View Full Version : The "whatever's on your mind" thread

One of the things that's great about this forum is its randomness. Well, this is the epitome of it: a thread for whatever random thought happens to be passing through your mind.
For example, I've just been struck by the most random craving for Taco Bell nachos.

I've been wondering what the difference is between "a massive crush" and being in love.

Avistew

Creepiness?
So, reciprocity? :p
I asked Giant Tope on Messenger and we reached the conclusion that a crush is more physical/hormonal/irrational and being in love is more emotional/based on actually knowing the person. But if you have another definition that works too.
Sometimes when people say "oh, it was just a crush", it kinda sounds to me like they're saying "it didn't result in a relationship". But I don't think feelings are any less valid because nothing happens. So I don't really think the difference lies in reciprocity or feasibility or something.
Also I'm not sure if a crush is something that should be brushed off. Obviously it meant a lot to you at the time, how would it have felt seeing your future self dismissing your feelings like that?
As usual, I'm probably over-thinking it all.

I have been waking up with a desire of cookies already which i will now go hunting and as the weather is fine, i'm looking forward for some climbing today.
GuruGuru214
05/22/2010, 01:05 am
I think you and Tope pretty much have it down, although I think that some degree of reciprocity is necessary for you to get close enough to the person to fall in love, at least on a friendship level, though I'm also sure that there are cases that are exceptions.
Something else going through my mind: How the hell did I pull this off?

Something going though my mind: I should replay the N64 Zelda games. Actually I think I never even finished Majora's mask.
GuruGuru214
05/22/2010, 01:16 am
I just pushed my friend through Majora's Mask. He's the one who started the whole game catalog/completion list thing with my friends, and it was on his list, so I motivated him to finish it and basically played human walkthrough.
I need to finish the Zelda series period. I've beaten every game at least twice (usually much more) except two of them: I've only finished Four Swords once (since I only have one friend who also has it, and I don't see him often), and I've never beaten Zelda II on the NES.
Something else going through my mind: a massive headache because I didn't get enough sleep last night or drink enough water today.

I'm thinking I miss France, or rather my friends in France. And that it would be really cool if my apartment's door could open as any door I wanted, so I could have any neighbourhood I'm in the mood for any time I go out.
GuruGuru214
05/22/2010, 01:39 am
I have a similar sort of thought all the time, except with me it's pocket dimensions. I think it'd be awesome to have the ability to open a portal to a pocket dimension. There's the most obvious application of actually opening a portal in the pocket of your pants for infinitely deep pockets, or in a doorway for infinite closet space. Or, if it worked a certain way, you could even open one entrance to it somewhere and another entrance to it somewhere else and effectively have teleportation powers.
Yes, I've wasted entirely too much thought on this.
Avistew
05/22/2010, 01:51 am
Well I guess in my idea the whole apartment would be what's in the pocket dimension, in a way. Although my idea was fairly limited (but I like powers that have specific restrictions, they seem more interesting to me), in that the front door could be opened as any door that I actually knew was there.
Doesn't mean I necessarily needed to have been there, I could also check google maps or something I guess.
Also, the view from the windows could be a view from an actual window, but it did become that view, so if something was build in front or if people were being noisy in the street or something, I'd get the consequences. And it couldn't be the view from a place that wasn't a window.
But people in the street if there was one couldn't see me unless I actually bent over and out of the window. Similarly, people couldn't see inside the apartment when I opened a door, they'd see what's actually on the other side of that door like I came out of it. And I couldn't open it if there was already someone in the doorway, too close to the door or if the door was open.
Opening absolutely any door, and not necessarily the same one I came through, could lead back into my apartment if I wanted to. Had to figure it out while opening the door, though. See, the way it went is that the people on the side that became my apartment would see the door as still closed, while the people on the other side would see it open and me getting inside, then closing the door behind me.
I'd also have the option of going through a window if I wanted, I guess, never really thought about that. I guess I'd have to open the window myself, and then the view would change for anyone inside my apartment.
Mmh... That's pretty much all I can think of about it right now. Obviously I've given it a lot of thought, too :p

Another thought, not new either: I really think we'd benefit from having a chatroom somewhere. I mean in a way a lot of things would be lost while what we say right now can be read in a while. On the other hand, having a discussion on a forum isn't ideal. There is a lot of everyday stuff we end up not sharing I'm sure. We'd get to know each other better in a chatroom.

So this section of Ocarina of Time always goes like this for me: Beat the Water Temple > Get the Fire Arrows > Go to Kakariko for the Nocturne of Shadow. Since you have to get the Fire Arrows as the sun rises over Lake Hylia, it's always day when I see the Nocturne of Shadow cutscene. Well, this time I did something differently.
It's so much better at night.

IRC is nice for that, we could try it out. Another forum I frequent has an unofficial IRC channel too, it really adds to the community.
I've set one up on CentralChat, to try it out. The channel is #telltale.
If you don't have any experience with IRC and/or don't have an IRC client, you can click here (http://centralchat.net/chat) for a web-based IRC client. Just enter a nickname (your forum nickname, preferably), and '#telltale' in the 'Channels' field, without the quotes.
This should be fun :)

I've been thinking about all the people who post freaking essays to this forum. I mean, how do they do it? As hard as I ever try, I can only ever accomplish a couple of lines! I mean, I reckon you could just say random stuff in the middle of one of those posts and as long as the beginning and end made sense half the people wouldn't even notice. Hell, you could just say "anyone who agrees with this is a complete moron" and if you had an extremely believable or convincing opening statement, people would just agree with you, and then you can laugh at them and just wait until they realise their mistake. Also, right now my brother's kicking a football around the house, but that has nothing to do with this post, but no doubt hardly anyone will read this far, further backing up the point I made that no one will read, further backing up that point, etc. Actually, now that's got me thinking about paradoxes. Let's see, Wikipedia defines a paradox as "a statement or group of statements that leads to a contradiction or a situation which defies intuition." That's interesting. I think paradoxes need to be integrated into society much more than they are now, as I think right now they are a minority that has to compete with the likes of oxymorons, fourth wall breakages, and a picture of a TV of a TV of a TV of a TV of a TV of a TV of a TV of a TV of a TV... Or would that be defined as a paradox? Anyone who agrees or quotes this post is an utter moron, by the way. So, that's it, there are my thoughts about people who post "essays" on this forum. I hope you enjoyed it, even though you probably didn't read the whole thing. I seriously hope someone agrees or quotes this so they look like an idiot, and i think i will leave you now with a little poem: essay, essay, on the forum, your shining light keeps me a war-um (warm, but it had to rhyme) by this way, I hope people don't think of this as spamming the thread with a massive post just for the hell of tit, I’ve actually had this entire thing on my mind for a few days now, and I’ve finally found a spot to express it, albeit in a very round-a-bout and nonsensical way. I wish I could fix up all the capital letters that I didn't make capital though. But you don't care, because you didn't read this, did you? Right? Right. And anyway, I did fix it, but no one will notice anyway! So, now I guess I’ll just say something to make this look completely legit to anyone (everyone) who skips from start to end. And that's why I’ve been thinking of essays on the forums, i mean, how do these people have the time to post these? With all the hustle and bustle in today's world, you'd think posts would just get shorter and shorter... Do you agree? Share your thoughts and maybe quote this, just to show everyone exactly how you feel.

I think it's a matter of temperature and possibly ingredients. If I'm not mistaken caramel is either just sugar or sugar+butter, and can be super hard. Fudge and toffee have to be softer, and I think toffee is coffee flavoured and fudge is flavoured (chocolate, coffee, maple syrup) as well.

My cat acts like she's possessed. At least once a day when I walk past her, she'll latch onto my arm or leg and try to tear it to peices. I think it's her way of communicating that she wants something. I guess the good thing about it is that I'm now very used to scratches and cuts. I still love her though. She's too cute not to love and forgive!
And incase anyones wondering, I never provoke her (at least as far as I'm aware), and I'll never hurt her in return (although if she's really going mad I'll put her in the garden so she can burn the energy chasing things).

It just sounds to me like she's just restless though. How long do you (or someone else) play with her daily? Maybe she needs to play more.
You should probably teach her you're not a toy though, try holding her by the skin of the neck and blowing in her face, then putting her down and giving her a toy or something, maybe that would help.
Other than that, I don't think I can help you, sorry!

We usually get tired out before the cat does. She can go on for hours and hours chasing a bit of string. That's why I'm so glad we have a nice big garden next to the woods. Lots of things to hunt.
It's being going on for four years now (the amount of time we've had her) and I'm so used to it that I no longer mind. We will spray her with water though if she claws the furniture. I heal, furniture doesn't.

But I had heard good things about this game so I stuck it into my rental list a while ago and now I've got it. I even think I may actually complete it, at least once anyway.

Which version are you playing - SNES, PSX, or DS? And just so you know, only completing the game once kinda diminishes its purpose. The game was designed with multiple playthroughs in mind; there are a lot of different endings to find once you've completed the game at least once.

I knew he was Vash the Stampede, but I'd forgotten that he also did Ichigo. Yep, he was the second black ranger. You know, once they realized they couldn't get away with having a black guy as the black ranger and an Asian girl as the yellow ranger so they reversed it.

GuruGuru214
05/26/2010, 10:05 pm
I remember way more about Power Rangers than I should, considering that I haven't started re-watching it yet. It went something like this:
Red - Jason
Blue - Billy
Black - Zach
Yellow - Trini
Pink - Kimberly
Green - Tommy
Tommy - Green -> White
Red - Jason -> Rocky
Black - Zach -> Adam
Yellow - Trini -> Aisha
Pink - Kimberly -> Kat
And that's just the first series/first three seasons. The only changes for the next season were that Blue left, Red became Blue, White became Red, Black became Green, and Tanya replaced Aisha. Then Turbo started and Rocky left and got replaced as Blue by a 12 year old named Justin. Then halfway through Turbo they replaced everyone but Justin (with T.J., Carlos, Ashley, and Cassie). Then after that season everyone but Justin went into space and got new powers and the new red ranger, Andros, bumped T.J. down to blue. And after that, I stopped caring because Lost Galaxy was dumb.
Now why am I so bad at history?

What's buttercream? I'm sure I've never had that in a cake. Is that like the frosting they put everywhere in North America? I never by cakes here because they cover it with stuff. I want cake, not frosting! If I wanted frosting on my cake I'd say so!

Yes! Isn't it awful? I like cake by itself too, or with a slight something on it, but I don't think there is one place to buy a cake around me that doesn't have that frosting on it.
My mom used to make this really delicious hazelnut cake (that was amazing!) so I do like certain cake.

I think my favourite cake is apple cake. I love making it. It's very similar to a pound cake, but with (cubed) apples in it.
My second favourite would be chocolate cake with ground almonds instead of flour.
The only think I've ever liked on cake was marzipan, and even then, only for our special Christmas Tree cake (one of the 13 desserts. Yes, a French tradition is having 13 desserts for Christmas, and you're supposed to have a bit of each for good luck :p Best tradition ever). We'd make a chocolate cake (the one mentioned above) and cover it with green marzipan, except for the trunk of course.
Sometimes I'll be okay with a cake sauce, but usually only for mousse-style cakes, and pretty much only berry sauce.

I don't like dark chocolate (Ian loves it though. Has had up to 98% That thing is almost straight cocoa) but since I can't have milk that's pretty much all I have, that or semi-sweet (rice milk chocolate is rare for some reason, even though rice and chocolate go so well together! Almond or oat milk chocolate would be delicious too).
I'd make my own but I don't have cocoa butter so I make chocolate things instead (brownies, cakes, spreads...)
On bread, I like mixing cocoa powder with berry jam. I've mixed it with honey too, but prefer with jam, because it's less sweet (I like confipote-like jam. I don't know the word in English. Confiture means jam, compote means sauce (as in, apple sauce for instance) and confipote is in the middle).
I've only seen marzipan as big blocks or small figurines. I guess I'd call it a confection. And I think it's much too sweet to have on its own, personally.

Adolphe is a fairly common, if somewhat dated name. Existed long before Hitler. I guess it's good his name wasn't Jack or Bill if everyone with the same first name has to bear the consequences of what he did :p
But I guess I get your point, one of my brother's friends' name is Ossama, after 9/11 and stuff people always made the link, which would be pretty annoying. But Ossama's much rarer than Adolphe in Western countries.

Not going over your month's download limit in 20 days usually helps.

huh? you mean you havent posted much because you went over your limit, or what?
Hayden
05/30/2010, 12:13 am
Prettymuch. You have no idea how slowly it takes for some of the pages to load once you're over the limit, getting from thread to thread is gruelling. Also, it's hard to comment on the new MI screenshots and videos when they don't load :). Do you feel my pain? :D

Avistew isn't related to ether the video format nor stew. It's my name (Alice Vigeral-Stewart).
I'm not very good at the whole "anonymity" thing.

It's the Telltale forums, I think you're pretty safe.
But I guess knowing your whole name will allow people to report you for stalking more easily.

Basically, for one of them, I downloaded all of the Telltale Games again, Portal, and every episode of the Chasers (legally) season 2

Ah, Chaser's War on Everything was a great show! But I stopped watching after the sick kids skit, that's when they went just a little too far. Everything before that was gold! Even the 'Everyone's a Good Bloke After Death' song. That was offensive but undeniably hilarious :D (apart from maybe one or two lines).

Don't kill me, but I laughed at the Make A Realistic Wish Foundation. It seemed harmless to me.
Nurse: What wish do you have, Timmy?
Sick Kid: I want to meet Zac Effron
Nurse: Well, we can't do that, but, tell you what, how about we give you this nice stick instead?
The only bit of that skit I didn't like was "Why go to any trouble, when they're only going to die anyway?"
I wish that skit was on the DVD... the rest of season 3 was gold, you should watch it.

Totally agree that was just a horribly rude and offensive skit

The part that you quoted was the only part that I found slightly funny.

Yeah, that was the worst part of the whole thing.

Don't you mean "wasn't"?
Okay then, I might give it a go then, because I did enjoy season three up until previously-said-moment.

Yeah. I just hate to think what people actually experiencing serious illness, or their families, must have thought of the skit. I really don't think that the Chaser had to stoop so low. I know that it's called the Chaser's War on Everything, but there is a line eventually.
I still appreciate everything else that the Chaser did, though.

APEC, Or EPIC? That was one of the greatest moments in television history. If they didn't willingly exit the car, I think they could have gotten a lot further... but then they would've probably been arrested.

Eh? Chas Licciardello, Julian Morrow and 9 crew members WERE arrested over the APEC stunt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chaser_APEC_pranks#Breach_of_APEC_restricted_z one).
It was brilliant, one of the best things they ever did... I have so much love for The Chaser.

Oh yes, that's right. They were arrested. I think I meant to say 'thrown in prison'. Yeah, absolutely the best thing, it's what they'll be remembered for in years to come. I also really liked their musical parodies such as 'Stairway to Kevin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIgIwETTWZY)' and their fake commercials for fake products like 'The Complete Walks of John Howard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLh9QqAxq9s)'. Great stuff, I do miss it.

It's an Australian show. It was never broadcast anywhere else. The Highway and I have seen it because we, of course, are residents of the country. And I think that Puzzlebox has seen it because she lived here once... I think.

It's an Australian show. It was never broadcast anywhere else.
It has been broadcast in other countries, albeit with the Australia-specific content chopped out, and probably not in prime-time slots. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chaser%27s_War_on_Everything) lists a bunch of them, and I saw it a couple of times on TV here in the UK.
And I think that Puzzlebox has seen it because she lived here once... I think.
Only for most of my life. :p
Just out of interest, how did you like it?
I'm curious about this too, it's rare to find anyone outside of Australia who knows and/or cares about The Chaser.

Sadly, there is no one with my name except me. At least not any I can find on the internet. So I never use my full name, when I can help it, because it only goes to me and my immediate family. Pretty scary and awful actually. :(
I always try to login to those sites and change my info, to say I'm like 62 and live in Nevada or something.

But see it the other way: you're unique!
I'm almost 100% sure that the only two people with my last name are my husband and me. Nobody else. And that's awesome! We are our own microcosm. We're our own dynasty! Well, a dynasty of just two people, but still!
Even before I got married, my last name wasn't very common so I was probably the only person with that specific full name, although I might not have been. Still, in Paris, the only people with my last name were my parents, my brothers and me.

I have the most generic name I could think of. To me. And I hate it, because every time I mention my last name, my friends are like, "And that's your future career, isn't it?" and it gets so annoying!

Be mindful of your thoughts and feelings, they radiate to others, they affect others. Personal space, individuality, self absorption are all socially constructed terms, how you feel, how you act affects everyone you ever cross/ connect to. These terms are inward, false. We're connected.
How you feel and think affects others for a life time. We have to be open but mindful to those closest to us. We must even be aware how strangers vibrate in this universe.
We're all connected, what you say, how you act, how you feel, affects others, we must be aware, we can't be selfish, we can't be inward, we must be aware.
We are all received from the source with the power to change our reality as well as the reality of others. We are in constant motion but in-sync with others.
We are all part of the same vibrations and waves in the universe.
