I didn't know where else to post this...

Does anyone know where I can get them? I seem to have lost mine. I'm good on Secret, Curse, and Escape. I just lost LeChuck's revenge and on Amazon, it's $70. Anyone know where I can get it cheaper?

If you already own it but lost it I would just download it. I don't think it's technically illegal as you would own the licence to play it.

There's a copy up on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Monkey-Island-2-LeChucks-Revenge-for-DOS_W0QQitemZ230384636835QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Sof tware?hash=item35a3fe93a3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) for substantially less than $70.

Well, that's not really the case, unfortunately, and we can't really have people recommending that as a legitimate solution here :~

I don't want to have my IP saved anywhere like The Pirate Bay. Safety precautions.

IMO - as one with Amigas-the 1st 2 Monkey games on Amiga plus the next 2.6 on PC - I can recommend legal Cloanto Amiga Forever and appropriate unpurchasable games.

Unfortunately the games are just very rare now, and with the release of Tales and the remake, there's been a surge in MI popularity. So you don't have much choice, you can either pay the high prices or wait for a remake, which is pretty likely to happen.

I'm so tempted to buy the MI Bounty pack from eBay, but I just can't justify that kind of price right now. :(

This reminds me of kids who keep claiming emulators and roms are legal, as long as you own the actual game. I'm afraid it doesn't work like that.

Lookup "Monkey Island Madness" it is a boxed set of MI1, MI2, and a Curse demo. it is on amazon now for around $43 I'm sure you could find it somewhere cheaper. Try a Vintage game store if you have one close by, these used to go for about $20, but since tales the price has shot up.

I done a little research on this, and it does seem to be legal.
The emulators are entirely legal, while the roms are only legal if you own the physical disk(so if you lost the disk then it would be illegal), and im not a kid ;)

roms are only legal if you make them from your own cartridge for your private use. Downloading them is illegal. It doesn't matter how many copies of the original cartridge you have.

Let's hope that maybe sometime soon LucasArts will release more games via Steam...like MI2...with voices...in HD...

MI2 is also available on 'The LucasArts Archives Vol. III' ... (It's the Monkey Island Madness CD-rom plus other CD-roms with games from Lucas Arts..).

How would they ever prove that you didn't make the rom using your cartridge?

For one thing, if you don't actually own the cartridge. Other then that, they can't, unless the individual game was stamped somehow.

Eww... $20 + $12 shipping seems way too high for a used DOS game.

Frankly, I say wait it out - I can almost guarentee LucasArts will release it on Steam in *some* form (possibly as "Monkey Island 2 Special Edition"). This is what I'm doing, since I hadn't actually played any of the older Monkey Islands but Secret (I know!)

I'm pretty sure (meaning uncertain) that each ROM would have some kind of unique ID depending on when and where and what system it was made and from what build of the software it was extracted from. If someone went to the bother of running through the code they might be able to tell it's a ROM used distributed on the big ol' internet. The likelyhood of this however is pretty slim. And of course I could be talking nonsense

All they have to do is catch you downloading the game (and there are groups that watch those places - this is how the RIAA finds people to sue). It doesn't matter if you "own" it, when you are downloading it from a random website you are not making a backup of *your* copy.

nitsujsedohr
10/07/2009, 11:57 am
Yeah, but look at the population of people doing it! It's like winning the lotto if you get sued. I am not condoning this course of action in any way, but the odds are you wont be sued. Either way please find a nice copy and buy it, the more money We spend on Monkey Island the better! I like having Monkey Island games, so buy more of it please!

I still think it's all nonsense and a disgrace to copyright law. I'm allowed to make copies of my own property, but I'm not allowed to download a copy that amounts to exactly the same thing as I could make on my own if I went to all the trouble? That makes no sense for the modern age, and is a poorly interpreted law that desperately needs rewording.

I would just wait a couple of months and see if LucasArts releases a Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition with voices and HD graphics. Keep an eye out on blogs or Twitter for the voice actors to let it slip...

There's got to be some explanation for the ending of Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition where the end credits message is changed to "Guybrush Threepwood will return!".

I've seen some pretty cheap copies on ebay (uk) less than a fiver with the original box and mix n mojo and dial a pirate wheels included with the games.

I'm pretty gutted that my parents threw away my amiga originals from when i was a kid. I kept all my games in such pristine condition. They also disposed off my lechucks revenge poster when i had my room re-decorated!!

Heartbreaking man! I'd the same thing, I had Discworld II and Discworld Noir for the Playstation, found out they're worth a small fortune only to be told they were sent to a charity shop...still at least it was for charity I guess :)

While I see your point, it's not like buying overpriced second hand copies of the games is going to benefit the creators in any way or encourage them that MI is still a viable 'franchise'. However if LucasArts find a stash of old disks and sell them that's a different matter altogether.

Of course, if they want to pay for the original they should go ahead and grab it but if it were me I'd wait for the inevitable special edition, at least that money will go to the 'right' place.

True, but why download it if you've already got a copy? The only reason I can think of is that you've scratched the original CD so can't run it - but on that basis, it's OK to photocopy a novel so long as you retain the badly-scorched copy you rescued from a fire.

I own well over 200 NES games and it's much more of a hassle to dig out one of my old NES systems and spend 30 minutes trying to get the thing to read the game I want to play. It's approximately 30 times easier to just pop it into an emulator and play.

Wow, I remember buying for about $40 the Lucasarts Archive that had Monkey Island Madness, Dark Forces, The Dig, Full Throttle, Afterlife and a sampler. So glad I hung onto that.

Actually, if I recall correctly, the Lucasarts Archives version of Monkey Island 3, contains MI1 & MI2 as well. And the PS2 version of MI4 will do in a pinch.

Also, has anyone checked on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com)? You can find anything & everything there.

IIRC, when I bought it for the Amiga, it had 11 disks. I think I'd rather download it.

For the English out there.
LeChuck's Revenge is being sold on Ebay.co.uk here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220490835211&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123).
However, I'm not fully positive if this is legally being sold, or just copies of the datafiles on discs..

Zhadnost
10/14/2009, 11:11 am
I think the bit at the bottom, kinda gives away that it's not legal.

"Note to Ebay - This is freeware and not breaking any copywrite."

I wonder if anyone fancies telling ebay that it certainly isn't freeware.

I think the OP would be morally justified getting a copy from someone on here or another site if they own the original, even if it's not legal.
