I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop 64-bit running Windows 7.

I have played the first 3 chapters of TOMI, the non-steam versions, just fine all the way through to the end.

I played chapter 4 up to the point of the 3rd course for la esponja. Up to that point I had played the game several times in short spurts, loading both saved and autosaved files with no problem.

Now none of my save files will load, nor will my autosave load. Here is what happens: The launcher loads fine, the startup menu for TOMI chapter 4 loads fine. When I select Resume Game or try to load my saved game, the sound and screen animations stop immediately. Everything is frozen for about a second. Then the game just exits completely. As the game exists, there is a small dialog window that appears very very very briefly that says something but it impossible to read before it disappears.

I have rebooted, uninstalled wacom drivers, rebooted, updated directX, rebooted, etc. I can't recall any significant changes to my system over the last few days since I last played.

As a test, I started a new game of chapter 4. I was able to load the autosave of this new game as well as an explicit save file of that new game just fine. Still I am unable to load my old save files.

Any ideas?

I would love to be able to pick up where I left off in my previous saved games and of course I'm concerned that the problem may reappear with my new game once I get to that point in the game again.

I have attached my dxdiag.txt file, my autosave file, and my prefs file. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

The save game works here and i didn't find anything suspicious in your dxdiag.

It's unlikely to be the problem, but it could not hurt if you redownloaded and reinstalled the episode.

There might be aa way to find the error message:
Take a look into the "application" part of windows "event viewer" after trying to start a game. Set a filter for "application errors" there to make it easier to find earlier attempts.
If you find anything related to the game you can copy the details by right clicking on the entry.

You could also look at all restore points between then and now, maybe you'll find something that happened since it worked. You can do that in the event viewer as well by filtering for "System Restore"

Hi DjNDB- thanks for the quick response and suggestions. I won't get to try the restore point and reinstall until tonight but I quickly looked at the window events and found this record:

The error message is the general "MonkeyIsland104.exe has stopped working".

I don't know if it matters, but you are using a pre release version of Windows 7, right?

Anyhow, you should try a clean boot as well:

Booting clean in Windows Vista / 7:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
4. Select the Services tab
5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
6. Click Disable all
7. Click on OK
8. Click Restart.
9. After reboot, run game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click Ok
4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer

Based on Will's post (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=156449#post156449)

Well, I wish I could report any of these ideas had fixed or illuminated the problem. Alas, I can not.

I have no restore points on my computer, so that option is out.

I reinstalled the game- same problem.

I did a clean boot of Windows 7- same problem.

DjNDB, you said you were able to run my saved game right? Maybe my option is to install on another machine to finish out chapter 4.

Any other ideas?

As an update, I installed the game on another machine, loaded my save file from my laptop, saved the game and then opened that save file on my laptop.

Viola! It works!

So... I still have no idea what happened, but it seems a workaround has been achieved.

Hopefully this helps someone else.

Thank you!
