I quite like the idea that the Kraken is so big that sailors mistake it for an island, so when they land on it they are taken and eaten.

I also think octopi in general are adorable things. And you're right, they are quite smart apparently!

The drink's ingredients contain kraken ink.

Along with tiger claws, manatee snot, ground phoenix beak, hair from the dog that bit you, T-rex feathers, dragon scales, megalodon skin, lochness monster spit and hair from Chuck Norris' beard.

They don't stay young forever. Don't buy a baby kraken as a pet.

I really did want an octopus as a pet, but after doing research I found that they only live for half a year. I really don't want to go through a broken heart every half a year so it's best I don't. Plus they require a lot of attention.

@Tor: The first one is tugging on my heart strings...

At this aquarium that I went to once, the docent told us that the octopodes would open up their aquariums and escape into other aquariums to eat the other fish. Even putting bolts on the aquariums wouldn't stop them (they could unbolt them) so they had to put padlocks on all the octopus enclosures to prevent them from escaping.

Nice pictures, the small kraken is cute and has some nice colours. I'm only counting seven arms.

*update*
I think i found the left arm. :O)

Yeah, I found it really surprising when I found out that they can be quite clever... freakishly intelligent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cephalopod_intelligence) even. I think it's surprising because we can't imagine something with no spine having any significant level of intelligence :p

It's been attacked maybe? I've heard it's common for wild specimens to be missing an arm or two. They're generally okay with it and can regenerate the missing arms. I guess it's a defense mechanism just like some lizards that can lose their tail when attacked and regenerate it later; "you chomp on that while I run away".

I read about that, I also read that if you get a little container and put some live food in it then the octopus will figure out how the container opens so that it can obtain the food. I'd love to see that in action!

I had a pet Octopus once. It nearly climbed out of the fish tank through a circular hole at the top. The fish tank had a rock with a hole and a Marmite container which it can "live" in. It seem to prefer the Marmite container. Then when you add those thawed shrimp in the fish tank, it comes out and grabs them.

Yeah, I guess that would be a little long to hold on to a picture of an octopus. :D
