I'm also excited that this means that this will (hopefully) be the last thread created about the DVD. Not nearly as excited as I am about the DVD, though.
Although I might be giving the internet too much credit here.

So, is this separate from the pre-order DVD?
Edit:
What I mean to say is, if I get the deluxe edition, am I ordering the DVD I already paid for plus all the goodies or am I ordering a separate DVD altogether?
Edit2:
And if I get the deluxe edition and the DVD is the one I already ordered, does that mean it'll be cheaper?

NICE feature set on the DVD!
The Deluxe edition is nice. I'm a sucker for cloth maps.
The shirt and the cup seem to be kind of lazy in product design compared to Telltale's usual amazing work. I generally expect them to do more than slap a logo on something, but okay. I guess people wanted that, though.
Ten cents away from the $50 if I got the Deluxe DVD and a Sam and Max pre-order. That's annoying.
So, the "case file" has morphed into a DVD edition? I guess I can understand that. Was the $15 price tag because the materials are more expensive, or to allow Telltale to offer it continuously? Will it go out of stock like the case files?

From what I understand, the Deluxe Edition is just the same DVD you get with the full season purchase with a bunch more goodies. If you didn't pre-order, you can only get the slipcover with the Deluxe Edition, and if you did, you get it with whichever DVD you get. Also, if you look on the main ToMI store page, the Deluxe Edition is listed as $50, so anybody who bought the season is getting their $35 subtracted out.

I R SO CANFUSED You have not payed for your dvd yet. The DVD is free (after paying the cost of shipping, which has only been payable since midnight i believe). Therefore, the deluxe edition will not offer a further discount.
I have a question with regards to the free shipping: Does it apply to the UK?

My question in regards to the DVD is quite simply this: Will it be using the same DRM/Copy Protection system similar to Sam & Max Seasons 1 & 2 and Strong Bad (just a disc check) or will it be using the system implemented on the Wallace & Gromit DVD (online activation)?

I believe so. You are entitled to the disk for free (plus shipping), annd this is merely you choosing which version do you want. The standard (with your pre-order cover), or the standard (with the pre-order cover, if you didn't pre-order anyway) with some extras.

Okay, here's my question. Like MI said, presumably any preorder type (like him and I) can just upgrade their order and get the deluxe stuff added on to the regular DVD with slipcase we already get. My question is if we supplement this with, say, the The Devil's Playhouse and another Telltale Heart wristband, does that remove the shipping cost for our preordered ToMI DVD?

I still haven't ordered because I'm staring angrily at the $0.10 until I qualify for free shipping.
On one hand, buying another thing puts me at more than I wanted to spend. On the other, I can get a thing and not pay the shipping charge, effectively making whatever I purchase about $6 less expensive. On the other hand, I don't WANT anything else, so it feels wasteful to just toss a(third!) Sam and Max Season Two Case File on there for the sake of cost.
Grr. Frustrating.

I put the new Sam and Max in my cart and it said I was 15.05 left to get free shipping, and then I added the 14.95 deluxe DVD and it said eligible for free shipping. So, couple of questions...
Has the game been touched-up? There's little things like the end of Spinner Cay having dimmer stars than the opening of Leviathan's (the scene with the manatee), or some low-res clouds occasionally for what I assume is MB-related reasons.
Also, is it just me or have the character models been given a minor upgrade? Or is that just for the cover? (Morgan having shadows, Elaine looking younger, etc).

Somebody posted this on Facebook. I thought it was relevant:
"I have to note I now kinda regret pre-ordering the game.
If I order the regular DVD of the game, I have to pay $18 shipping, meaning a total of $53 for the game (paid $35 to pre-order the game).
However, now it seems I could have just waited until now to order the game+deluxe DVD for a total of $50 and get FREE SHIPPING.
Which means, had I not pre-ordered the game in the first place, I would have gotten a better value for my money."
I also must wonder; why is the Purcell cover suddenly available to all (you need to go for Deluxe, but still) ? Wasn't that one of the reasons to pre-order in the first place??

That's kind of a good point. I mean, you do get the DVD + extra stuff for cheaper, and still get the slipcase. And if you're like my husband and don't play games until the DVD version is available... you didn't even get to enjoy the games in-between.
There were other benefits though, a free episode & access to the extra forum. Although I can see how you might not care about either.
But see it that way: recently the first season of Sam & Max was on sale for 5 bucks. Much cheaper than people who bought it when it was first released, right?
I'll give you that it's a bit different since the DVD itself is still new. But I think telltale assumes most people will play the download games before the DVD comes out.

I also see your point. It was the same with SBCGFAP. In both cases (S&M and SBCGFAP), I felt that had I waited, I'd have gotten a much better deal money-wise. BUT, would I really have wanted to wait and wait and wait until MAYBE eventually it would sell for a low low price..?
I suppose I don't need to answer that. :P
Nice to be able to see all sides in arguments.
Still, and I don't want to be childish and scream "Why can't I be the only one with the cool toy??!!!" here, but I wonder about the change of heart concerning the slipcover?
Ok.
It's an awesome slipcover.
It should have been the ONLY cover all along.

I always thought the Purcell cover as a pre-order bonus felt more like taking away than adding anything(both Sam and Max seasons had Purcell-drawn DVD covers for everybody), so having the cover get a more general release feels more like a correction of an overall plainly bad idea.
Scrawffler
03/12/2010, 12:08 am
It does seem fairer when you put it that way, RD. The Sam and Max Purcell covers weren't just for pre-orderers. (I should know - I only bought them last year!) And those of us who did pre-order did still get other benefits, as mentioned already.
And it's not like they're as easy for non pre-orderers to get hold of. They can only get them with the deluxe version, so if they're not interested in/can't afford the extra goodies then they can't just get the DVD with the slipcover like the pre-orderers can.
That said, even though I pre-ordered I'm getting the deluxe version anyway. Because of the cool extra stuff :D But back during pre-release time I made use of the private forums and everything so I'm glad I pre-ordered!

According to the front page on the Telltale site, you have 17 days before the offer ends. Hope that helps.

So, how many pieces are in the TMI Art Portfolio? The description says 12, the details say 16...
Oh, and what's to expect from the "Highlight Reel with Team Commentary" on the DVD? Is it the same as the audio-commentaries for S&M? One for each episode? about 30 minutes per Episodes? WITH DOM??
What does the normal slipcase cover art look? I did pre-order, so I will be getting the Purcell one, but I sure hope that the normal box art is underneath the Purcell slipcase. ( It probably isnt, or is it? )

We did about 20-30 minutes of commentary per episode. I apologize in advance for my absurd overuse and misuse of the word "trope" in the episode 3 commentary track.
This is the first commentary track I've ever been asked to do and it was the most fun I've had at work in god knows how long. I think you guys will be really pleased with the content. Daniel H-Bomb Herrera and Jake Video Games Rodkin (along with the rest of us) are at our finest.

Um ... wish granted? The Purcell cover is a slipcase that fits over the standard cover. :)
I'd have liked to have seen an original Ryan Jones painting commissioned for the default cover, personally. This looks more like a sophisticated render. But hey, that's a tiny splash of negative in an ocean of positive!

I suppose the sum of (34,95?) season pre-ordering way back doesnt count in this 50 dollar free shipping offer? Cuz if it did, we could add the deluxe stuff plus something worth a dollar or so to go over that 50 dollars to get all that for free shipping?

For the Sam & Max games I believe they had regular US Post ground shipping, and that came to something like $7. Forcing us to pay $18 for a "free" copy of something we've already purchased is not cool. I live in Canada and don't see why I should have to pay such an exorbant shipping price, especially when we got by perfectly well without it twice before.
I've always been under the impression that TellTale was on the gamer's side - near as I can tell, this increase in shipping is a scam - shall we say "incentive" - to get us to pony up for $50 worth of swag. If that's the case, it will greatly diminish my respect for the company. At the moment, I can't see why that's NOT the case.
Telltale, legitimately upset customers here, can we get a response please?

Well, I think it's a bit silly that the "limited edition pre-order cover" can be bought with the special goodies version. I do agree that it probably should have been the normal version anyway, but then what was the point of pre-ordering if everyone else can get ahold of the bonuses anyway? Especially as I had to order that special goodies version ontop of my pre-order DVD to get the rest of the stuff. (at least with free shipping, thanks TT!)
I guess they regreted making the cover a pre-order bonus, and I'm not particularly bothered by it. But I do hope the Sam & Max bonuses stay as pre-order bonuses.

Ok, I'm officially baffled.
I pre-ordered Tales of Monkey Island. On the merchandise page it tells me I have a choice of one of two DVD purchase options:
Either the DVD on its own (with Steve Purcell slipcase), for free.
OR
The deluxe Edition for $14.95.
It says I can have either one or the other of the options...
...so how come I can add both versions to my basket?
Does this mean I get two copies of the game..? One on its own and one with the deluxe Edition, and only pay $14.95..?

Ah, I see what you’re saying now. Since you preordered the season, the DVD is free. They, however, do not add the cost of shipping until you are about to enter your credit information. So in other words, the regular DVD will only be the cost of shipping and the deluxe is the cost of shipping in addition to the 14.95. It's really a matter if you want just the DVD with the slipcover or that along with the merchandise. The cost of shipping depends on where you live.

Thank you for your support, I'm taking in what you're telling me but I'm still not entirely clear on this matter. Perhaps it's just me being thick, or perhaps the sites info is misleading me in some way.
I have proceeded all the way to the checkout now and am on the verge of clicking 'submit order'. My shopping basket is exactly as follows:
Tales of Monkey Island Voodoo Card Set
$19.95
Tales of Monkey Island Deluxe Edition
$14.95
Tales of Monkey Island DVD with Steve Purcell slipcase
$0.00
Tales of Monkey Island Art Portfolio
$24.95
Grand total: $59.85
So as you see from the above I have successfully qualified for free shipping (because I'm spending over $50 in one transaction), and I have two versions of the TOMI DVD in my cart, one of which is marked at $0.00. So unless I'm missing something here, what my cart content and grand total is telling me is that I'm going to receive my Voodoo card Set and Art Portfolio, along with two copies of the game, one of which I'm not paying for.
I hope this is clear, I'm been pondering it for a while myself... From where I'm sitting now however I see no reason not to proceed with my order. I'm perfectly happy to receive two copies of the game if I'm only paying for one.

Ordered my deluxe edition + tarot cards :) I almost grabbed something else to try for free shipping (seriously, shipping is getting crazy these days.. I think I am spoiled by Amazon Super-Saver Shipping :P) but I wasn't sure if the Tarot Cards would have counted since they are listed under Prints.
I almost got the mug but it actually sounded *too* nice :) I would have been afraid to use it for fear of breaking it.
I`m sure it cant be like this, but I tried ordering for example 3 deluxe editions and 7 regular dvd boxes and one wristband, and the grand total is $49.85. (shipping is free as its almost $50)
I havent completed it yet, but would I actually really get 10 copies of the game this way?
And if not, is it even possible to get two copies of it by buying the regular dvd box and the deluxe edition?

Okay, now I understand everything fully. If you pre-ordered the season, you get the DVD for free plus the cost of shipping. You obviously have done that. If you spend over 50, the shipping is free just as you said. Therefore, the DVD is free with no shipping charges and everything else is just the price with no shipping charge. However, if you plug in the order you have now, you will indeed get two DVDs, one standard and one with all the merchandise. It really doesn't matter in terms of money though since one of those DVDs will be free anyway since you did the pre-order and spent over 50. Up to you.

I only came in here to browse, and maybe buy the mug (seriously, that is one BIG mug. So big, in fact, that I can truthfully say "that's the SECOND biggest mug I've ever owned", so its already paid for itself as far as I'm concerned).
Somehow, I now have an invoice of swag so long, that the only thing preventing me from seeing TOMI everywhere I look come June is the lack of TOMI underwear (NOTE: TellTale, please do NOT put up MI underwear for sale - I have family to support).
Oh, and btw, I am upset enough about my exclusive pre-order slipcase-thing not being an exclusive pre-order at all, that I've decided not to pre-order Sam and Max Season 3.
Until next pay day.

Yeah, this is crazy! If people start ordering tens of copies of the standard dvd, and a bunch of deluxe editions along with them, theyre going to have hell of a work explaining and cancelling everyones orders.
Is there a rule, that you are not entitled to buy more standard dvd`s than one?
And for that matter, can you order more than one deluxe edition?
And, is it possible to order one standard dvd and one deluxe edition?
For example. The deluxe edition costs about $15, but the shipping is $35 to where I live, so lets say I order 4 deluxe editions it becomes cheaper than 2 shipping costs alone, if it was possible to order more than one of those.
To clarify this one to myself and to others, it seems that the shipping costs itself do not add to this $50 dollar free shipping offer. The $50 you have to spend will have to consist of the Store prices alone.

In the past, we haven't had a Deluxe edition at all, so there aren't really rules that I know for them. While I guess it's POSSIBLE that they wanted to allow people to turn around, pay $15, and get the Deluxe Edition if they decided they wanted it later, I'm certain they did not want for one person to be able to order multiple copies of both.
In short, you should only be able to get ONE Deluxe Edition at the $14.95 price tag. After that, they should be charging you for the whole season again. At the very MOST, we should only be able to get two DVDs, one Standard and one Deluxe. And I'm pretty sure we're only meant to get ONE, Standard OR Deluxe.

$18 for shipping is actually way too much. I buy from the states all the time and it's never that expensive for a dvd weight / size item. I'm feeling ripped of. I thought shipping would be in the $5-$10 range when preordering.
Not sure if I'll be ordering. I want a hardcopy of the game, but $18 extra is too much imho.

The DVD itself is the same, and the slipcover is the same.
The $15 covers:
- Exclusive Voodoo card, not found in the Voodoo Card Set (available separately)
- One of Reginald Van Winslow's favorite maps: The Gulf of Melange printed on cotton fabric
- Piratey Piece of Eight - metal collectible coin
- Coaster from the notorious Club 41
- Souvenir button from the Trial of the Century (2.25 inches diameter)
...and the Purcell cover if you don't qualify for it on the standard DVD.

Bonnie mentioned in this thread (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14917) that there were both price increases and the use of tracking numbers for international shipments recently. Tracking can really jack up the price of shipping.

Exciting! Sad I have to wait for payday next week, but then I'll be getting the Deluxe pre-order upgrade, Sam and Max season 3, and probably some merch (thinking about the cards and the mug), plus a Sam and Max season 2 DVD (I have the downloadable season already, but shipping here is expensive so was waiting until the TOMI DVD came out to get that too).
Also been eyeing up a Max crossbones tshirt.... hmm... it would be so easy to justify on the basis that if I ordered it later on, I'd be paying through my nose for shipping, so technically I'm saving money by getting it with all the rest.
damn shopping logic!

Woooow, I want to hug and kiss you guys for bringing to us this cool merch stuff! Awesome!! Too bad I misread the content description of the Deluxe pack (it includes one extra voodoo tarot card, not the full set). Too bad I'd already checked out when I noticed. :(
Du kannst doch den Telltale-Support anmailen, dann packen sie die Tarot-Karten sicherlich noch dazu... bzw. du bestellst die Tarot-Karten noch einzeln nach, und lässt den Support dann die Bestellungen zusammenfassen. Sollte kein Problem darstellen.

$18 for shipment to Israel?!
When I bought the entire season in June, I checked the price of shipment to Israel (put a DVD in the cart and gave the address) and it was more along the lines of $10.
Now, the whole free shipping with $50 purchase is not relevant either, because any package from abroad whose contents are worth above $50 is added a special tax, which will probably be along the lines of $10-$11 so it's not worth it.
I'm kinda saddened by the fact that I need to pay $18 for the shipment, with this amount I can buy an entire season of one of the other games (the ones on sale)...
I think I'll be holding this purchase for now, I need to rethink it.

For this one, yeah, as long as you're logged in and bought the season already, it'll adjust the price for you. Much nicer than the messy system of copying and pasting your order number (especially when there's a mistake with the number on your "My Games" page).

Personally I am happy the slipcover was offered in the Deluxe package. I missed out pre-ordering, mainly because I didn't realize I could even pre-order until too late. I still ended up ordering the game on launch day though, so I was disappointed that I basically missed out on that slipcover by one day :(

Sorry if this has been asked before, but if I order the special bonus edition (the 15$ one), does the "Tales of Monkey Island Collector's DVD which includes the full season game, plus bonus extras" include the "Highlight Reel with Team Commentary" from the "0$" edition?
So basically, is the 15$ edition the same as the 0$ edition + more extras?

we'll I ended up grabbing the deluxe edition since i was buying Sam & Max season 3 anyway, and it would cost me more not to buy the deluxe edition (with the free shipping offer. Shipping to uk was $17 up from $13 a few months ago.) so $17 shipping Versus $15 for silly extras. Silly extras win. Would have liked the tankard but didn't like the art work they stuck on it. Seemed a bit naff really.

I feel riped off by the shipping costs.
This was the first time I bought a Telltale game from the website, and It will probably be the last.
By pre-ordering I had two things in mind:
- Showing my (financial) support to Telltale, because they were reviving the series
- Telltale would not cheat on me, by charging too much for the shipping costs
As for the first one, I think the series would have benefited from a little more polish (the story was great, the puzzles where good, and it was a funny adventure, but technically it is mediocre). And considering that these games benefit greatly from little details, they could have made the best game in the series, instead of just a good game. I could bear with an episode every 2 months, if it helped, but... that's the way life is.
On the second, and as I said before, I feel ripped off. In all honesty, I'm better waiting for the next season on a bargain bin, or second hand purchase than giving this ammout of money for the shipping, wich I have yet to see if they are not increased by Duty taxes (how hard can it be to get a partnership to ship the games from inside the EU?).
I am a bit disapointed with all this, and I regret trusting Telltale on this one.

And Steam has no preorder bonuses, like the free episode of another series or access to the private forum or private sale events in the TTG store. Besides, Telltale loses a cut of the purchase price if you buy it anywhere else.

Hi,
I would like to point out to all of the people that preordered a few months ago and supported TTG throughout the release that we have to spend an extra $50 to get the free shipping, whereas if someone just purchased the DVD now, they will only have to spend $50 - $34.95 = $15.05 to get the free shipping.
I think TTG should adjust the free shipping price for the people that preordered to $15.05 so that it takes into account the $34.95 we paid before. (In which case I would definitely order the Deluxe edition and throw in something to get the free shipping)
Does anyone agree with me?

As Bonnie said (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=270554&postcount=12), the shipping costs are out of Telltale's hands. Their distributor sets the prices, and Telltale can't just walk away from the contract they have with them.

How much are TT charging you for delivery? I'm from the uk and they wanted $17 for shipping, so i added on the deluxe edition (plus i was buying sam & max season 3 anyway) thus reaching the required $50 (well 10 cents short, they let you off on that one)
Plus i really hope that i wont be slammed by customs when the game + xtras arrives. Does anyone know if UK customers already pay VAT on the games so we don't get done, or is it just luck if the stuff gets through?

I feel your pain but I disagree. You (and I) got a free episode, and got to play for the 8 months since it was released instead of having to wait. And offering free shipping for only 15 dollars of purchase would mean they'd basically be paying to send you stuff since they'd spend more on shipping it to you than they'd get from the sale.
When you buy something as it first comes out, or even preorder it, it always end up being more expensive than waiting 6 months to a year before getting it. It makes perfect sense.

Like the above poster said, mine definitely wasn't this high, plus I was buying Sam & Max S3 and the collector goodies anyway, which brought it up enough to qualify for the free shipping, I'd recommend you just do the same. (and yes, they let you off with 10 cents, which is very nice of them)

Wow, this thread took a very sudden turn from Telltale love to Telltale hate. Telltale has been absolutely awesome to us. They're a small company, yet they've managed to make an amazing game, offer some of the best support I've ever seen, made merchandise simply because their fanbase demanded it, taken the time to interact with all of us here, and given out free stuff left and right. And if they say that they're doing the best they can to reduce shipping costs (which they don't see a dime of), I trust that they are.
I ask all of you who are complaining about shipping costs, how many times have you gotten a free episode, a discount, or free shipping? I'm personally sitting on four free episodes and a 25% discount on two season upgrades. I'd say Telltale's been damn good to us, especially for such a small company.

A 50 dollars minimum makes sense as they would end up spending more on shipping than they'd earn in sales if there wasn't a minimum. And they announced enough new things that you can get S&M3+deluxe edition and get free shipping, or deluxe edition + a couple of new things (even if you have all the other, older stuff) and get free shipping.
I don't think it's fair to be upset with them. Be upset with the distributor. Be upset with the post office. But telltale are doing all they can on their end.

The Sam and Max Purcell covers weren't just for pre-orderers. (I should know - I only bought them last year!)
But they had never said, back then, that they would be. Which is the difference. With TOMI they specifically stated, in the beginning, that pre-orders would have an exclusive slipcase on top of the other advantages.
I know, you're gonna say it's just a slipcase, but why then say it would be exclusive when it won't be?
As for the crazy shipping costs, I won't get angry at Telltale Games for this, because while it probably wouldn't cost so much to send a DVD, you also need to account for the handling of the material, which is done by a third party, not Telltale Games themselves. And since Telltale Games offers us FREE shipping on orders over $50, it probably affects the S&H costs of the items under that order price.
Just because Telltale offers us free shipping, doesn't mean that they don't need to pay the S&H company - so the distributor is probably just charging more for the lower-cost orders in order to offset the 'free shipping' offer. The money has to come from somewhere, you know? And hey, if we didn't have the free shipment offer, it might lower the costs of S&H for the smaller orders, but it might influence us in buying LESS from Telltale because we'd need to pay for the shipping on top of the rest. And then Telltale would get less money, because the money they make comes from the games and merchandise.
Do I make sense...? :P

03/12/2010, 03:28 pm
Well, then they should be more careful when they choose their distributor. It's not a new problem. The same thing happened, when the S&M Season 1 DVD was released. Back then, international shipping was around USD16, and only after the customers complained about ist, it was reduced to 9.95. From then on shipping cost slowly went up again (10.95 for Season2 an Strong Bad, 16 (at least thats what other germans paid, my invoice said 11.23 for some reason, maybe I used a discount?) for Wallace & Gromit) und now 18 for TMI!
This means they had enough time to figure it out and make a better deal with the distributors.

This means they had enough time to figure it out and make a better deal with the distributors.
We can theorize all we want, but in the end, it all depends on legal work that we aren't privy to, and it's between TTG and their distributor. For all we know, they are just as annoyed as we are at the hike in S&H costs, but cannot do much, because they are bound by contract. Again, we can't know the specifics of the legal mumbo jumbo, but that's how I see it.
Of course, the promotion to get free shipping on orders of $50 or more is a good marketing tactic to influence us into buying more (because we get a better deal that way), but that's hardly new.
Besides, the reason why I'm inclined to throw so much money at them is just because their damned games are so fun. :P

We paid $34.95 already for the game - I think it should count towards the - buy $50 and get free ship, since people who are buying the game now will have their $34.95 included as part of the $50.
@avistew - when they release episodes by episode and get us to pay them a fee ahead of time, we are losing on the time value of money - 8 months worth and also they can estimate demand from the pre-orders (which has a nominal value). I believe that the perks we get from pre-ordering are just ways to entice people to pre-order. In regards to your comment about paying to send it to us, we paid $34.95 for it already which means that we do have a stake in part of the $50 already (just like the people who are buying it now).
In all fairness the pre-order(ers) bought the game too, we paid $34.95 for it and it should count towards the $50 free ship just like the people who are purchasing the game now.

It's a limited offer. In 18 days people who have preordered won't get free shipping even if they order over 50 dollars worth of stuff. The promo isn't linked to preordering at all.
You had the game for all that time. Just because you could save money now doesn't mean that have to make it cheaper for you. Preordering benefits are only meant to be benefits compared to people who buy the games after preorders are over. People who, just like us, have already bought the game now and don't have it counting towards the 50 dollars.
At any rate, it makes no sense to ask that only if you have preordered. People who bought the game between July, when it stopped being a preorder, and now, when there is the 50 dollars deal, are in exactly the same boat.
The only difference is I guess the Purcell slipcase, which I agree can make you feel like you've been cheated since now it's available to anyone. That's all. The rest is the same for anyone else, preorders or not.

I'm talking about the people who purchased the game, but haven't received the DVDs yet. Since the shipping is for the DVDs and not for the downloadable games, it should apply to when we get our DVDs, not when we get the game. Since the DVDs are coming out during the promotional time, we should be able to take advantage of the promotion. What I'm trying to say is that the promotion should be contingent upon when the physical DVD comes out and not when we download the game because the promotion on the shipping costs is tied to shipping the DVD and not the game.

I think the store considers a preorder as a backorder because there's no stock (yet). Once the DVDs arrive from the manufacturer they'll all go out in the order in which you placed the preorder. So your DVD will probably go out with the first batch if you ordered today.

All I want (and have been waiting for many months) is just the DVD and the slip cover that I have paid for way back last year in June. I was never told then that I had to pay the shipping for these. In fact I thought I don't even to have to order anything at all and they will just send me the items when they're ready. Imagine my surprise when I got the e-mail today.
I'm pretty sure that "plus the cost of shipping!" or "For just the cost of shipping!" was included in all promotional materials that mentioned the DVD.

Hi guys,
For people new to Telltale, it can be a pretty confusing process on how we do DVDs, episodic and such. Rest assured we try to be as clear as possible about the DVD being ready after the season is done, how you have to order it, etc, but sometimes that information doesn't penetrate to every fan. Bear with us, though, for this is the easiest way we can find to get the discs out there and on your shelves!

Really? I don't remember seeing a single announcement from Telltale that said the DVD would be shipped for free. Every single one said the DVD was free plus the cost of shipping.
If you can find where you saw that, please show me; I'd like to be proven wrong.
Read my post again, I never claimed that I was promised the DVD for free. In fact it's exactly the other way around, I'd like to be proven wrong that it was mentioned anywhere to me that I will have to pay for shipping for the DVD and the slip cover.
Here's the e-mail I got after I pre-ordered:
The stuff in your order includes:
• Tales of Monkey Island
Your Serial Number for Tales of Monkey Island:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
$34.95 has been collected from the payment method you selected. You can review your purchase history at any time by logging in to your My Telltale page. (To get to this page later, go to Telltale's website, click on "Settings" (the gear icon), and then "Past Purchases".)
Avast, ye scurvy sea-dogs and welcome to the motley crew of the good ship Pre-Order. I'll wager you've got booty on your mangy minds and we here at Telltale don't aim to disappoint you on that score. So lend me your pox-ridden ears and I'll tell you a tale of king's ransom in ill-begotten goods and services that be setting sail in your direction even as we speak!
1.) A Secret Forum! (Pirates Only): Trade bawdy tales of game-development mayhem with Telltale's nefarious crew! Abandon all hope, ye who ENTER HERE.
2.) A Free Game (Choose your Poison): Why ye would be wantin' to play a game without pirates, I surely cannot fathom, aside from the fact that it won't cost you a doubloon. Use the coupon code to get a free episode of your choice from the Telltale store:
Your Code:
XXXXXXXXXXXXX
3.) A Limited-Edition Slipcase (Where ye can dock yon DVD): Monkey Island's original cover artist, "Salty Steve" Purcell is toiling away in the the brig on this one, so you'll have to wait until the end of the season before claiming your prize!

I will read this thread properly tomorrow when I am less drunk, but I am reaally quite pissed off about the price of postage. i couldn;t give a shit that if i spend $50 I can get free shipping. For those of us who paid for the preorder I don;t see why the fuck we should have to pay again for something that we pretty much already own. What a waste of money, the telltalegames games were rushed, buggy and generally not that brilliant anyway. What a piece of crap

Thanks. Well I'm the fool then for not reading the tiny footnotes carefully.
*Season customers who order after July 7 will still be eligible for the DVD, but only pre-order customers will receive the limited edition cover. Shipping will be charged when you come back to order the Collector's DVD.
Wait a minute.... does it actually say there that the slip cover is exclusive to people who pre-ordered?

I'm sorry you feel that way and I assure you we are distraught by it as well, even working late to try some extra bug fixes and see if there's an error in our system that results in higher shipping prices. Though there's clearly been no visible indication of our efforts thus far, it has been a problem we have been chipping away at over the months. Note that the disc isn't going out of stock anytime soon, if you'd like to wait until we find a more palatable solution to this problem. Until then, free shipping for buying Merch really isn't a bad deal- the voodoo cards alone are an amazing find and the deluxe DVD pack is something I'll get for myself when they come in stock.

Either that's a nice ninja way of saying something completely different, or it was some unfortunate implication.

Hahaha, it means there's pieces of information that can be easily skipped over no matter how many times they're displayed, it happens to all of us. Maybe it was clarified in a blog post but not in the product description, but this particular fan didn't see the blog post and was in the dark. That's why we're here, in support, etc. There are certain things that you can message every which way that still might not reach the people they need to reach. It's not an implication, that would be hypocritical because I am a victim of that stuff all the time.

To be fair, though, you guys made a superb effort at it. I've had "plus the cost of shipping" drilled into my head from every direction for the past eight months, and the example above is absolutely the most subtle of all the times I've seen it.

Well, with an unfortunate implication I don't mean an actual implication, more like, you mean something but others might read it in a different way.

But sometimes we mess up! It may seem like a pretty nasty surprise to those people and for that we apologize, but rest assured it was never meant as any sort of trickery- we like to cover our bases and keep people informed. It's a hard job sometimes, I guess that's why there's so many of us doing it!

Ok, so I am an ungrateful cunt, fair enough, but
I have to pay...$16 again for a game that I already own, that was pretty average anyway. we get some cunting art work and wallpaper which presumably is predominantly viewable on the forums, Majus' amazing but available on Youtube animations
Brill, and a demo/advert for another sam and max game.
Can i trade in all the unused free games etc we were offered from the treasure hunt and pre order, to get free postage?
The small print was on the website, but not in the confirmation email, and is damn cheeky anyway, surely it doesnt cost £10 to ship a dvd
And yes the small print does claim that only preorders will have the ltd edition cover
'but only pre-order customers will receive the limited edition cover'
which is on the website but omitted from the order confirmation email.
The same smallprint also mentions the dvd shipping cost
'shipping will be charged when you come back to order the Collector's DVD.'
which is also omitted from the confirmation email
Sober up stop ranting, it will still be shit (and moderated) in the morning

I can understand where you guys are coming from, I just find it hard to imagine (though entirely plausible) that you missed every mention of the shipping charge. Like I said, most mentions of it were much less subtle than that asterisk in the link posted above. I just think Telltale has done a lot of awesome things for us, so I'm a bit hurt to see all this anger directed at them for something that's out of their control.

... Then don't order the DVD?
You can get it whenever you want for free (plus shipping). Feel free to wait until there is something else you want to order and get them together to pay less in shipping. As you said, you already own the game. You can even decide never to get the DVD if you prefer.
About information not getting to people, tell me about it. The other day I was talking about a book with a friend who had read it. He thought one of the main character, a male, was female. And the book was in French, which means that every adjective was masculine. Every "he", "him", every adjective, he just skipped and missed while reading the book. I don't get how he did it.

i'm stunned by the ranting going on. I've known since my first TT purchase that shipping was extra, and that was with Sam and Max season 1. Plus £10 to ship a tracked item is very reasonable. Tracked sometimes means that the item will be delivered quicker too. I'd really like the p&p charge to drop, who wouldn't? But nor do i want to see TT bleed money on paying for peoples postage when they could use it to develop these games. If i was to put a figure on P&P, i would say that ideally there should be a $10 charge for a maximum of 3 dvd's sent in one package, and a cut off point of around $19 for merchandise shipping (given it weighs more.).
As a final option, would Tell Tale ever consider making any purchase worth more than $50 eligible for free delivery a permanent thing? It would essentially be mostly used around a time such as this but it would be a nice thing to have. Then, hopefully, as TT grows it can steadily bring that price down, much like amazon did with their free postage in the uk (first orders £15 and up got free delivery, then £10, £5, finally any purchase from amazon eligible regardless of cost.).
just my 2 cents.

Yeah, the level of vitrol in this thread (and the others about the postage and free shipping offer) is absolutely stunning.
For those of you who may be new around here, Telltale is not trying to rip you off, or cheat you, or spread vicious rumors about your loved ones. They like you and want to make you happy. They are a business, and they have to pay their bills, but they also try to do the right thing.
Well, you can take comfort in the fact that a good bunch of us love you guys!

Wait, were we able to pay the DVD shipping back when the Season was first up for preorder? Because I can't remember if I paid that or not.
If we could, then I probably did. In which case, can I upgrade that to the Deluxe, without, you know, ordering it as a second disc?
And if we couldn't, then nevermind that last paragraph I guess.
GuruGuru214
03/12/2010, 09:04 pm
Nope, we couldn't. If you haven't ordered in the last two days, you haven't ordered.
Hi,
I would like to point out to all of the people that preordered a few months ago and supported TTG throughout the release that we have to spend an extra $50 to get the free shipping, whereas if someone just purchased the DVD now, they will only have to spend $50 - $34.95 = $15.05 to get the free shipping.
I think TTG should adjust the free shipping price for the people that preordered to $15.05 so that it takes into account the $34.95 we paid before. (In which case I would definitely order the Deluxe edition and throw in something to get the free shipping)
Does anyone agree with me?
Yeah. This one would be the right thing to do. It would be great if they counted the $34.95 we spent while pre-ordering to this $50 offer. In this case I would definitely order the deluxe edition also.
Now the deluxe edition would cost me 14.95 plus the shipping $35, so deluxe edition would cost me $50.
Plus i really hope that i wont be slammed by customs when the game + xtras arrives. Does anyone know if UK customers already pay VAT on the games so we don't get done, or is it just luck if the stuff gets through?
For customs you only consider the price of the goods (i.e. without shipping costs) to decide whether to tax them (custom is usually a doozy at 3% or so, but the 20% import VAT is killing me), and at least for Austria the exemption amount is 22 EUR.
So with 1 USD listed on the invoice (that's what they did for Wallace & Gromit, and I'm pretty sure they won't list S & M season three on there since it's not in the package) you should be fine, unless Europe's economy pulls a titanic and drops the price of 1 EUR below 0.05 USD... :D

Haven't ordered yet, but I will tonight. I'm going to order the deluxe version, art portfolio, and two sets of cards. One for me and one for my sister. I thought I heard rumors about free shipping then?
Asya86
03/13/2010, 04:27 am
Yes but the art portfolio counts as a prints which is not included in the free shipping offer.
I ordered the Deluxe TMI edition plus pre-ordered the new Sam and Max (and the Sam & Max season 1 DVD which was free since I'm eligible) to come up to 49.90$ which was enough for the free shipping.
jadetermeg

I thought so, but deluxe + two card sets, should be shipped for free I assume.
I suppose I'll find out when I order.

I forgot about custom tax to uk on postage from america last time i had to pay an extra £11 to get poster and bages
I've never understood what the rules are, outside the fact that some parcels get opened and checked, and some don't. But I'm surprised that buying yourself a poster and a few poxy badges attracts import duty.

The perks have value, too. The free episode alone was worth $8.95.
Rubbish. I didn't pay for the perks, I paid for the game. I have no need for a free episode. You can't just add the free stuff I didn't ask for.
I won't be paying $18 for the disk, and I will certainly not preorder anything from telltale in the future. In fact, good chance that Tales is the first and last game I buy of them.
Hell, I payed $35 for stuff like bioshock 2 and dragon age, and that includes shipping!

At the very leat they should have indicated the cost (or a reasonable estimate) when preordering. This is false advertising.
