One thing to consider is that Monkey Island had four games prior to Tales, most of which came out prior to the internet. Thus, the MI community had been spread out, and relatively isolated until TTG announced Tales, so there was alot of old stuff to discuss at the beginning.

Also, I'd argue that there are far more worthwhile threads in the old Sam and Max boards than there are in the new Tales boards.

I'd say they are about the same, but Sam&Max has had two years for the dust to settle since season two, so all the worst threads have settled at the bottom of the metaphoric tank, leaving only the most recent, and those with discussion points.
