Not sure why I'm not wowed by this. I love retro games, and retro games of that era and platform. I also love New York City.
...
It's probably the music.

I saw this last week via Kotaku, but it's just as awesome then as it is now.

Haha, that's fantastic!! Awesome vid.
That reminds me of something that's been puzzling me for a couple of years now: what's with the space invaders taking over the cities?
I first saw one in Paris, and recently noticed one turn up in London. I'm sure I've seen one somewhere else in the world too... think it was Quito, but don't have a pic.
Does anyone know anything about them?
In Paris:
1331
In London:
1332

Well, they got past our defenses of....um, green blocks in space and three spaceships. Earth's cities were the next logical step.

From what I understand it started from one guy doing artistic vandalism and it caught on elsewhere.

They both look like different designs to me, I doubt they're related. I could be wrong, though.

By caught on, I mean others thought it was a cool idea and started doing it as well. I guess certain people have certain styles.

People walk past them like THEY'RE NOT EVEN THERE... were the 80s really so long ago? Has everyone forgotten the danger? The battles that were fought? The legions of brave soldiers zapping away precious moments of their lives in the struggle to keep Earth free of alien invaders??

I think it's too much of a coincidence for them to be unrelated, although they were probably done by different people.

That would make sense. I like this kind of thing, it makes the world a more interesting place. :)
I'd be SO happy to see one of the little green one-eyed aliens from Commander Keen:

By the way - there's a high-def version of this great video up on DailyMotion (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xcv6dv_pixels-by-patrick-jean_music)... :D
Also, it's the neatest display of urban destruction since this (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=30244) - though it sure doesn't beat the 179kB size of "Debris"... :)
np: Autechre - os veix3 (Oversteps)

Didn't like the music but the video was awesome.

Mute it and play Rush's "Malignant Narcissism (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeUWJbs9Q5E)" over the top instead. That's what I did :).

This is the way the world ends: not with a BLEEP but a BLOOP.

That was amazing! Would be frightened a bit to see Space Invaders....but never the less this is just spectacular!
