This was originally "I wonder what happens in... I wonder what happens in..."
Note: I refreshed the whole list of workers. If you already got a part, and still want to do this. Just repost your application, and you'll probably get it again.

Hmm, we seem to have plenty of animators already, don't we?
Oh well, maybe I could still be useful elsewhere.
Here's a couple of the animations I did for assignments this year in Flash. One's a lipsync with an attempt at acting and the other is just quiet animation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1pLrim0xy0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gGkiSu_M8E
And just for kicks, the one thing in my DeviantArt account I'm the most proud of:
http://unicorn-foal.deviantart.com/art/SA-Chapter-1-Title-102779462
(I've got just the one bit of MI fanart up there right now, but it's sketchy and spoilery for ep4, so I won't bother linking to it. :) )

I'd love to take part of this project, but I don't know what I am useful for.
I'm probably useless for voiceacting since I am only 15 years old, but if there's something you need, please send me a respond and I'll see what I can do.

Greyweed, if you want you could send an example of your voice, just in case you are suitable for a character. You never know!

Guybrush has a very immature voice. I don't mean this in a rude way, just to clear that up, but Guybrush has that very young voice. Are you good at drawing as well? Or can you help with scripting?

I'd be honoured to lend my voice to any of the required characters. I've got a voice123 page but it's sadly malnurished with demos, but I can do a few different accents, pitchs, emotions etc. (Plus Im just plain easy, hah). I use MSN, Skype etc as well with a uni-directional condensor mic, so whichever is best. My regular voice is probably aussie-accented but like I say, it's quite easy with a little warm up to lower pitch and style. (I'm working on Unknown Hinson's voice just for laughs come the work christmas party.)

Okay! Artwork it is!
I softof have two different styles, detailed and simple. Simple is far faster and usually reserved for less serious pictures. For example, this TMI4 spoiler-filled picture I posted in the fanart thread:
http://unicorn-foal.deviantart.com/art/TMI4-SPOILERS-Birthday-Gift-142566132
And these older (read: not so good) ones:
http://unicorn-foal.deviantart.com/art/Coke-in-a-Plate-41650909
http://unicorn-foal.deviantart.com/art/The-Unlucky-Fairy-1-49308623
http://unicorn-foal.deviantart.com/art/The-Unlucky-Fairy-2-52252455
And a couple examples of the other style I draw in:
http://unicorn-foal.deviantart.com/art/Dog-Sled-in-the-Snow-128568900
http://unicorn-foal.deviantart.com/art/Random-Squirrel-4-1-108371899

... That enough? xD

Working on BG

It's sadly not up to my usual scratch: between dodging work and family I manage to steal some time away to quickly record this. (Coming into summer too the fans had to be shut off so they dont interfere in the background).
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5UDBSKF0
d'Oro hunts for the might Power Pirate Playset (with swinging trap doors), de Singe informs a poor patient that the splinter in his leg has gone bad, Noogie tries a dating video (my worst I admit, I had his voice in my head but not in my throat), Stan tries to sell pre-used internet access (which is actually an inter-island net of lines that ferries messages in bottles, currently unavailable in Spinner Cay), and for fun, Judge Grindstump tells Guybrush that pirates who represent themslves have fools for clients.
I wanted to do a Moose impression and Crimpdidgit's "Glass Unicorns!" but if I really want to get that kind of scratchy voice it helps to prepare for it, and I just didnt have the time today. (Thank God for weekends.)

Sure thing, de Singe was easy, and Stan was fun (I tried to immitate his SP: SMI voice). Guybrush is just my normal voice in a higher pitch, plus I tried to leech any accent out of it. I'll scribble up a small script for them each and work on it.

It's not much of a script, I just tried to think of something funny between de Singe, Stan and Guybrush together.
de Singe: Now zen, if we turn zis ‘ere, and add zat there... ah oui! It iz coming togezere! Soon, I, ze Marquis de Singe will have created ze greatest invention since zat slimy beggair stole sliced bread from moi! Nevair again will those clumsy pirates find themselves lost upon ze briney blue sea, non! With this little darling’ upun they’re ships, they will all find their way back ‘ere to Flotsam.. and my operating table!
Stan: Step right up folks and check out the brand new invention to be sweeping the Spanish Main! Have you ever found yourself drifting through the seas lost or alone? Well, fear no more as I bring you the latest technology from Monkey Island, the Great People Searcher! Yes, just install one of these babies into your cabin, quarters or crow’s nest, and the GPS will immediately search for any people (or highly intelligent dolphins) and point out they’re location to you in an instant! Never again be lost with a genuine GPS! Now you’re probably asking yourself, Gee Stan, how can you be offering me such a fantastic item so cheaply and at such high quality that it doesn’t even need a warranty? Well folks, I’m going on holiday tomorrow, and I need my suitcase!
Guybrush: Ah, there’s no other life! Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty pirate, cruising the ocean, looking for treasure.. wondering if this stupid GPS thingy I got from Stan will actually work... Huh. That.. island looks really familiar.. Nah! It couldn’t be...

Ugh, not gonna draw anymore at the moment. My tablet is shot so trying to get some painterly backgrounds is taking forever!
Gonna wait until next paycheck to get my new tablet.
But considering this is a low non budget animation I don't think getting a style more advanced then what was done would be silly. The BG style can still be detailed but, again, not going anywhere with this tablet

Hmm...
LeChuck has Kidnapped Elaine.
Guybrush arrives with his sword.
Sword turns LeChuck Human with a big VooDoo explosion.
Guybrush washes on shore with a green hand, asks how to get off, Nipperkin suggests doing him a favour first by making up some stories.
Guybrush meets Winslow and captures The Screaming Narwhal.
Guybrush causes a brawl in Club 41 (on accident).
Guybrush meets d'Oro and fakes a treasure.
Nipperkin sends him to his "source", the VooDoo lady and learns of his green hand.
Visits the doctor in the meantime before having to escape (if its in the style of Wonder What Happens.. he could just as easily break the chair accidentally).
Follows the Doctor to the wind device and just plays with it until it blows outwards. (If all the statue puzzles were shown it'd be a bit too much like an animated walkthrough yknow?)
Doctor swears revenge, Guybrush hops on board his ship and leaves and thinks about how there'll be no consequences in time for a sword to appear behind him.
Thats my quick list of Launch in a nutshell. It's not to the T of course but if it's a quick animation, youd just want the basic structure, right?

In any case, let me know if you want to wait for me to write something more adequate or if just showing you something that has nothing to do with it, like this (http://www.divshare.com/download/9569966-3e7) or this (http://www.divshare.com/download/9569922-4b3), works. Those two are very rough exercises (I mean "rough." Terrible piano playing, terrible mixing, boring ideas, low tempo, unoriginal, and so on). I made these when I was re-teaching myself how to use this music software, but most of my current stuff are background tracks, and I don't want to upload that just yet, so I guess this'll have to do unless you wait for me to try something Monkey Island-ish (if you'd still like me to take part in this, of course). Ah, I really need to get working on a music portfolio for real.
( btw Tpravetz, I'm a Ms. Lurker. Nice to meet you! :) )

I agree, Zammap makes a great Morgan. And that's from someone who has played Morgan before. It's not an easy part to play.

It doesn't have to be a whole script. Maybe a few excerpts and ideas...
(For example:
Guybrush: This is what I'll be saying at some random point in the animation.
Morgan: What?
Guybrush: I don't know...
LeChuck: Unholy this!
Hey, here's an idea! [idea here])

Narrator: Deep in the Caribbean...
-insert wacky music here-
Narrator: The Rock of Gelato.
(Cut to ship scene.)
Elaine: -boredly- Oh no. I have been kidnapped again. Who ever will save me?
(Guybrush sails up in his ship with a gallant expression.)
Guybrush: I will! I have a magic cutlass! I just need to find some rootbeer. Ooh! Over there! -Picks up a seltzer bottle- Yay! I found rootbeer!
(Suddenly, the rootbeer bottle spontaneously combusts.)
Guybrush: Oh, bugger. Well, maybe there's some on Elaine's ship! -Hums Indiana Jones theme song while swinging across to her ship with a rope-
LeChuck: Geekwood! What are you doing on me ship?
Guybrush: It's Elaine's ship, and I'm gonna look for some rootbeer now!
(Guybrush runs around the ship, looking at every object nearby.)
Guybrush: Oh, grog! Oh, a root! Oh, mints! I can use those things together to make root grog!
(He quickly mixes the items together, and BAM! Root grog. Then, he dips the Cutlass of Khaflu in.)
Guybrush: Unholy this! -stabs LeChuck-
(Suddenly, there's some big glowy effects that I'm sure would take forever to animate, and LeChuck turns human.)
LeChuck: I'm human!
Guybrush: Oh no! I should stab you again!
(Guybrush tries to stab LeChuck again, but his newly poxed hand goes nuts and the sword flies out of his hand, crashing into a big red button that is conveniently right offscreen.)
Elaine: Not the big red button!
(The ship then explodes, sending Guybrush flying to the nearest island)

If I may add my 2 cents :D
For my tastes the script still comments the jokes to much.
e.g.
While it could be easily
Guybrush: Unholy this! -stabs LeChuck-
(Suddenly, there's some big glowy effects that I'm sure would take forever to animate, and LeChuck turns human.)
LeChuck: I'm human!
Guybrush looks at Lechuck.
Guybrush looks at sword.
Guybrush stabs Lechuck again quickly out of curiousity why it didn't work.
Hand goes nuts etc.
Another one would be tht you don't need to follow the game 100%.
Just because the game used 3 items to generate root grog doesn't mean you can change it in your animation.
e.g.

Guybrush: How inconvenient.
Camera pans/zooms over to Elaines Ship showing a keg of grog from the company "Conveniently Placed Items Inc."
Guybrush: a-HA!
While those example are not as nearly as perfect as I might claim, I just want to show that things should be communicated with only a minimum of talking. Especially when it comes to jokes.
Hope that helped a bit :D

I agree with Suro. Show, don't tell. It's the better way of story-telling. :)
And I don't think anyone should be worried about going through every puzzle exactly as in the game. Just skip the less important or more dragged out ones to get to the important bits of the story. It's more interesting that way! :D

I must say, I am a little disappointed. The association with ToMI and, most of all, with Majus' flash movies, should have far more liberties than that. It shouldn't start like the game did. Maybe the beginning of the movie could play extensively with Majus' first "wrong" assumption - that the screaming Narwhal is actually a screaming Narwhal?

Majus didn't - because he always started out from what the fans knew. I think that the inconsistency he necessarily produced with this starting point makes his works all the more creative.

Majus didn't - because he always started out from what the fans knew. I think that the inconsistency he necessarily produced with this starting point makes his works all the more creative.
As far as I can tell thats because we have two ways of storytelling in here.
Majus' series of flashmovies is obviously a spoof of what could happen if you kind of take EVERY information posted on these boards and mix em together. Because, obviously, he didn't had anything else to work with.
I remember him saying "Man I'm glad Episode 4 ended this way, I wouldn't know how to get out of THAT otherwise."
The other one, this one right here, is more like a short flick about the episodes and the storyline connecting them. But no we all know what happened (thats the title of the project at least :D ).
So you can compare those to projects, but in the end they are quite different when it comes to WHAT to tell.
Geez I hope I made sense with that... :/

I see what you mean... But we also need to tell the viewer the story of why LeChuck is human...
Then why not consider changing the point of view, e.g. "Hello, I am LeChuck, Mighty Ghost Pirate - oo, a monkey; oo, Elaine; oo, a sinister plan to conquer the Caribbean" - after all, Guybrush isn't actually there at the start of the game (only, y'know, a better script than this).

You people better get writing then.
May I suggest... a "I wonder what happened before" series?
Like, the first cartoon we make could be like.. what happened before the game started. Then we can do what happens between Le Chuck and Elaine as Guybrush is on Flotsam island. Then... how Morgan cought up and found Guybrush. And... what happened on flotsam island before guybrush got brought ashore. .. you know... fill in the empty space rather then trying to retell what everyone already knows.

I suppose we could do a very quick "what happened before" scene at the beginning of the first episode, to explain a few things leading up to the first chapter. Doesn't have to be too detailed.
The impression I get is, this series will be a bit like Majus' SOMI Flash Movie. It pretty much tells the full storyline of the game, without giving away the answers to too many puzzles (e.g. Guybrush miraculously finds the paddles next to a paddleless boat; no explanation of what you have to do to get the paddles in the actual game).
It doesn't need to be a whole new story to work, it could just be a simplified version of what happened in the games, along with maybe a few things that didn't really happen (e.g. in the SOMI Flash, Guybrush kills Bob with the root beer).
BTW I've got some concept art based on the script on the previous page, but can't scan them until tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, they'll be up soon!
Oh, and LOVE the glowstick picture, zammap! :D

That's what I was going for. It's basically going to be Majus' SoMI except in 5 pieces and on ToMI. :)

I'm considering auditioning for the narrator. I'll have to record myself and hear how it sounds... Then, of course, if I am okay with it, I post it up here and let you decide whether or not I get the part. (Can't pick myself! That'd be wrong! ... Er... But not for you Majus... :))

Do you guys need help with anything else? I probably won't do voice acting again (ugh, what a nightmare I was!) but I could probably draw up some backgrounds if you need any.
Also, what other voices (preferrably female ones) do we still need? I know a pretty good voice actress who I'm pretty sure would be willing to play someone.

Losing interest in Monkey Island? Kind of can't imagine that. ;D
Oh, and stumbling upon this question:
How are we going to stay in touch after the game is over? Everyone just going to stay around here?
I'm thinking that Skype might be a good way. At least I think actually TALKING things out rather than just TYPING would work more efficiently. And for sharing the script with the others, I'd say Google Docs might work better than anything else, like sharing the text document via eMail and having everyone in the team manually change it all the time.
Said combination has proved to be successful. (If it weren't... well, that radio drama for Majus wouldn't have been released already. ;))
Oh and in case there's something else to be done... I'd try me best. Like graphics and all that.

Great to see so many people are still interested in the project! Sorry I've been so inactive lately, I'm still here though! :D
Skype could work; even just making sure we all have each other's email addresses would be a good start. I've never looked into google docs myself before but that does sound like an ideal suggestion, Mandahaya. :)
I'm not really one of the "official" writers for the script, but every so often I've had a few rough ideas for certain scenes. I don't know if they will be any good, but I can gather my ideas and type them up here if it's helpful!

Mandahaya
12/26/2009, 02:39 pm
Well, the thing is, together with four other Star Trek fanatics (one of them being [Hunter.Wolf]) we created a radio drama inspired by Majus' ST birthday flash movie trilogy. Production took us about 2 1/2 months but it really was a blast (and in addition to that, freaking hilarious!), plus it couldn't have been any more comfortable than setting up that pretty little group conversation and just expressing and talking out ideas, and then noting them down. Best thing about this is that you really grow close and you can imagine that communication between buddies works way too good to be true. :D
I'm not an official writer either, but I'm kind of creative. Furthermore, having just finished Chapter 4 of Tales, I'm super-inspired and full of ideas too! :3
If it helps, I could already set up a script on GD and share it with you.

edit: @Tpravetz, what's the difference between Docs and Wave? (Haven't seen that one yet.)
GD?
I don't know what Docs is, but Wave is an invite only (as it is in its testing) room, where we can share work instantly, talk to each other, and edit one an others posts, so we can show our ideas and build off each others. I'm new to it, but I'm using it with StLouisRibs to make a game review site, and I really like it...
Mandahaya
12/26/2009, 02:53 pm
GD is just short for Google Docs :3
Using Docs, you invite someone via their eMail address and give them permission to review or even edit your documents. So you can't really talk directly to each other, but if we used Skype it might be easier to communicate either way, I guess...
After all, working on the script itself it'd prove really useful.
edit: Oh, and as far as I know this'll be a flashfilm series? I found out that if you try to get PaintChat to work you won't succeed unless all participants work with either Mac or Windows. There IS, in fact, a tool that works for both but it's pretty simple, don't know if that's good enough for this project.

@Tpravetz: Sounds good, but as long we haven't got anything like e.g. part of the script or some raw character sketches etc. we won't really come further with just the title. Advertising the project will only really make sense when we have something solid and bulletproof in our hands.

Do you still need writers?
I threw something together for an introduction before going directly into the action, if anyone is interested. It's with a narrator summing up the situation. I'll let you see for yourself:
Okay, so basically there is this guy who goes around telling people "I'm Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate" (said by GB's voice actor, while showing GB on screen), but apparently nobody's paying attention because they all get his name wrong, except after he's dead. Which doesn't happen for a while.
Anyway, he's trying to kill that...er... well it used to be a ghost, then a zombie, then I kinda lost track (showing LeChuck's various forms, with music and probably some mwahahah style sounds from LeChuck). But he's undead, and a pirate too. His name is LeChuck.
LeChuck wants to steal Guybrush's wife, Elaine (showing Elaine), who is a Governor of a bazillion different islands, none of which show up in this game. You'd think she could hire good bodyguards with that kind of resume, but instead she gets kidnapped.
(Shift to her being kidnapped on the ship, start of the action)
If you already have ideas and just need refining, I'm willing to help, you know, to the limit of my capacities. I can't do anything as far as drawing, animating or music go, but I can try writing, editing or even audition for a voice if I buy a mike first. Just tell me what you still need and I'm on board!

Okay, I added up what I wrote with what you wrote before, and added some ideas. It's a "complete script" in that it extents from the beginning of the episode to the end, but I summed things up, skipped some, etc, it needs a lot more work. But I thought I'd get this going a bit more (hopefully it's okay to post this here rather than in wave?

As I said, I tried to sum things up because it's easier to add more stuff than to remove it, and we don't want it to be too long or detailed. Feel free to contribute and comment and change stuff and everything, since it's a group effort.
Oh, and I didn't bother writing down the marquis's accent because I feel it's a pain to write it down and read it, and we all know he's got a French accent anyways, I doubt whoever voices him will just forget.

You'll have to do that. And tell the actors how to pronounce every thing... Puns! I love puns!

Sounds like a plan. I wish you the best of luck with the translation - could be challenging but if you do manage it that'd be great!

@Tom: You mean the voice actors for the English version will also have to do it for the German one? :D (And in that case, should the ones speaking German try to sound like Americans trying to speak German? :D)
@Scrawffler: Thank you, I'll try my best. :) (And it is indeed going to be a huge challenge...)

complicated. It's like saying the dog is a cat when it's a cat disquised as a dog who is really a fish.

I'd need to see some more of zammaps' work I think but I'll give it a shot.

I... hate to seem like a nag, but I posted my auditions almost one month ago, and the only feedback I've gotten is from Maxilyah in the "Declarion of War" thread. Could someone please tell me what they think?
Positive or negative, I would love to hear something!

Thank you so much! I loved doing that Moose voice, and he's one of my favorite new characters from Tales, so it's great to be playing him!
The fact that I'm even being seriously considered for Guybrush is incredibly exciting!

I'll look at the script for a second, and I'll see who we don't have a part for yet.
Well, if we follow my current draft of the script, the pirate who greets Guybrush on Flotsam ('OW! My nose!') and Nipperkin are the two characters we don't have yet.

It says on the first page that Guybrush's voice is still up for grabs. I would try out for him if he's available. I think i'm actually pretty decent, based on Majus's version of him.
If not, I could write some stuff. I can be funny sometimes:D
I'll send in some sound clips tomorrow.

So, My sister was on all night yesterday doing a project, and I don't have enough time to upload my Guybrush Auditions right now, and I'm going away until sunday. So I can't upload my files until monday at latest. Sorry.
They sound pretty good, I think.
If you want me to write anything for this, just tell me. Of course, I won't be able to until after the weekend, though.

Another question. Is this series about what happened in each episode? Or like what happened in the original games? Maybe you already said this. 11 pages is a lot to read through. To me, anyways.

If I wanted to, could I possibly redo some of my old auditions and try out for some other characters? I think I could do a better job on some of my old ones, and try to knock out some of the voices that we still desperately need.
