Sword 4, they dont use the point and click system which is annoying, so I havent completed that game yet.
Have you tried Woodruff? Its almost Gobliiins 4. http://www.vintage-sierra.com/gobs/gob4.php
They even claim it to be goblins 4 although its just the same kind of game.
The game being episodes it doesnt seem easy to me to make the game harder. It just takes time, new scenes, and might end up making the game less fun. Even if you did an episode in 2 hours, then its still 10 hours of play, and then there is the treasure hunting to do still :)
I have to say:
#1: Best Credits ever
#2: I made Guybrush stand underwater for 10 minutes on purpose, and was not disappointed.

I played the whole game in about... 3 hours, maybe. Without hints on, and without getting stuck.
It's weird, I feel like each episode is easier than the previous one. Am I getting used to them or something?
I want to say I very much liked the episode. I did find it easy though. Would be fine if it was the easiest level of difficulty, but I was on the hardest. It's a bit frustrating since the Sam and Max games were harder than that as far as I am concerned.
I'm wondering if it's because it's trying to target new players?
I've never been one for being stuck for days or trying everything with everything because you're stuck, but I feel like I didn't even have to think about it to complete the episode, and that's a bit sad.
This being said, I liked it a lot and am looking forward to what's next.

Since Tales is one game and at the price of one game, its actually quite long? That is how I see it at least.
I would like the game to be more challenging as well, but the best way to do so, is make something like act 2 in Monkey 2. Sailing around between several Islands having lots of puzzles to do. In an episodic game that just doesnt fit. Especially not when it has to fit into Wii sized packages as well.
The best way to make a Monkey Island game harder in my opinion is more of the same puzzles at the same time instead of spreading them over 2-3 episodes. Still I like it the way they are done here. To me the most important is that the game is fun. Episode 3 made it all the better. And although the puzzles werent really hard it was the first time I actually used hints, and the hint system seems okay as well.
I still have 3 other adventure games I havent completed. Simon 4, Broken Sword 4 and Ceville. Ceville is crashing all the time though due to some map bug, and I cant find Broken Sword 4 and its not installed anymore. Im hoping it will come on steam or something. Simon 4 was going good, but I switched computer and havent gotten around to installing it again.

@Finsterrex: MI2 is only 3 hours long if you play in easy mode (done both recently).
@kblood: My favourite pre-Tales MI chapters are MI2 1&2, SMI 1 and CMI 2, so I guess all of us are yearning for one large island opening up gradually and a chain of islands to explore (from what I've read). Sadly, I can only see this happening with a full-budget game released all at once. There's just too much work to do for some equivalent to Plunder Island in a month.
Offtopic: those screenshots linked in another thread of Tillers new game look fab! Maybe that's the closest we're going to get to a full-budget MI game for now.

Yeah, in my opinion Maniac Mansion was too hard. I liked DOTT though, it was hard at times, but got through it. In Monkey Island 1 I got stuck at that catapult thingie. Just couldnt link together that those two screens were linked. Thankfully my brother figured it out and after 6 months of stuck, we could go on with the game.

I agree about MM being too hard (not played DOTT yet) but that banana tree puzzle in Monkey 1 was really easy for me, aged 6. The hard parts were what to give Otis in exchange for the carrot cake and the Swordmaster comebacks (I was only 5, remember). The rest of the game seemed pretty comprehendable.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I found this episode harder than the others. It took me some time to find the fourth face, especially De Cava's.. Also, the manatee dating game took some practice for me to get it right. IMHO, this is the best chapter of ToMI, and it solved a lot of problems of the previous games.
I guess some people find some games easier/harder than other people.

PS: I always hope for Grim Fandango 2, maybe some day...
It's tough. Grim Fandango was unique, the story was finished, most of the characters could not return in a sequel without killing the logic of the first part. I think I don't want a sequel - it would be like part 4 of my favourite movie triology (and Bob Gale said there should not ever be a fourth part! ;) ), a really bad idea.
HOWEVER, I tried to replay the game in the last years, and although the story moved me deeply, XP incompatibility (very frequent crashes) and incredibly tedious controlling issues made me stop rather quickly. :(
So, I'd be very open for a remake. Not a one-to-one, cowardly "MI-SE"-type remake, but an ambitious project with new controls, fluent animations, high-res backgrounds, more puzzles, maybe even an expanded story arc with more characters and dialogue.... (and Tommi Piper as Manny again in the German version!!).

Fortunately you don't have to walk with those items in real life :)
I think that their difficulty is well gauged by using the hint system. What I think they need to do though is make the hint system more accurate to what you've done and what you need to do and supply a higher gradation of hints (e.g. obscure hint, fuzzy hint, clear hint, tell you what the heck to do - or even 6 levels...?) And then just make ALL the puzzles harder. That way Guybrush's hints of what he says will make the game easier to the level that you need based on the settings you chose in the menu.
Quick note: The expectation is that the first time you get a hint you'll get the obscure hint, the second time is fuzzy, then clear, and then outright tell you what to do. But the time of the release of these hints is based on the hint setting in the menu.
If they're worried about new players the puzzles shouldn't get easier, the hint system should just be more explicit. They already built it in and it's a fantastic design idea to handle that issue.
final note: I often love having those hints and use them well, but believe that sometimes you need different types of hints. Many times in classic games (and actually in the De Cava puzzle) you may know what you need to do, but aren't sure what elements are needed to do it. So hints referring to each of the objects you need would be a good way to break down the levels of hints. E.g. (You need to still get De Cava a drink, My he has cool glasses, I wonder how I can change the colour of the drink, I wonder if I can change De Cava's viewpoint on the taste of the bile, De Cava sees everything through rose coloured glasses when it comes to his cochlea design.)

Actually - this would be fantastic for Tales of MI! Although they would probably need to orchestrate multiple episodes around it.
See Episode 1 being first island. Episode 2 is exploring the next few islands and incorporating something that happens at the first island.
Episode 3 adds 1 or 2 more islands and more areas (or simply changed areas) in the first islands.
It would be tricky, because I think part of the fun is exploring new areas, but if they used it to develop more complex characters because they're have less new assets to create then it would be neat.

I'm also wondering... Where is Stan?
There are still two episodes so I haven't given up hope yet. It would be good timing for the 4th act, however I don't care if I see Wally again or not.
(Loved seeing Murray!)
*fingers crossed* hoping that in the final act we see Herman Toothrot and he's back to his skinny, gangly old self!

Stated elsewhere in this forum, you might find quite an interesting thought where and in what very fitting role he might reappear right in the next episode. :D

Having played each game since the very first Secrets of Monkey Islamd, we've been faithful to download the Wii versions as soon as each is available; however, Chapter 3 is still not available! PC release was 9/29, with a vague date of 1-2 weeks to follow for Wii. Pleeeeeease, pretty please, I'll be your best friend? We're waiting!

I've grown to love this chapter, but I still dislike the part where you have to deal with the DUBMI. The solutions are funny and all, but some things I still find annoying.
